Within the wildly varied types of Peruvian food, there's one deserving some special attention-Peruvian Chinese food, locally (call) chifa. The roots of the chifa tradition lie in the first big wave, of Chinese migration to Peru, which (occur) in the mid-nineteenth century. Since then, more Chinese have come to Peru. And this, in turn, creates interesting (opportunity) for Chinese citizens considering opening a business in Peru.

The Chinese influence in Peru has given rise to kind of fusion (融合) cuisine. Also, it's responsible for contributing some absolutely essential ingredients Peruvian cooking.

Just as traditional Chinese ingredients took root in wider Peruvian cuisine, certain words of Chinese origin became commonly-used in Peru. Of course, there's the word chifa, describes Chinese-Peruvian fusion food as well as the restaurants that sell it. Chifa is not just a fusion of two cuisines a reflection of the unique culinary traditions of the regions where it is prepared. Recipes can easily (adjust) to include ingredients only available or popular in a specific region.

Another fun fact: the (huge) popular late-night TV programme "Wantan Night" was actually named after the wontons used in chifa, (demonstrate) just how deeply rooted Chinese cuisine is in Peru.

  • 2、Tyson Lee, a chemistry and physics teacher at Calvin Coolidge High School, Washington, D. C., is cooking up something special for his students every week — live from his home kitchen, which he transformed into a1. Working from home, he has been conducting bubbling and fiery science experiments and2 them over social media and platforms for his students.

"The reason why I did it is because of my3 for my students," said Lee. When a serious hurricane hit, forcing schools to close, the teachers4, Lee among their ranks.

Lee mentioned that these5 have been great for student involvement and engaging with students on a more6 level. According to Lee, he got 100%7 from his students. They completed the work; they asked questions. They don't just come with their brain-they come with their8 and their feelings. And that fostered a9 teacher-student bond. "When that's strong, you can push them forward10 ."

Lee added that he missed being able to check in with his students11, though. "With any teacher, if we cannot see our students, we will have no way of knowing how they are doing, whether they're having a great day or a(n)12 day," he said, highlighting the13 of virtual learning. • 3、Are you a person who tends to think about situations in your life more pessimistically, or are you a glass-half-full kind of person? Or are you more likely to give them the benefit of the doubt-maybe they're rushing to the hospital? Do you wait until the last minute to complete tasks, or do you plan ahead? Personality is a collection of labels that summarize your responses to questions like these.

Can personality change? Remember, personality is a person's characteristic way of thinking, feeling and behaving. People change how they think, feel and behave all the time. As people age, they tend to experience fewer negative emotions and more positive ones, are more conscientious, and are less judgmental of others. Some people change a lot and some people hold pretty steady. Moreover, studies find that people can speed up the process of personality change by making intentional changes to their thinking and behavior.

The first component involves changing your thinking patterns — this is the cognitive (认知的) piece. You need to become aware of your thoughts to determine whether they're keeping you stuck acting in line with a particular personality. The behavioral component involves becoming aware of your current action tendencies and testing out new responses. By contrast, if you try behaving more openly, perhaps sharing with a coworker that you're struggling with a task, you have the opportunity to see whether that changes the way others act toward you.

    A. There is variability here, though.

    B. Do you tend to get angry when someone cuts you off in traffic?

    C. Are you showing the characteristics of a reliable person over time?

    D. If you are defensive around others, they'll probably respond negatively to you.

    E. The good news is that these cognitive-behavioral techniques are relatively simple.

    F. That is contrary to the popular belief that your personality type places you in a box.

    G. Depending on your answers, you can be described as optimistic, empathetic or dependable.

  • 4、Unemployment is a significant problem in many developing countries. Without steady work, individuals struggle to rise out of poverty, and the community as a whole also misses out. Worse, without opportunities for proper employment, young people sometimes turn to crime and violence in order to provide for themselves. Thus, giving people opportunities to work is essential for the community's well-being.

Education plays a vital role in equipping people for certain jobs, but many young people find that even if they are qualified, the jobs are just not there. This was the situation that Rwandan entrepreneur (企业家) Noel Nizeyimana faced. When he graduated from university with a degree in soil and environmental science, he sent out application after application but received no job offers, so he turned to creating his own business, Greencare Rwanda Ltd., a company that transforms waste into products.

Starting a company is not easy, but luckily for Noel, he received funding that helped him get started from the UN Youth Joint Programme. This program is an attempt to reach the UN's sustainable development goal of "decent work and economic growth." It also employs 25 people, which shows that helping people start businesses provides work for more than just the person who receives the funds.

All this raises the question of what more can be done to empower young people to start their own businesses. Providing funds to cover the initial costs is certainly important as the starting costs for businesses can be extremely high. Governments are sometimes hesitant to provide funds to startups because success is not guaranteed. Starting a business is risky, and nobody wants to waste money, but experts warn that governments should not enforce too many requirements. Different regions will need different strategies, so trying to conduct a set of one-size-fits-all requirements can lead to the opposite outcome.

While there are other ways to address unemployment, encouraging young business owners is one of the most effective-especially when those businesses produce goods that genuinely help local communities.

(1)、What is the beginning paragraph mainly about?
A、The importance of higher education. B、The consequences of unemployment. C、The role of government in creating jobs. D、The influence of providing work opportunities.
(2)、How is paragraph 2 mainly developed?
A、By giving an example. B、By stating an argument. C、By making a comparison. D、By presenting an explanation.
(3)、What is the opposite outcome of applying the standardized requirements?
A、Risking wasting money. B、Carrying out different approaches. C、Harming the growth of new businesses. D、Empowering young people and investment.
(4)、What is the main idea of the passage?
A、International funding helps build successful mutual trade. B、Education shoulders an ultimate responsibility in one's career. C、Entrepreneurship eases joblessness and boosts community welfare. D、Unemployment is the primary cause of crime in developing countries.
  • 5、Hydrogen fuel-cell (氢燃料电池) vehicles aren't just sources for science fiction or far-out experiments. Cars fueled by hydrogen, like the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, are already here, and hydrogen fuel-cell technology is actively evolving and benefiting from billions of dollars in research. So, why are hydrogen cars virtually non-existent on U. S. roads today?

"The answer is simple: economics,' Sergey Paltsev, a senior scientist at the MIT Energy Initiative told Popular Science. Politicians and automakers once advocated the fuel cell, which turns the chemical energy of hydrogen into electricity to drive an electric motor, as the future of passenger automobiles, but the falling cost of batteries and a large number of electrical fueling infrastructure (基础设施) have propelled battery-electric cars well into the lead.

A big switch to hydrogen cars would require cost-cutting and enormous infrastructure development. The Department of Energy' s Alternative Fuels Data Center shows 55 public hydrogen fueling station locations in the U. S. today, almost only in California, while more than 68,000 active public electric vehicle charging stations across the country.

"Nothing is going to change next year, or probably not in the next five years, but there are brighter pathways for hydrogen vehicles," said Paltsev. It turns out that hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles have advantageous applications in medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks and aviation (航空). Besides, battery electric vehicles can be problematic when you have problems with range, fueling time or heavy loads.

The current impractical application of hydrogen passenger vehicles in places like the U. S.is not a reason to"just give up" on hydrogen fuel-cell tech. "We may need it for many other reasons in the future," cautioned Paltsev, noting that geopolitical issues could prevent access to raw materials for batteries, thus making hydrogen cars suddenly more economically workable.

(1)、Why are hydrogen cars not commonly seen on U. S. roads today?
A、Lack of public awareness. B、Unavailability of hydrogen fuel. C、Limited research and development. D、High costs and insufficient infrastructure.
(2)、What is Sergey Paltsev's attitude towards hydrogen vehicles in the future?
    A、Hopeful. B、Doubtful. C、Indifferent. D、Confused.
(3)、What can be learned about hydrogen fuel-cell tech from the passage?
A、It is already cost-effective for passenger vehicles. B、It fails to solve the problems with range or fueling time. C、It is practicable due to potential issues resulting from geopolitics. D、It has unsatisfactory applications in heavy-duty trucks and aviation.
(4)、What would be the best title to r this passage?
A、Battery-Electric Vehicles: A Glorious Era B、Hydrogen Vehicles: Struggling Yet Promising C、Why Are We Not Driving Electric Powered Cars? D、How to Build a Public Hydrogen Fueling Station?
  • 6、I was walking home when a well-dressed man politely stopped me. "Could you tell me which way to Bloor and..." He struggled to get the next word out with a pained look, but I knew better than to finish his sentence for him. "... Bathurst?" he said after several seconds of trying. When I answered, he told me that he didn't actually need to know. He was practising stuttering (口吃) openly, he explained, hoping to become more confident doing so around strangers.

"Are you doing that because it's National Stuttering Awareness Day?" I asked with excitement, eager to connect with other stutterers. When he asked how I knew that, I said I grew up with a stutter. He nodded, asking hopefully: "So your stutter has magically disappeared?" I paused. I understood why he assumed this — I sounded quite articulate. But even as we spoke, my stutter had influenced my speech, and that's why I'd misnamed International as National to avoid the tricky front sound that I continue to struggle with.

Though the severity of my stutter has decreased with age, it has shaped my identity and affected my life tremendously, the way that I speak, interact and move around in the world. Some define stutter as a disability because it is as constant and out of control as blindness or other disabilities. There's no pill, no surgery, no way to get rid of it, no "recovering" from it. But there is recovering from the shame and self-hatred that result from it. The treatment for stutter shouldn't be centered around removing a person's stutter, but rather on reducing one's negative thoughts and behaviors surrounding it.

As for me, I'd say that my stutter has not "magically disappeared" because I've simply found ways to conceal it. But I have a better therapy now — I will grow alongside it, an identity inseparable from the way that I speak. Thinking about this, I wanted to speak from the bottom of my heart to the man, who looked at me hopefully: "__________"

(1)、What can we learn about the decent man?
A、He had lost his way and asked about the direction. B、He wanted to be braver when talking to unfamiliar people. C、He was interrupted by the author who finished his sentence. D、He was practising giving speeches fluently on open occasions.
(2)、Which is closest in meaning to "articulate" in paragraph 2?
    A、Fluent. B、Sensible. C、Different. D、Relaxed.
(3)、Which of the following can best describe the author?
A、Adaptable and optimistic. B、Outgoing and ambitious. C、Humorous and reflective. D、Educated and responsible.
(4)、What might the author say in the last paragraph?
A、Yes. I have got rid of stutter with a more positive attitude. B、No. There is no recovering from stutter and I have just hidden it. C、Yes. As I grow older, I rarely stutter now and people don't know I stuttered. D、No. I will always live with stutter because it is a part of me which I gladly accept.
