1、Here are four favorite books for young readers.
Miss Rumphius
Miss Rumphius dreams of living by the sea, traveling the world and making it a more beautiful place — and she does it in her own ways, living alone with her cat and sowing lupine (羽扇豆) seeds along the coast of Maine despite the local kids who call her "That Crazy Old Lady". Barbara Cooney based Miss Rumphius on a real person-Maine resident Hilda Hamlin, who was known as the "Lupine Lady" for her habit of sowing seeds. (For ages 5 to 8)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf. Then it became a hungry caterpillar who went into the hearts of kids everywhere. Eric Carle's charming story and beautiful pictures make The Very Hungry Caterpillar a classic for kids. (For ages 2 to 5)
The Napping House
It's a soft gray rainy day and everyone is asleep in the Napping House-but unfortunately, they are all trying to pile into the same bed, with unfortunate but funny results. This book by Audrey Wood (author) and Don Wood (illustrator) will put any kid to sleep-in the best possible way. (For ages 4 to 7)
Good Dog, Carl
Little Madeleine has a pretty great babysitter: a big friendly dog named Carl. Together, they go to the store and to the zoo, to parties and daycare classes. In this book, Alexandra Day lets readers form their own ideas about what's happening on each page. (For ages 1 to 4)

2、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Years ago, my daughter Hope was in a forth grade class with a group of children neighbourhood. Most of the children in Hope's class had at least one parent working in a factory. Hope loved her class and often told me stories of her classmates, including a boy named Robert who was in trouble a lot. He always stood in the corner for poor behavior in class. I volunteered to act as "the classroom mom", meaning brought snacks and planned parties and special outings for her class, even though I worked full-time as a social worker.
One day I saw Robert standing in the corner and asked the teacher if he could join our Mother's Day party. She refused, saying he needed to learn a lesson. I wasn't sure what he had done to make the teacher place him in the corner, but I felt sad for him as we ate cakes and played games while he continued to face the corner. After the party, I asked Hope what was wrong with Robert. "It seemed that he went to school only for basketball. He didn't listen to our teacher in class and he talked back. If you were his mother, I bet he wouldn't talk back," Hope said. I knew Robert's smother worked long hours in the paper-making factory. I knew she was a good woman, who found it hard to care for her four children alone. She tried her best, but I was sure there were days when she felt hopeless and was unable to manage it.
Hope said Robert often got angry in class when he didn't know the answer to a question and couldn't read as well as the other children. Hope's words struck me and made me think about whether I could help Robert on a one-to-one basis. His teacher allowed me to come two days a week during my lunch break and help Robert with reading. We read second grade-level books, the highest level he could master.

6、Most of us agree that life's real education happens outside the classroom. However, they are not the only ones. In fact, traveling is the best way to learn things. Here are some reasons why traveling is the best form of education.
You learn history. All that was really cool. However, nothing beats traveling to historic landmarks and exploring your way around a city's history and culture. When you visit museums, palaces and galleries, the entire nation's history comes out right in front of you. Learning about different dynasties, conflicts and changes is so much easier when you actually explore a nation.
You learn social skills. You may be shy and find it difficult to engage yourself socially. But traveling will change that as things like talking to strangers are not an option but a necessity during travels. Taking some social skill courses is useful. However, you can achieve it by traveling your way to a wonderful place on your own.
You learn to do new things. When you are traveling, you are forced to do plenty of new things. Therefore, you must learn to be able to adapt to a new learning environment in a very short time. It also helps in your overall learning as well.
Probably the most important aspect of education that travel helps is your education about yourself. By traveling, you realize your true potential, the things that you really enjoy and the person who you really are. Without travel, you probably have a very limited understanding of yourself. And you may even be completely unaware of your real personality.
A. You learn about yourself.
B. You learn a lot by chatting.
C. You are out of your comfort or familiar situation.
D. You'll learn much better than through such courses.
E. You can study about the major historical events in your history class.
F. Classrooms with teachers and textbooks are of course one way to learn.
G. This helps you meet a lot of new people and experience some exciting things.

7、The home of the future won't be completely different and we will be living in houses and flats just as we do today. But people will want to shape their homes to match their dreams. No two homes will be the same. People will be able to buy "house kits" containing a basic house structure, with movable walls, doors and windows. They will put together the different parts to create the home they want.
Many jobs that we do today will disappear, others will still exist but will change and new jobs will be created. Skilled workers such as builders, gardeners and electricians won't disappear because machines can't replace them. Teachers will still exist because students need human contact. But they will be using modern technology in class more and students will be working more at home. The medical technology revolution and space travel will create new jobs which we can only imagine today.
Space holidays will develop in the future, but these holidays won't be for everyone because they won't be cheap. Short space trips will develop first;then space hotels will orbit the earth where it will be possible to have a longer vacation. By the end of the next century, there will have been holiday centres on the moon with leisure facilities (休闲设施) for families.
Paper won't exist in the future. Instead, there will be epaper which people will be able to use over and over again. This will develop in order to save natural resources. Enewspapers and emagazines will replace traditional newspapers and magazines and we will download information and news articles from the Internet every day onto our reusable paper.
The laws of physics tell us that the Earth is going to disappear some time in the future. This isn't going to happen tomorrow but scientists predict that it will happen in five billion years when our sun explodes. We will have to explore the universe and find another home. At some point in the distant future, either we stay on the Earth and die with it, or we leave and move to another planet. There won't be any other choice.

B、They will be the best holiday options for families. C、They will attract a lot of people. D、They will be still only for very rich people.(4)、Why will epaper replace traditional paper?A、Because it will be a symbol of fashion. B、Because it won't waste natural resources. C、Because it will be cheaper to produce. D、Because it will be convenient to carry. -
8、Yellowstone National Park, located in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, was established as the first national park in the United States. The park is a popular destination for visitors who enjoy ecological tourism as it offers forests, mountains, and many ecosystems to explore. Some of Yellowstone's most well-known landmarks are its geothermal hot springs and geysers, the most famous of which is named Old Faithful.

Lisa was blown away by a family of grizzly bears, some gray wolves, and even bald eagles flying overhead. Unexpectedly, she seemed to quite enjoy being in such a great place. They were well protected.
Since Yellowstone contains many hot springs and the world's largest area of active geysers, Lisa and her friends visited many different geyser sites. Of all of the sites, Lisa and her friends agreed that Old Faithful was the most fascinating. Lisa and her friends waited patiently for the geyser to erupt. After about 40 minutes, a stream of boiling water over 100 feet tall sprayed from the ground and up into the air. Luckily, no one got wet!

9、"With the passing of Chinese scientist Yuan Longping, China and the world have lost one greatest agricultural scientists," said Kenneth Quinn, president of the World Food Prize Foundation (基金会). Quinn also shared his memory of the "father of hybrid rice" in an interview with Xinhua on Sunday.
Quinn first met Yuan in October 2004, when Yuan traveled to Des Moines in the U.S. state of Iowa to receive the World Food Prize. As they walked out of the airport, Quinn received a call and stepped aside to speak. When he turned back a minute or two later, he lost Yuan. "I had never before ‘lost' a laureate (贵人)," he said. After an anxious search, he found Professor Yuan surrounded by a group of smiling graduate students from Iowa State University who so admired him that they wanted to take him off for a meal and conversation.
Quinn admired Yuan as a teacher. "He always had time to answer questions and speak with young scientists and students. The American high school students we sent to his research center each year always returned filled with knowledge and a deep desire to learn more."
In Quinn's eyes, Yuan was incredibly modest, never seeking fame, and focused only on hard work and results that could help lift people out of poverty. With a ‘down to earth' attitude, Yuan greatly reduced hunger and provided farmers with surplus (多余的) income through his discovery of hybrid rice.
Learning of Yuan's passing away on Saturday, Quinn issued a statement to send his deepest sympathy to Yuan's family and colleagues. "Professor Yuan Longping, who was truly beloved in his country and by all of us who knew him, will be greatly missed. So he took the bird in his hands, carried it carefully home and showed it to his parents. At once, his parents took action. They washed the bird and found it injured. With the help of his parents, Albert dressed the wound. But it would need time and care for the bird to completely recover. As the bird had become dear to his heart, Albert immediately offered to care for the bird.
Albert named his new friend "Lucky". He began to feed the bird and he even ran out to collect grass to build a soft nest for the bird. Then, he put the nest beside his bed. Albert and the bird were sleeping together and living together. Soon they became close friends. Albert always told it about his experiences in school and his secrets. Lucky, an extremely patient audience, usually responded to him with a few nods and chirps (叽叽喳喳声). Albert's parents also loved Lucky. They regarded it as a family member.
In the course of time, Lucky gradually recovered and started to hop (脚跳) and jump a little bit and exercise its wings. That made everyone happier. Soon it would be able to fly. How wonderful!
But what then? Albert became thoughtful and started to think. "If Lucky started to fly, it could simply fly away one day." But that would not happen.
