TikTok will soon be banned in the United States if its parent company ByteDance (refuse) to sell the platform, according to a bill (pass) by the White House on Saturday (April 13).

An earlier version of the new bill, which was attempting（give）the China-based company a six-month deadline to sell the app, was passed in the Senate (众议院) last month, even after both Democrats (民主党人) and Republicans (共和党人) voiced concerns over national security.

The revised bill has now been combined a larger package of international policies, including support for Israel and Ukraine, and is being presented to the Senate where it again waits for (approve).

Over the past month, ByteDance (push) back against the bill, and encouraged its 170 million U.S. users to contact the government and express protest to the ban.

"We will not stop fighting and advocating for you, with we together build this amazing platform," TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said in a video uploaded in March. "We will continue to do all we can, including using our legal rights, to protect this platform."

Once the bill passes successfully, it will extend the deadline for ByteDance to sell to nine months, with an (addition) three months available if a sale is progress.

Just as with face-to-face learning, mental energy matters: take time to reflect on whether you have understood the materials, try to remember and sort the information you have learned to aid memory, test your understanding, mix different concepts and skills into the same study session to build connections and fluency, ask questions, participate in class discussions, and try teaching concepts to others.

Ask for assistance! In an online learning environment, you may need to ask lots of questions and take ownership over shaping the learning experience so that it meets your needs.

Finally, if you're facing specific challenges such as illness, mental health, accessibility, balancing childcare responsibilities, etc., it's important for you to reach out to your instructors or the relevant student support services for discussion and creative problem-solving.

It is also likely to be a significant underestimate. A report in May 2022 by Carbon Market Watch (CMW), a climate watchdog (监督者), found that the official forecast failed to account accurately for the emissions generated from stadiums. FIFA, which insists its method is "best in practice", reckons that the majority of the emissions (52%) will come from fans and players travelling to Qatar, while less than 25% are from stadium construction. Though it amounts to less than 0.02% of the world's annual emissions, sports teams and organizations should have set a positive example in this.

To remove the doubt from outside, Qatar has established the Global Carbon Council (GCC), a dedicated environmental agency. Beyond adjusting for World Cup emissions, the GCC will promote a path to "a low-carbon future", a great step for a country with the world's highest emissions per person. Yet the agency is still at its early stage. Only six projects, saving less than 600,000 tons, have been approved so far.

Growing up, I was virtually never a big fan of novels. My classmates would be crazy about the latest Harry Potter book, while my copy sat collecting dust on a shelf. Instead, I would choose to read through the reference books related to my academic fields for better grades. After I started graduate school, extracurricular reading didn't appeal to me at all but I spent most of my time on campus digesting research papers and textbooks and my mind couldn't handle processing fact-filled nonfiction books at home, too. To help me stick with it, I made a New Year's resolution: I would read two fiction books per month for the entire year. The result was an almost instant appreciation of fiction, along with many unexpected results including ones that have benefited my schoolwork.

What surprised me the most was how much I learned. Some of the best books I read were historical fictional stories happening in a realistic historical setting. I learned about life in different countries, as well as struggles people there faced during difficult periods in their histories. The books have helped me build sympathy and understanding, with an unexpected benefit: I've started to think more deeply about the diversity of issues in the scientific community and could serve it, heart and soul.

"I'm Possible" lives up to its goal to make the Big Top experience accessible to audiences of all abilities with a 90-minute show featuring a gymnast who uses a wheelchair, an tennis player born without legs, and a deaf storyteller.

Habitats that are considered important to the White's Seahorse include natural habitats such as sponge gardens, seagrass meadows and soft corals. The main cause for the reduction in the population of White's Seahorse is the loss of natural habitats across their range in eastern Australia. The seahorses occur within coastal areas which are easily affected by human population pressure. With tourists and locals crowding into these coastal areas, the sea water quality is worsening and more sand is building up along the coast.

To increase its population, Australian scientists are working on an interesting project. The first part involved collecting six pairs of adult seahorses from the wild and putting them in tanks for breeding (繁育). In the wild they are known to live for up to six years and the breeding season is from September to around February. They display long-term devotion to their partners. Pairs of male and female White's Seahorses mate for life, and unlike most animals, the males are the ones that give birth. In this experiment, each male seahorse had between 50 and 150 babies. The second part of the project is to give the young seahorses ID tags (标签) and release them into special living environments in the wild. These "seahorse hotels" start as artificial homes. Then as algae (海藻) grow on them, they become natural ones for the seahorses.

The idea of seahorse hotels was inspired by thrown-away crab traps that had accidentally become habitats for other types of sea life, whose populations increased in them. Scientists can easily monitor the growing seahorse population with the ID tags. Seahorses use their tails to hold onto the frame of the hotel so they're not swept away by ocean's currents. Experiments of similar seahorse hotels are taking place in several other countries.
