11、Although smartphones bring great convenience to our lives, how and where we store them can have unexpected results. Considering your health and damage to the phone, you'd better think twice before putting your phone in certain places.
Many people are used to keeping their phones in their pockets all day. Studies have shown that when a phone is connected to WiFi and placed close to the body, such as in a pocket, radiation exposure (辐射暴露) increases greatly. This may cause health problems like cancer development.
Even though it's convenient, your pillow is not a safe place for your phone. The LED light from the screen may affect your natural sleep cycle, and the phone may overheat, leading to a fire risk. Sleeping so close to radiation is also something to think about.
Some people leave their phones in their cars. The temperatures in the car can be extremely high in summer and cold in winter. For example, it may damage battery life, make the screen work badly, or even cause data loss.
Keeping your phone too close to your face is also something to avoid. Using headphones or earphones is a safer way to stay connected. The bacteria (细菌) on your screen can transfer to your skin, leading to skin problems.
The beach may be fun for you, but not for your phone. Strong sunlight can easily cause your phone to overheat. They both can seriously damage your phone.
A. Many people use their phone s before sleep.
B. In addition, small sand may get into the phone.
C. Putting your phone near water is not a good idea.
D. Long-term contact may also cause early skin aging.
E. This might seem harmless, but it may affect your health.
F. Extreme temperatures can have a bad effect on your phone.
G. Another common habit is sleeping with a phone under the pillow.

12、A new fast-food restaurant, BurgerBot, is getting a lot of attention in the restaurant industry. It hires robots instead of humans to prepare meals. The restaurant features robots that can work non-stop to make burgers without breaks.
BurgerBot is part of a growing trend (趋势) of robots in the food service industry. The restaurant believes its technology is suitable for tasks that humans aren't interested in, such as making burgers. This development comes when many fast-food restaurants face difficulties in hiring and keeping staff. Robot workers help restaurants run smoothly without dealing with staff problems.
The introduction of fully automated (自动的) restaurants raises questions about the future of job markets in the food service industry. Fast food has long provided many jobs, especially for people starting their first job or those without higher education. With statements like "the robots are taking our jobs", BurgerBot admits the substitution of human workers but says it's a change we can't avoid. The restaurant sees this shift as progress, not a problem.
BurgerBot stresses cleanliness and standardization as key benefits of its robot-made food. By avoiding human contact, the automated system helps lower the risk of food being prepared in an unclean way. It also ensures equal amounts of food are served each time. This reduces the variation that comes with human preparation. However, there are still questions about how customers will respond to the lack of human contact. It remains to be seen whether the standard quality of robot-made food can make up for the loss of the human touch in food preparation.
As this technology grows, customers will eventually decide whether cleanliness and standardization are more important than the skill and care that humans put into preparing food.
(1)、Why does BurgerBot think robots are suitable for some restaurant tasks?A、They work faster than humans. B、They make food more creative. C、They do tasks people don't like to do. D、They reduce the cost of hiring human staff.(2)、What does the underlined word "substitution" in paragraph 3 mean?A、Replacement. B、Employment. C、Improvement. 13、Is there food on Mars? Almost certainly not. But astronauts need to eat every day, and sending food to space is super expensive—one meal can cost $10, 000. Thus, finding a way to feed them on the trip to Mars is a really big challenge.
Now, UK-based researchers think they have the solution. Dr Rodrigo, the lead researcher, says astronauts could grow their own food while flying to Mars. These researchers are carrying out a project for astronauts to produce food in a smart and Earth-friendly way, using a few special cells (细胞) and mini cell factories to create useful products.
The project has now been tested in space when a spaceship took cells into orbit. The cells were in a mini space lab. It is like a small science lab in a box that lets scientists do experiments under microgravity, without the usual limits of space research. In the space lab, cells grew and produced a particular vitamin (维生素). "This material could be collected and eaten by astronauts in the space," Dr Rodrigo said, "but the space lab is hard to bring. So we need to rethink how it may look like."
Dr Rodrigo and his team hope even a short time in microgravity will show whether their cells can produce different kinds of food, from milk products to ice cream. They also hope the technology will be applied to a wide range of industries. "In the future, when we build a base on the Moon, we'll need space labs like this to help people live there for a long time, " he said.
(1)、What makes feeding astronauts on the trip to Mars challenging?A、High cost of space meals. B、Limited space for food. C、Long transportation time. D、Uncertainty of cell growth.(2)、What is the purpose of the project carried out by researchers?A、To find food on Mars. B、To create food in space. C、To explore life on Mars. D、To send astronauts to space.(3)、What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?A、The role of vitamin in space. B、The health problems of astronauts. C、The design work of spaceship. D、The test of the project in space lab.(4)、What does Dr Rodrigo think of space labs?A、Easy to bring to space. B、Important for the Moon bases. C、Expensive to build in space. D、Difficult for humans to produce. -
14、Gregory believes his love for nature began in the farm fields near his childhood home. He remembers spending endless hours exploring the nature, often missing family gatherings. This deep fascination eventually led him to photography.
At 20, Gregory began filming leopards (豹) in South Africa, which deepened his interest in wildlife. In 2015, Gregory became an explorer to shoot videos of wildlife. In 2021, after filming in extreme conditions for 8 times in Antarctica, he led a team to Elephant Island. It was said that many fin whales once lived in this faraway place long ago, but many of them were killed by whalers. However, this time Gregory and his team discovered a hopeful sign: the whales were returning.
After six weeks of extreme weather, they had only six days suitable for filming. During that time, they saw something amazing. About 300 fin whales were eating krill (磷虾) in an area as big as a few football fields. Gregory recalled, "That day, all I could see were whales blowing air through their noses! Their 20-foot-high blows looked just like a sea battle. This sight is important because it shows that fin whales have come back in large numbers since governments stopped whale-hunting in the 1980s. "
Now, Gregory is sharing penguin stories in a new series. The series shows how different penguins live in tough places. Gregory hopes his work will help people enjoy nature more. He also wants to inspire viewers to care about the environment and protect nature. "One thing I'm interested in now is making every project contribute to the general public's appreciation for nature and their awareness of environmental issues," says Gregory.
