Spoken Chinese consisted of a number of Chinese dialects (方言) throughout history. In the Ming Dynasty, standard Mandarin was nationalized. Even so,  was not until the Republic of China era in the 1910s that there were some noticeable results in  (promote) a common unified language in China.

Despite the difficulty in mastering it, Classical Chinese remains  (extreme) important in the world heritage of languages. Classical Chinese's birth is related  the beginning of astronomy (天文学) , the connection with higher spirits through divination (占卜) and the formation Book of Changes,  most famous being the one of the Zhou Dynasty. Therefore, Chinese is packed with great meaning and  (wise). It is not only a code or a tool, but a language  gives light and guidance when  (receive) in a proper way. Classical Chinese has been the cultural backbone of all the great philosophies, spirituality, and even arts not just in China but all over Asia.

I started skiing when I was three years old. My mom worked as a ski instructor as she also loved the snow. While the other 1 in my group were whining(哭闹) and complaining, I was busy learning skiing. And at the age of four, I was 2 through the snow with my mom. I remember falling once and realizing that the 3 was taller than I was.

How to Prepare for and Survive a Flood

Flooding is a common natural disaster around the world.  If so, quickly review these flood safety guidelines to increase your chances of survival and protect your possession.

Pay close attention to the radio, television, community announcements or your cellphone for official flooding updates.  A flood watch means a flood is possible in your area. A flood warning means flooding is already occurring or will occur soon—and you should be prepared to leave the flood area.

Gray had great academic performance in high school and wanted to apply to Harvard and other top schools, but could not afford the application fees, let alone school fees. But with a passion for business, he dreamed of attending a college in the Northeast so he could be close to New York City and other major business centers.

Soon, he got the Gates Millennium Scholarship, which covers school fees from a bachelor's to a doctor's degree. A $20,000 scholarship from Coca-Cola followed. He also received a 820,000 Horatio Alger Scholarship and the $ 10,000 Axa Achievement Scholarship. And smaller awards just kept coming. In the end, he had amazing success, receiving 34 scholarships worth $1.3 million — enough to pay for years of school, plus cover his living expenses with some leftover to invest.

Gray has used the money for schooling, room and board, daily supplies, travel for interviews, and other needs. After appearing at national conferences and in the media, hundreds of students and parents have emailed and called for advice, which inspired Gray, now a business major at Drexel, to make a mobile-phone app called Scholly—short for "scholarships"— to help other teens get scholarship money.

Though the app had thousands of downloads, Gray and his colleagues decided to keep the price only at 99 cents because their purpose was more public service than profit. As for his career plans, he has the goal of a true enterpriser: "Ideally not to have to get a job when I graduate."

When people think about improving their physical fitness, they often neglect (忽视) balance. Good balance is a necessary part of being physically fit and key to living a long life, according to a research. It's important for everyone, no matter your age.

Older adults are most affected by poor balance. Falls are the leading cause of injury and death for those 65 and older, with nearly 30% in this age group reporting at least one fall in 2018, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But younger adults frequently fall down, too. 

Forty-eight percent of young adults reported falling at least once during one 16-week study. The falls most commonly happened during sports activities, with women in the study reporting more falls and fall-related injuries than men.

Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to 65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. While falls among young adults were often connected with sports, falls by the middle-aged group were typically related to health problems and physical changes.

Although scientists are still trying to find the cause, there are several possible reasons. First of all, more farmers are using pesticide (杀虫剂). Besides, different illnesses have caused the deaths of many different species of bees. Finally, global warming has changed the bees' living environment.

In a high school in Missouri, there is a remarkable student named Ryheem Lumpkins. At the age of 16, Ryheem displayed a tough spirit that challenged physical limitations. While his arms and hands hadn't fully developed, he still managed to land a part-time job as a cashier at a local pizza restaurant.

Cloud "engineering" could be more effective for climate cooling than previously thought, because of the increased cloud cover produced, new research shows.

In a study published in Nature Geoscience, researchers at the University of Birmingham found that marine cloud brightening （MCB）, also known as marine cloud engineering, works primarily by increasing the amount of cloud cover, accounting for 60%-90% of the cooling effect.

The practice of MCB has attracted much attention in recent years as a way of offsetting the global warming effects caused by humans and buying some time while the global economy decarbonises（脱碳）. It works by spraying tiny particles, or aerosols（气溶胶）, into the atmosphere where they mix with clouds and with the primary aim of increasing the amount of sunlight that clouds can reflect.

However, the ways in which MCB creates a cooling effect, and the ways in which clouds will respond to aerosols, are still poorly understood. To investigate the phenomenon, the researchers created a "natural experiment", using aerosol injection from the effusive eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii to study the interactions between these natural aerosols, clouds, and climate.

Using machine learning and historic satellite and meteorological（气象学的） data, the team created a predictor to show how the cloud would behave during periods when the volcano was inactive. This predictor enabled them to identify clearly the impacts on the clouds that had been directly caused by the volcanic aerosols.

They were able to show that the cloud cover relatively increased by up to 50% during the periods of volcanic activity, producing a cooling effect of up to — 10 W/m² regionally.

Lead author, Dr Ying Chen, of the University of Birmingham, said, "Our findings show that marine cloud brightening could be more effective as a climate intervention than climate models have suggested previously. Of course, while it could be useful, MCB does not address the underlying causes of global warming from greenhouse gases produced by human activities. It should therefore be regarded as a ‘painkiller', rather than a solution."

Honeybees command a lot of attention in insect conservation circles, as they are important for pollinating our food supply. But the findings from researchers emphasize the importance of prioritizing other pollinators or insects like wild bees, moths and butterflies in conservation efforts, too.

For the study, ecologists Joshua Kohn and Dillon Travis from the University of California, painstakingly tracked the pollination of flowers from two plant species in San Diego — white sage and Phacelia distans. Often Travis sat for hours waiting for a single pollinator, honeybees or other insects, to land on a flower. Each time he put a mesh（网状的） bag on the flower to prevent any new visitor, then back to collect seeds from different visitors. Back in the greenhouse, the team grew the seeds, analyzing characteristics that reflected their quality, such as how many seeds grew and survived and how many leaves or flower seedlings（幼苗） grew from them.

They found flowers pollinated by honeybees make fewer and lower-quality seeds than flowers visited by other pollinators. The white sage and Phacelia distans plants produced roughly half the amount of seeds from flowers pollinated by honeybees compared with other pollinators. And Phacelia distans seeds from honeybee-pollinated plants grew into seedlings with fewer flowers.

The researchers also found that honeybees visited about twice as many flowers on one plant before moving to the next than the average of other pollinators, causing honeybees to transfer more pollen in flowers of the same plant, thus resulting in fewer and lower-quality and more inbred（近亲繁殖的） seeds. Other pollinators more often flew between different plants, probably transferring more diverse pollen.

Travis says,"Honeybees' pollination habit can impact ecosystems and agriculture in the long term. One potential consequence could be that native plant populations decline as next generations become more inbred, reducing biodiversity."

"It is time to actually shift our dependence for pollination from largely honeybees to other native species as well," says Jaya Sravanthi Mokkapati, an entomologist at Pen n State University.
