1、Raised on the farm, Padma Suresh had a love for agriculture just like her father. Young Padma would spend most of her evening after school in the fields, learning the art of organic farming.
After moving to the city, she began missing the farm. Faced with the limited space, Padma felt the absence of fresh vegetables. Besides, she was disappointed with the taste and quality of shop-bought vegetables. Because chemicals used on vegetables were harmful to human health, she finally decided to take matters into her own hands and change her yard into a vegetable garden.
Now 48, Padma has devoted the past 12 years to developing a garden with 200 plants of 20 varieties of vegetables. She relies on natural fertilizers (肥料). Additionally, she uses creative organic farming methods like preparing liquid fertilizers from fish.
Her husband Suresh Ettan, who is now working in an oil and gas company, said, "As I don't eat meat, I have limited food choices in the city. Now every morning, my wife sends me a good breakfast. Apart from that, she also shares the photos of her day's harvest. I take pride in showing those photos to my colleagues."
For Padma, the garden has become a source of joy and also a link to her rural roots. Padma says she finds connection to her village through the traditional recipes and taste of homegrown vegetables. More importantly, by growing her own food, the gardener has not only found a way to provide a supply of organic vegetables to her family but also a way to earn some money. 6、Have you ever wondered what an American high school is really like?
A typical American high school has several large buildings and enough space for about 1,500 students. When students first arrive at school, they go straight to their lockers (寄存柜,有锁存物柜) to put away or get their textbooks and to hang up their outdoor clothes. As American textbooks are expensive, students would rather rent than buy them.
American students have different types of school transport. They usually take a yellow school bus or walk to school if they live close enough. When they turn 16 years of age, most take a free driving class at school for one term. If students earn passing grades in the class and also pass their state driver's exam, they can begin driving themselves to school.
They must take science, math, English and social studies. They can choose art, homemaking, fashion design and other classes. In some schools students are required to take one or more of the following special classes: health education, physical education or foreign language studies. Students move to different classrooms for each subject. This is because each teacher has their own classroom. There is a five-minute break between classes, to give the students the time to hurry to their next class.
The regular school day usually ends early in the afternoon. After school more than half of the students are involved in after-school activities. These activities include sports-especially football, basketball, baseball and soccer or clubs, such as yearbook, speech, school newspaper, photograph or student government.
A. Every student is given a locker.
B. Each day, students take six or seven classes.
C. Sometimes their parents drive them to school.
D. Students must pay back if they lost any of them.
E. Because each teacher has their own classroom.
F. In some schools students are required to take some special subjects.
G. This article will describe a typical American high school and its students.

7、I had just made a memorable speech, and I was about to learn how the judges decided my performance. The audience leaned forward and a period of silence fell across the room. I felt the drum rolled in my heart.
The third-place winner was announced. The name was not mine. Then the second-place winner, still not me. At last, the moment of truth came. I was about to either enjoy the warmth of victory or regret the months' preparation. My heart felt closer to the latter.
Losing is a part of life, and I have dealt with it on more than one occasion. However, it was an indescribable feeling to drive a 200-mile round trip, get up very early on a freezing Saturday morning, and yet still finish fourth out of four competitors in my group.
I had spent many hours in front of a computer and in libraries doing research for the Lincoln Bicentennial (200周年) Speech Contest. After not placing (获得名次) in the first year of the contest, I really wanted to compete again. Lincoln had many failures, but he never allowed them to defeat his spirit or ambition, so I was not going to give up on a second contest! I reworked my speech for the following year, but again I did not place.
I couldn't accept the fact that I failed twice in something that I had worked so hard on, until I thought about my hero. Never mind the lost prize money and praise—through learning stories about Lincoln, I discovered that I can fail successfully.

D、Learn to value memories in our life. -

"David, your operation wasn't easy at all. We thought we were going to lose you. For two weeks after your operation, many things could go wrong. You're really lucky. When you were in the coma (昏迷) , she used to come over to your bed and sing to you. She was watching over you." my dad said.

If You Have Time
