There are two ways to forget about troubles in life: music and cats.

At the Hey Cat Cafe in Wuhan, Hubei Province, you can have both. About 30 furry creatures, each wearing a red burp cloth with its name on it, welcome and "serve" the guests. The "employees" are all stray(流浪的) black. cats, most of whom were rescued by caring people after being abandoned by their owners.

Opened in September 2021, the cafe is one of the first nonprofit cat cafes in China. Manager Du Fan told China Daily that all the profits are used to help homeless animals.

The 41-year-old said he opened the black cat cafe to dispel(消除) the myth that such cats are "inauspicious", as described in some movies and TV dramas Over the past 17 years, a lot of people have come to Du to ad opt cats, but many said they didn't want black cats. "Actually, in traditional Chinese culture, black cats can drive away evil spirits and bring luck. They should be mascots(吉祥物)," he said. So are black cats as reserved and mysterious as folk tales suggest? Well, perhaps not.

Hearing two young women open the door, six or so passionate "cafe workers" waited and greeted them. When the visitors sat down, one cat rubbed against the bottom of one woman's pants, while another climbed onto her knee. Some of the cats simply fell asleep against the guests 'legs.

While these cats are rescued, they also help people with developmental or social anxiety disorders learn to open their hearts. "Cats possess certain qualities that humans don't have, "Du added. "Many people with psychological problems can find comfort in cats."

When people wanted to find their way to a place in the past, they used to have to buy a map. They don't have to do that any more. Now they can either buy a GPS, or go online and find maps for just about anywhere.

Is this an improvement? Perhaps, but some people think some of the online companies are going too far, because they have been sending out cars with photographic equipment on their roofs, to photograph every street and house in the country.

One of these cars arrived on a Wednesday morning in the quiet English village of Broughton. The camera was on a metre-high pole on top of the car and could see over walls and into people's gardens. Some of the villagers came and stood around the car, and asked the driver and photographer to go away. Journalists quickly arrived on the scene, and soon the event was news all over the country.

Of course, the online company in question claims that it is simply collecting information that people on the Internet want. But Broughton residents feel differently. "We used to have privacy in this country. Now companies just come. and take photographs of our homes without even asking," said one resident. "It's not right. We mustn't let this happen. We mustn't lose our right to live privately."

There is, of course, no law to prevent people from taking photographs of houses, so the residents cannot go to court. But many people are asking the question: OK, it's legal, but is it right? This is a question that won't go away very quickly.

Beijing was the first Chinese city to be equipped with a subway station in 1971. By the end of 2020, Beijing subway had had 24 subway lines in operation, 428 subway stations, and covered a total route length of 727 kilometers.

The prices of Beijing subway tickets are based on distance traveled, starting from 3 yuan for the first 6 kilometers (4 miles) except the Airport Express. After 6 km, the price increases by 1 yuan for each further 6 km until the trip distance reaches 30 km(20 miles).So, a 40-km(25-mile) trip would also cost 7 yuan.

Airport Express Subway Ticket Prices

The Capital Airport Express ticket price is fixed at 25 yuan per ride. The prices of Daxing Airport Express are divided into different classes. The ordinary class price varies with distance from 10 yuan to 35 yuan and the business class price is fixed at 50 yuan per ride.

How to Buy the Tickets

In Beijing, most passengers pay for their tickets by Transportation Smart Card (Yikatong). Passengers can buy the card or tickets at ticket counters or vending machines in every station. If you are going to stay in Beijing for a long time, the Smart Card is much better for your transit in Beijing. Since 2017, single-trip tickets can be purchased with a mobile phone app.

An old and fragile woman approached a very busy road intersection. She stepped slowly forwards. She paused at the sidewalk's edge, grasping a heavy bucket filled with fresh red apples. She aimed to cross the street. 

The way to the intersection before her seemed like a tough journey. The traffic lights changed regularly, and the flow of cars seemed to be non-stop for the old woman. She knew she had to cross the street to reach her destination, a small grocery store on the other side, where she sold her apples to make ends meet. 

As she slowly made her way to the crosswalk, she held the handle of the bucket. A kindhearted driver in the first car, recognizing her struggle, stopped well before the sidewalk, allowing her to cross safely. Grateful for this act of kindness, the old woman nodded and offered the driver a slight smile as she inched forward. 

A second car, in the next road, also came to a stop. Its driver also witnessed the old woman's slow progress. The kindness of strangers warmed her heart, and with their help, she moved another step closer to her destination, 

However, the third road was a different story. As the old woman moved carefully further into the road, a speeding car approached, its engine making loud sound like a beast. Panic flowed through the old lady as she realized the approaching danger. The driver of the third car had not noticed her until the very last moment. 

With a jolt (颠簸) of terror, the old woman's holding on the bucket weakened, and the bucket slipped from her weak grasp. The bucket fell to the ground, releasing its goods of apples, which scattered (散开) in all directions. The sound of the crashing bucket and rolling apples echoed through the busy city traffic. 

In the emergent time, the driver of the speeding car stepped on the brake to a stop just inches from the old woman. The drivers' heart pounded in their chest as they realized how close it had come to a tragedy.

Dogs may have earned the title of our best friends through their interactions with humans，but now researchers say these social skills could be present shortly after birth rather than being learned. 

To better understand the role of biology in dogs' abilities to communicate with humans, the researchers studied 375 eight-week-old service dogs. They looked at how these dogs performed in a series of tasks designed to measure their communication skills. The puppies were still living with their littermates(同窝出生者) and had not been sent to live with a volunteer puppy raiser，making it unlikely that they had learned about his or her behavior.

In the first task，a person hid a treat beneath one of two overturned cups and pointed to it to see if the puppy could follow the gesture. Since dogs are good at using noses to find things，a treat was also taped to the insides of both cups. In the second task，puppies watched as the researchers placed a yellow block next to the correct cup，instead of pointing to indicate where the puppy should look for the food. 

The third task was designed to observe puppies' tendency to look at human faces. There searchers spoke to the puppy in a voice people sometimes use when talking to a baby. They then measured how long the puppy fixed a stare on the human.

In the last task，researchers sealed a treat inside a closed container and presented it to the puppy. They then measured how often the puppy looked to the human for help in opening the container. 

The study found that while many of the puppies were responsive to humans' physical and verbal cues，very few looked to humans for help with the unsolvable task. Researchers said, "This suggests that while puppies may be born knowing how to respond to human-initiated communication，the ability to initiate communication on their own may come later. "The next step will be to see if specific genes that may contribute to dogs' abilities to communicate with humans can be identified.

The hippocampus(海马体)is a region of the brain associated with memory and involved in sense of direction. And a nearby region has also been associated with sense of direction. There are four known types of navigation-related neurons(神经元)found in these regions: place cells，grid cells，border cells and head direction cells. 

In short，you can think of place cells as an internal cognitive(认知的)map; they identify where you are. Grid cells are like a GPS system in our brain; they tell us about the relationship of this place to other places we've been to. Border cells respond to the presence of environmental boundaries at a specific direction and distance from us. Lastly，head direction cells are activated when our head faces a specific direction. These cells will fire electrical impulses when we enter familiar locations，with each group of cells relating to a specific place. 

Our reliance on GPS and smartphones may have decreased the ability to use our internal maps. Older adults who regularly used GPS had less activity in their hippocampus，compared with those who did not use GPS. They also performed slightly worse in a cognition test. In contrast，a study involving London taxi drivers found they had significantly larger hippocampus than ordinary people.

During World War Ⅱ，Duchess Nina Douglas-Hamilton played a vital role in looking after animals.

Duchess Nina worked with local farmers and animal owners to relocate animals to safer areas，such as the Scottish Highlands. She also established a network of volunteers who helped to care for animals during the war. She organized feeding programs，medical care and transportation，ensuring that animals were well looked after even during the most difficult times. The most challenging aspect of her work was the shortage of food during the war. So she established a vegetable garden and used leftovers to create nutritious meals for animals. She also reached out to the public for donations of food and supplies，and was able to secure enough resources to keep animals healthy and fed. 

In addition to her work with domestic animals，Duchess Nina was also a strong advocate for wildlife conservation. She established a center for wild animals in Scotland，where she provided a safe place for deer，foxes and other animals that were threatened by the war. She also worked with local protection groups to protect natural habitats. 

Duchess Nina's work during World War II was not without its risks. She frequently risked her life to save animals, often driving through perilous areas. 

Sadly, some people saw her efforts as a distraction from the war effort. However, she continued to work tirelessly for animals. After the war, Duchess Nina's work was recognized by the government and she got an important award for her services to animals.
