Florence was born on May 12th, 1820 and her journey to greatness started. She was born into privilege. She was a polymath genius who spoke multiple languages and pioneered the concepts of statistical analysis that are still used today. She even memorized the works of philosophy and would often debate with her father.

She had the option of having a society life in a nice big house, with a staff of servants. However, she craved for something worth doing instead of frittering away time on useless trifles. She determined to end suffering in this world as a nurse, but both of her parents disagreed with that, for nursing was considered inferior at that time. Florence over the next 12-13 years tried convincing her parents over and over again, but they didn't budge.

When Florence turned 30, her dad was completely worn out from resisting and then sent her to Germany for nursing training. In 1853 her dream was completely realized and she undertook a job in London at a hospital. Florence didn't know at the time that she was going to be dragged into one of the bloodiest conflicts in European history — the Crimean War. Nightingale dedicated herself to improving healthcare during the Crimean War, which led to a huge reduction in the mortality (伤亡) rates.

It's difficult to overstate the contributions that Florence Nightingale made to medicine, including her work on sanitation and hygiene and on organizational structures, and especially to nursing. Her work as well as her lite represents the power of a single determined individual who is set on bringing a positive change to society. She pulled off the inevitable and became a legend and immortal in the pages of history.

Pappula, 13, said she discovered that a classmate had experienced cyberbullying（网络霸凌）, which was painful for her to learn about. "Even though I didn't experience it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy," Pappula said.

Then she developed a program that recognizes when digital and text-based messages include bullying language. The program takes a message, and then recognizes signs of bullying and gives a rating to the cyberbullying, the teen said. If the rating is high, she said, "the program can be used to carry out things like removing that message or reporting it."

Pappula first designed and tested the program for Discord, a popular community-based messaging platform (平台), and said she plans to develop it for even bigger platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

In addition to this program, the NBPC awarded Pappula for a three-minute animated video about Unity Day, which she created and shared on YouTube last October. Unity Day, according to the video, was started by the NBPC in 2011 to raise bullying awareness among school-age children. Schools encourage their students to wear orange on Unity Day, as it is "a color that is connected with safety," the website reads.

Pappula visited different websites to develop her animation skills several years ago. She spent more than a month creating her 2-D animated video using an animation software called Krita. The effort paid off, as nearly 6,000 people have already viewed the "Unity Day" video on YouTube. Along with being posted to the NBPC webpage, her animation was also shared by Cartoon Network. Moving forward, Pappula hopes to continue to work with the NBPC and to use her skills to lift those around her.

There was a woman who worked as a maid during the day and came home at night to live alone with her four-year-old son. When the master learned of the maid's condition, he made a room for her and the child, and said, "Bring your child to my house. You both eat and sleep for free." But the maid refused the offer.
