Natural disasters take many different forms and can happen without warning. Earthquakes, floods, volcanoes. droughts. typhoons, and hurricanes are all natural disasters.

The earthquake of 26 December 2004 resulted in one of the worst natural disasters in living memory. It was a massive (大规模的) underwater quake and occurred in the Indian Ocean. This caused a huge tsunami to cross the Indian Ocean. It destroyed coastlines and communities and brought death and destruction (破坏) to many people. The survivors needed fresh water, food and shelter as well as medical help. People from all over the world collect money to help them.

The surface of the Earth has not always looked as it does today; it is moving continuously although very slowly and has done so for billions of years. This is one cause of earthquakes, when one section of the Earth crashes with another. Scientists can predict (预测) where this might happen and the area between plates is called a fault line. However, earthquakes do not always happen on fault lines, which is why they are so dangerous and unpredictable.

All the disasters are very dangerous and continue to kill thousands of people each year. but they are nowhere near the most dangerous disaster to ever happen on earth. One type of event in the earth's history has regularly killed millions of beings: asteroid impacts (小行星撞击) . About once every million years the Earth is hit by a piece of rock and ice from space large enough to cause massive destruction (including earthquakes, volcanoes and ice ages) and sometimes to kill entire species. Sixty-five million years ago more than half the earth's species were killed by such a disaster, including all the dinosaurs. Disasters on the Earth may seem dangerous, but the biggest threat to humans is likely to come from space.

Mr. Guo is a teacher from Xi'an. He asked his students to hand in their homework through a QR code (二维码) . "We spent an hour or two in class learning how to generate (产生) the codes, and in the end everything gets easier" said Gao. "When students finish the homework, they keep it on WeChat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and gives it to me. So I can check their work everywhere using my computer or telephone."

The QR codes can be sent to Mr. Guo by email, QQ and WeChat. When Guo scans (扫描) his students' QR codes, their homework appears on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative, with many pictures, music and even videos.

Guo's students like the new way and think it is interesting. "We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers, which makes learning more fun." said Tingting, a student of Guo's.

"The paper is not easy to keep. but the code is easy to keep and share." Guo said. "It is worth trying to use new technology in education. Education itself is a kind of creation. I don't want my students to fall behind the times."

However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers and less time communicating with teachers. But in fact, it's unnecessary.

Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they hand in their homework, which doesn't take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students' work at any time. And it's also an easy way to share homework with other students.

Many teenagers feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that their family members, especially their parents, don't know them as well as their friends do. Our School English Day

Our school English Day was a great success.

Online voting has become so  (increase) popular that many people get involved in it. It is beneficial to some people, while it puts others into a dilemma over whether to vote or not.

Xinjiang has long been known as a place of music and dancing.

Stop Spam!

When I first got an e-mail account over ten years ago, I received communications only from family, friends, and colleagues. Now it seems that every time I check my e-mail, I have an endless series of advertisements and other correspondence that do not interest me at all.and we need specific laws that make spamming (发送垃圾邮件) a crime.

, the problem will certainly get much worse. Computer programs allow spammers to send hundreds of millions of e-mails almost instantly. so individual e-mail boxes are often flooded with spam e-mails. Would people continue to use e- mail if they had to deal with an annoying amount of spam each time?

This problem is troubling for individuals and companies as well.. Companies rely on e-mail for their employees to communicate with each other. Spam frequently causes failures in their local communication networks, and their employees are thus unable to communicate effectively. Such a situation results in a loss of productivity and requires companies to repeatedly repair their networks.

For these reasons,. Spammers should be fined, and perhaps sent to prison if they continue to disturb people. E-mail is a tool which helps people all over the world to communicate conveniently, but spam is destroying this convenience.

It was 6 a.m. as I got on the train, ending my work one cold morning and I was lucky to get a seat. At that time of the morning, my eyes were not fully focused and at times I was half asleep. During that time the train was usually filled with construction workers heading out to start their work. On that particular morning I found myself drawn on the shoes of men sitting about 10 seats across from me.

I sat examining the shoes of men. Men from different walks of life, holding different jobs, thinking different thoughts, living different lives and despite what they did and how they looked, they all had something in common. They were all of the working class trying to achieve their dreams.

One day each of those men has to visit a shoe store to buy a new pair of shoes, a type that fits their working needs. For a short time those shoes look so good. Then one day they lose their shine; they no longer look as good, but guess what? The shoes feel right. Feet have found their own home within the comfort of those shoes.

If those shoes could talk what kind of a tale do you think they would tell? If your shoes could talk, what do you think they would say about you? Would the story be about a journey filled with joy and fun? Or would the story be one filled with disappointment and regret?

We choose the shoes. Where we take them and when and how we wear them are up to us.
