2、The International Day of Happiness, falling on March 20 every year, serves to remind people of the significance of happiness. Experts in various fields hold different answers to them.
Sally Lyubomirsky, a researcher of positive psychology, provides a clear description of happiness. combined with a sense that one's life is good, meaningful and worthwhile.
People's levels of subjective (主观的) happiness are influenced by both internal factors and external factors, according to the authors of the book Culture and Psychology. These include their natural personality traits, the quality of their relationships with others, the society they are a part of, and their ability to meet their basic needs.
In an article published on Iran Public Health, three researchers show how twin studies have suggested that genetic factors count for 35-50 percent of happiness. The study also mentioned two genes that may have an effect on happiness, which may help explain the genetic base of happiness in the future.
From the perspective of economics, Ted Pettinger, said that factors affecting happiness can include income, quality of work and quality of consumption. Among them, proper income is key. He believes that at low levels of income, increasing income is generally agreed to increase happiness as it allows a person to buy necessary goods and services such as health care and education.
The truth is that happiness itself is different for everyone, so everyone defines it differently and pursues it in a variety of ways.
A. Several important factors contribute to a person's happiness.
B. In general, happiness is significant to people.
C. With the income, people can have the food, shelter and necessary education.
D. According to her, happiness can be described as the experience of joy or positive well-being,
E. However, after certain income levels, rising income contributes little to overall happiness.
F. More than that, experts in medical fields found that genes might influence happiness.
G. But what exactly is happiness and how can one achieve it?

3、It is well-known that earthquake is one of the most serious natural disasters. Because of its sudden nature, the traditional earthquake prediction method is often difficult to predict it accurately, and has always been a difficult problem in the field of earth science. Recently, artificial intelligence is showing promise in earthquake prediction, challenging the long-held belief that it is impossible. Researchers at the University of Texas, Austin, have developed an AI algorithm (算法) that correctly predicted 70% of earthquakes a week in advance during a trial in China and provided accurate strength calculations (强度计算) for the predicted earthquakes.
The research team believes their method succeeded because they used a relatively simple machine learning approach. The AI was provided with a set of statistical features based on the team's knowledge of earthquake physics (地震物理学), and then instructed to train itself using a five-year database of earthquake recordings. Once trained, the Al provided its prediction by listening for signs of incoming earthquakes within the background sounds in the Earth.
This work is clearly a milestone in research for AI-driven earthquake prediction. "You don't see earthquakes coming," explains Alexandros Savvaidis, a senior research scientist who leads the Texas Seismological Network Program (TexNet). "It's a matter of milliseconds, and the only thing you can control is how prepared you are. Even with the 70% accuracy, that's a huge result and could help minimize economic and human losses and possibly improve earthquake preparation worldwide."
While it is unknown whether the same approach will work at other locations, the researchers are confident that their AI algorithm could produce more accurate predictions if used in areas with reliable earthquake tracking networks. The next step is to test artificial intelligence in Texas, since UT's Bureau TexNet has locations and over six years worth of continuous records, making it an ideal location in 300 earthquakes for these purposes.
Eventually, the authors hope to combine the system with physics-based models. This strategy could prove especially important where data is poor or lacking. "That may be a long way off, but many advances such as this one, are what moves science forward," says Scott Tinker, the bureau's director.
(1)、What can we infer from the passage?A、AI can predict earthquakes accurately. B、AI is provided with accurate strength calculations. C、AI can prevent the potential earthquakes from coming. 4、Over the years, April Fools' Day has become larger than life. While it may be seen as just a bit of fun, there is more to jokes and humour than may be obvious, begging the question: are the jokes on the 1st of April a good or a bad idea?
Every year, individuals and newspapers present jokes on the 1st of April that may be funny, yet sometimes causing an unexpected upheaval. One radio announcement made in 1949, that a mile-wide swarm of wasps (一群黄蜂) was heading for Auckland, was taken a bit too seriously. The news even came with advice on how to prepare for the incoming insects, resulting in all residents walking outdoors tucking (塞) their trousers into their socks, wearing masks (面罩) as well as setting honey traps outside their doors.
What makes things funny? This is a million-dollar question and one that's not easily answered. First, it's influenced by the context, the culture, and personal opinions, meaning that it's not consistent (一致的) across populations. Besides, if a joke is violating (违反) a norm or rule, it's more likely to be regarded as funny. Such violations need to be harmless, as they can otherwise be considered unpleasant. In terms of personal experience, serious events may be considered funnier over time, while stubbing (踩) a toe, considered a small violation, would lose its comedic effect over time. Interestingly, people, children, in particular, have been found to be more likely to laugh when they are near others compared to when alone.
Jokes may not seem serious but can actually serve social functions like managing emotions and also be used to deal with matters in work. For example, studies have found that there is a meaningful function of humour in healthcare settings, as it strengthens the connection between medical staffs and patients as well as relieves stressful situations linked to end-of-life care among nursing professionals.
However, it's suggested that jokes be used cautiously. For example, David Letterman gained reputation (名声) for an interview he had done with Lindsay Lohan in 2013, when the audience had laughed loudly at his repeated questions about her going to receive treatment. However, 8 years later, his comments were seen as offensive (冒犯的). So it's important to ensure that any violations made are not significant enough to damage your future fame.
(1)、What does the underlined word "upheaval" probably mean in paragraph 2?A、Upset. B、Fun. C、Annoyance. D、Popularity.(2)、What can we learn about jokes from the passage?A、People's opinion of jokes differs. B、Jokes remain humorous all the time. C、Jokes can strengthen our connection. D、Children are more likely to laugh than adults.(3)、How does the author mainly share her understanding of jokes with us?A、By listing figures. B、By making comparisons. C、By giving examples. D、By answering questions.(4)、What's the purpose of the text?A、To tell us the function of jokes. B、To provide information about jokes. C、To help make up funny jokes. D、To propose telling jokes carefully. -

7、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Apollo was born in Burkina Faso, a country in Africa. It actually means "The Land of Honest People". He has always valued the virtue of honesty and he brought it with him when he opened a restaurant in the United Kingdom three years ago. He believes that there are honest people everywhere.
On a regular weekend, customers were pouring in by the thousands, and service was going smoothly. Midway through that busy weekend, three guys entered through the restaurant's door, evidently looking for seats and some food. It's possible that they arrived from out of town. There was a difference in their accents at the very least.
"Can we be served quickly? We have to catch the train." said one of them to a waiter.
It didn't take long for them to be served by the waiter. They enjoyed every bite. After the quick but delightful meal, the three friends were ready to pay the bill for their food. The entire cost of the food was £35. As the waiter approached their table, they gave their credit cards over. They were caught by surprise, however, when the waiter told them they could only pay in cash. After that, the waiter moved to another table to take orders.
When the waiter came back to collect their cash payment again, he found the three guys had gone missing without paying for their food. As a result, the waiter had no choice but to call Apollo, who was on holiday with his family.
When the waiter described what had happened, Apollo was extremely confused. He couldn't understand how, in today's world, a group of friends could walk into a restaurant, eat their meals, and then leave without paying. After a few days, there was still no sign that the three gentlemen would return to pay for their meal. Two weeks later, Apollo received an unexpected package. Obviously, it was sent by the three men.

Poor Kim lost his left arm in a terrible accident and was2. To cheer him up, his father made him join a judo (柔道) club. As the boy always wanted to learn judo, his father thought this would make him3.
Everyone wondered how a single armed boy could learn judo.4, the master happily accepted him. Kim practised nothing but a single stroke (一击). He was trained for all 8 months to master the single stroke. The boy was5 and sometimes annoyed as his master taught him only one stroke.
Yet, he said nothing. The boy mastered the stroke and grew in confidence as nobody could do that particular stroke better. The boy was6 by the master to compete in a judo championship tournament. Everyone7 Kim and his master. Even the boy was not sure why his master had chosen him.
To everyone's surprise, Kim easily8 six competitors with his single stroke. He struggled a bit in the semifinals but managed to win the match. Then the final match began. 20、The man who could see the future
The ability to predict the future is a rare talent. American author Isaac Asimov (1920—1992), one of the great science fiction writers of his age, had such a talent. Now that we're here, let's see what he got right.
Asimov thought computers would cause a revolution comparable to the induatrial revolution of the 19th century. Specifically, he said that "mobile computerized objects" would be an important part of everyday life. Here, he clearly predicted our world of smartphones, tables and other devices. He also had a great deal to say about space exploration.
How did Asimov develop his special sense of future developments? He read the newspapers and magazines sold in his parents' candy store. His scientific interest gained sharper focus at Columbia University in New York. Asimov went to study chemistry, but became bored with pure laboratory science. Instead, he thought hard about the social implications(作用) of science. He wanted to communicate his ideas to the public.
Asimov had his finger on the pulse(脉搏)of both scientific and social change. He had a clear vision of what was coming around the corner for humanity in his works like the Galactic Empire series(《银河帝国系列》). "His predictions are absolutely fascinating," Calum Chase, an English writer, told BBC News. "He was a genius."
A. As a smart boy, Asimov taught himself to read at the age of five.
B. Space exploration really can make our life more convenient and comfortable.
C. Back in 1983, he was asked to predict what the world would look like in 2019.
D. On the role that computing would play in the future, he was amazingly accurate.
E. Asimov has developed a great interest in computer programming since childhood.
F. As an author, his books would feature the theme of social change caused by technology.
G. The International Space Station proves his prediction that we would not simply visit space but seek to stay there.
