There's something classy about having a piano in your home. It seems a sense of luxury to have one in your establishment. Depending on the piano you have, you need to follow some maintenance practices to make sure your piano stays in the best shape for the longest time possible.
Place the piano at a low-traffic spot. If you want your piano to serve you a lifetime, do place it in a post where it'll be less influenced by human traffic. If you instead place your piano near doors, people coming in opening and shutting the door might once or twice hit the sides of the piano, damaging it slowly.
Place the piano away from the window. There is an obvious reason why this is advised. Indeed you may be able to wipe off the dust on the surfaces, but can you imagine what gets into the inaccessible parts? The dust finding its way to the inside may start causing issues inside.
Clean your hands before using it. Just imagine walking. out on business and immediately jumping in to start your music lesson. If you have to use the piano, you should wash your hands with soap and water. You don't want your piano to be the source of infection, do you?
It can prevent food and drinks falling onto your piano and then causing damage. What's more, it can save you from having to wipe dust and the dirt off.
A.Get your piano a housing cover.
B.Keep it away from food and drinks.
C.That is dust coming through the window.
D.Avoid any spot with things hanging or placed on top of the piano.
E.All the bacteria you have picked up end up on the piano keys, right!
F.That is to say they are better off at home comers or the centre of a big hall.
G.The following pieces will highlight how to properly take care of your piano.

One Saturday last November, I stepped into my local library. I was about to read a book when I heard an elderly man speak to a lady. "This library will soon become a café. Everyone is reading with electronic devices, "he said. Hearing this, I wanted to shout, "I still read library books!" But my words stuck in my throat and I found teenagers around me were talking to friends or staring at their phones.
Reading online feels robotic to me. It's like I stare at a screen and click "next" for the following page to appear until the very end of the e-book, and at the end of all of that, I just think, "That's it?"But when I read a printed book, it's like I'm holding on to the characters. I can visualize the plot better, as I can picture the scenes of each moment in my head with more accuracy and imagination.
Besides, some online books miss components that are in the printed novels. For instance, the physical copy of a fantasy novel I have read contains a map, but the e-book version does not. That is an injustice to e-book users; after reading and interpreting the map, the story made a lot more sense for me, in terms of the setting and plot.
And personally, physically turning to the next page is better than clicking "next". When reading online, I sometimes worry that I click "next" too quickly. It feels more like a race; I want to finish it because the pages just keep making that "flipping" sound and I wonder how long the book really is.
Some printed books have a special smell that makes the novel feel special to me. It's hard to describe but I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks so. I know I cannot convince every teen to switch from the digital book to the printed one, but maybe my writing about the difference will at least get some of them to think about it.
(1)、Why will the library be replaced by a cafe?A、Few people head for it. B、It lacks good management. C、Few people read its books. D、It holds little attraction for the youth.(2)、Why does the author prefer printed books according to paragraph 2?A、They include additional contents. B、They leave a vivid impression. C、They have a special pleasant smell. D、They can improve readers' imagination.(3)、What influence does reading online have on the author?A、Making her tired of reading. B、Leading her to read aimlessly. C、Bringing more injustice to her. D、Stopping her digging into reading.(4)、What is the author's purpose of writing this text?A、To awaken teenagers' interest in reading. B、To publicize advantages of printed books. C、To reduce the impact of electronic devices. D、To encourage teens to change the reading medium. -

What is the purpose of lightning?
Many are familiar with the potentially deadly dangers posed by lightning, which is blamed for an average of 43 deaths in the United States each year, based on data from 1989 to 2018. Although the odds of being struck are quite low—1 in 1,222,000 in a given year and 1 in 15,300 in a lifetime—many in the weather community have long urged people to take proper precautions to stay safe amid storms, which can frequently cause lightning, even without turning severe.
However, the researchers recently uncovered a surprising and beneficial impact of lightning. The Earth is struck by lightning nearly 20 million times each year, and lighting can travel as much as 10 to 12 miles from a thunderstorm, instantly heating the air to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Essentially, lightning occurs due to the buildup of electric charges in the atmosphere. In order to balance out the different charges, lightning is caused between two clouds or between a cloud and the ground.
The study was based on an airborne research flight conducted by a storm-chasing plane. The plane was used to examine the top portion of thunderstorm clouds. Researchers initially thought there was a problem with the equipment on the plane, which was being used to measure the hydroxyl radicals(羟基自由基) in the atmosphere until they realized spikes they observed corresponded with lightning flashes.
Researchers previously understood that lightning could help to clean the atmosphere, but there was no evidence that it could generate compounds like these radicals. And the data showed surprising spikes of up to 1,000 more hydroxyl radicals than the normal value. As a result, the study estimates that somewhere between 2% and 16% of the cleaning that happens naturally in the Earth's atmosphere is done by lightning.
Why is this significant? The cleaning process helps to reduce chemicals like carbon monoxide and methane in the atmosphere. These chemicals, known for being greenhouse gases, have been proven to contribute to rising temperatures associated with climate change.
(1)、What is the best title for the text?A、Lighting happens in a flash B、Lighting causes deaths every year C、Lighting can help fight against global warming D、Lighting reduces gases in the atmosphere(2)、How many deaths did lighting cause in the United States from 1989 to 2018?A、Less than 1000. B、About 1300. C、About 2000. D、More than1600.(3)、How does lighting clean the atmosphere?A、By generating carbon monoxide. B、By generating methane. C、By heating the air. D、By reducing greenhouse gases.(4)、What made researchers doubt the equipment on the plane?A、The electronic charges in the atmosphere. B、The times of lighting flashes. C、The top portion of thunderstorm clouds. D、The increasing amount of hydroxyl radical. -

My best friend traveled to stay with our family last weekend. When she arrived, she went straight to the kitchen and, without asking, ate a spoonful of raspberry jam and some dried fruit. She wasn't being rude. I knew she would do this. We've known each other for almost 20 years. She can eat anything she wants from my kitchen. Indeed, I bought her favorite fruits and snacks at the shop that morning.
Our long weekend together was luxuriously (惬意地) simple. I was recovering from surgery (手术) and couldn't go to shopping malls. We passed the time running errands (做杂事), going to the post office and collecting dry cleaning. We drank way too many cappuccinos. But we talked about every little detail of our lives.
There's never been a quiet moment in our friendship. We've lived in different cities for almost a decade. Reunions demand constant conversation. our personalities are matched, to be sure, and a shared history is indescribably valuable. We were competitors in high school before bonding over a bad experience. Then we discovered the many interests that we had in common. Our friendship cemented (巩固) itself quickly. We stayed companions through law school, through our first jobs and our first boyfriends. We supported each other through break-ups and breakthroughs. Ours is a friendship for the ages.
There is something special about friends who know everyone and everything about you. They are rare. These are the people you've chosen to witness your life. They have seen the bright lights of achievement, the depths of despair (绝望) and the boring routine (平淡乏味) of the in-between.
It's special to unpack feelings and frustrations without wasting time filling in the blanks. As my long weekend shows, with such friends we don't have to "do", we simply have to "be". We drop the act, the performance, the public version of ourselves.
The special friendships are those which never fail to delight, the continuation of which is worth the extra effort, despite distance and difference sneaking (溜进) into your separate lives. I had the very great joy of this reminder last weekend. I'm lucky to have found this friend, to see a future where her companionship remains. Being together is perfection.
(1)、What happened during her best friend's visit?A、They enjoyed an eventful long weekend. B、They bonded by having long conversations. C、They made their favorite snacks and coffee. D、They talked about recent news events.(2)、One thing that the author appreciates about their friendship is that ____.A、they help each other deal with the boredom of life B、they prefer to witness each other's lives from far away C、they try to show each other their best selves D、they are comfortable being themselves when together(3)、Which of the following would the author agree with?A、Charm comes from differences. B、Politeness brings best friends closer. C、Good friendships last naturally. D、Good friendships need devotion.(4)、The author's main purpose in writing this article is to ____.A、describe what her best friend is like B、tell about the friendship she treasures C、explore the key aspects of friendship D、express thanks to her best friend -

Is an electric vehicle right for you?
Many people will ask themselves that question for the first time this year. Prices are falling, battery range is rising and mainstream brands are adding new EVs at a breakneck pace.
Here are three things anybody seriously considering buying an EV should know:
1. The price to install a 240v charger
Anybody who owns an electric vehicle needs a 240-volt charger at home. With one, you can recharge overnight, so you start every day with the equivalent of a full tank.
Just a few years ago, home 240v EV chargers cost $2,500-$3,000, including installation, but prices have declined as competition grows with the number of EVs on the road.
2. The time it takes to charge
About 80% of miles driven in EVs are powered by electricity charged at home, but you'll need to charge elsewhere occasionally. That's when charging time becomes a big deal, but how long it takes depends on a couple of factors.
First, voltage from the charger. Getting 250 miles of range in seven hours from a 240v charger is fine when you're charging overnight at home, but it's a deal breaker if you're going 300 miles for a weekend getaway. In that case, you'll want to look for a 400v DC fast charger. They're not as common as 240v public chargers yet, but they're becoming more widespread.
There's another factor: the on-board charger. It regulates how fast the battery can accept electricity. A vehicle with a higher-capacity on-board charger accepts electricity faster.
3. Where to charge
Good route-planning apps will help you find chargers on a road trip.
"Most people have no idea how many public charging stations are within, say, a 10- or 15-mile radius (半径) because they're small, people don't look for them or even don't know what to look for, and they're rarely signposted," said journalist John Voelcker, who has studied EVs and charging exhaustively.
4.On the horizon
If an EV doesn't meet your needs now, watch this space. They're coming closer, but large numbers of gasoline vehicles will remain in production for years. Beyond that, companies will keep making spare parts for oil-burners for decades.
(1)、Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?A、The price of installing a home EV charger has remained stable in the past few years. B、It's quite easy to identify the public charging stations with the help of striking signposts. C、Popular brands are introducing new EVs at an incredibly fast rate. D、An electric vehicle can't provide the same amount of energy as a completely filled fuel tank.(2)、The underlined phrase "watch this space" in the last paragraph probably means "____".A、give up the plan to purchase an EV B、make space for an EV C、find an alternative to EV D、keep an eye out for future developments(3)、This passage is mainly intended to ____.A、illustrate the factors charging time depends on B、offer advice on purchasing an electric vehicle C、look forward to the future of electric vehicles D、explain the reason for the falling prices of electric vehicles -

17、 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As the cold of winter loosened its hold and spring was approaching, I found myself in the quiet process of recovery. The world outside my window, once full of life, now seemed like a distant, unreachable place. Each day was a repetition of the last, a cycle that mirrored my own struggle to regain my strength and find hope in a future that felt dark and uncertain.
One afternoon, as I sat mindlessly by the window, a flash of movement caught my eye-a swallow (燕子) under the roof. It was a delicate creature, with its elegant wings. For a moment, it seemed to look at me, its eyes bright and curious, as if it recognized a fellow soul.
"A swallow," I whispered, looking at the lovely creature, whose liveliness formed a contrast with the silence of the room.
The swallow's daily visits became a comforting rhythm, as steady as the dawn's arrival. Each time it appeared on that branch, it wasn't just a sign of spring; it was like a friend. I found myself looking forward to its daily appearances. Its presence became a flicker (闪现) of warmth in my otherwise lifeless days.
One day, the swallow was not alone; it had been joined by a mate. Together, they began the merry work of building a nest under the roof. Inspired by their joyful spirit, I decided it was time for me to take control of my own life. I began to set small, achievable goals, mirroring the swallows' tireless work on their nest.
However, life can be unpredictable. Just when the nest was almost done, a storm blew in out of nowhere, tearing the nest apart. I watched from my window, my heart aching for the swallows and their broken dream.

I was worried I would never see the beautiful creatures come back.
