There is a very important festival in China.

For Chinese people,it's the new beginning of a year.We have a seven-day holiday. Red is everywhere in the holiday.And you can see the dragon dance and the lion dance on the street,too.

We will do lots of great things.My parents are going to clean the house before the festival. They will buy new clothes and candies for me,too. My family will get together and have a big dinner. My mum will make dumplings,my dad will give us lucky money in the red pocket.My grandparents will tell a story about this festival.We are not going to sleep till the next day.Because it will bring good wishes (祝福). We are going to wear our new clothes and visit our friends.What a great festival!

Once there was an old man in China.He was 90 years old.His name was Yu Gong. He lived behind two high mountains,Taihang Mountain and Wangwu Mountain.When his family and he wanted to go out,they had to walk a long way around the mountains.

One day,Yu Gong said to his family, "I'm    going    to    remove    the    two    mountains. We must work together."His wife said,"You are so old,Yu Gong.How can you do that?And where can you throw so many rocks?"

"I can throw them into Bohai Sea,"Yu Gong said.

A man named Zhi Sou laughed at Yu Gong, "You are so old.You can't remove the high mountains!"

"You're wrong,"Yu Gong smiled."Look, I have sons.My sons have their sons.The family grows.But the mountains can't grow higher."

The Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝)learnt of Yu Gong's story and was very happy.He asked another two gods to take the two high mountains away.

Spring Festival just passed.Did you get together with all of your family members during the holiday?  Family members not only gather during holidays,but often live under one roof year-round.However,different cultures have different family values.Families in the East and West are very different from each other.

In most East Asian cultures,extended families(大家庭)are common.These families have three or even four generations(世代)living together.According to the Atlantic,90percentof children in Shanghai and 70 percent of children in Beijing were being cared for by grandparents.  

In many Western countries,most families are nuclear families. The duties parents have toward their children can also be different.

In China,many parents look after their children all the way into adulthood.It's normal for parents to pay for their children's college, help them find a job,or buy them an apartment. 

In most western countries,however, kids usually move out of the house after they turn 18.Many of them get loans(贷款)and work part-time jobs in order to pay for college and rent.If they choose to keep living with their parents after becoming an adult,it can be seen as a failure on their part.

While the East cares more about close family bonds,the West values privacy and independence.  Families will always be a source of love,warmth and care for people around the world.

My name's Cindy Smith.I'm an American girl.  Chengdu is a big and beautiful city(城市). I love it very much.

I'm 13 now. It's Children's Day that day.Do you think it's very interesting?My families have a birthday party for me at home every year.  We play games and do some fun things at the party.Then we eat my birthday cake.We always have a good time at the party.

If you travel abroad for the first time,you should know something about what you should do or prepare.Here are some suggestions(建议) for you.

Before you start your trip,make sure that you have a passport—a kind of ID card to go abroad. And you should learn something about the culture of the country you are going to visit.

Second,learn some of the language. Few people    can    learn    a    new    language    in    a    very    short time. If you travel to a new country,learning some easy words will make the trip easy and comfortable.

Knowing something about the transportation system(交通系统)is also important for your trip. When you first arrive in a foreign country,the first thing you should do is to find a place to stay in.Find out how to get to the hotel and how much money it will cost.

Finally,exchange money before going abroad.It is convenient (方 便的) for you when you buy food and other things abroad.

If everything is ready,you are sure to have a nice trip.

The weekend is coming.Mr.and Mrs.Red want to go hiking on the mountain this weekend. They bought a lot of things for hiking three days ago.

Wang Yaping,China's second woman taikonaut(中国航天员).

She was born in January,1980 in Shandong.

She joined the army(军队)when she was 17.

Her space dream started in 2003 when China sent its first taikonaut Yang Liwei into space.

Then she worked very hard.And in 2010 she became a candidate(候选人)for China's first woman taikonaut.But she didn't pass all the tests.Liu Yang became the first woman taikonaut into space.

In 2013,she flew into space with Nie Haisheng and Zhang Xiaoguang in Shenzhou X.She was the first China space teacher.The lesson lasted for about 40 minutes.

Eight years later,she gave another space lesson in China's space station.

She made history because she is the first Chinese woman to walk in space.We are very proud of her.
