Yuan Longping is a great scientist. He is the "Father of Hybrid Rice" in China. In 1930, he was born(出生) in Beijing. In 1939, his family went to Chongqing and lived there. He studied in the university there from 1949 to 1953. Then he went to Hunan and worked as a teacher from 1953 to 1971.

He had many hobbies. He liked playing the violin and swimming. He could speak English well.

When he was young, he saw lots of people starving. People couldn't eat rice every day.Sometimes they ate grass or leaves! He wanted to help them.

In 1960, he found(发现) a special rice plant—— hybrid rice. He studied it for a few years. In 1973, he planted the rice successfully. There's more and more rice and the hybrid rice can grow in other countries, too.

Hua Mulan lived happily with her family. But one day, her father was ordered to join the army.

"I must go," said Mulan's father. "You're too old. Please don't go," said Mulan.

Then Mulan dressed in men's clothes to the army. No one knew she was a girl. The war lasted for 12 long years. It was dangerous but she was brave.

The king wanted to make Mulan an official(官员). But she went back home with some other soldiers(士兵). When Mulan arrived home, her family was very happy to see her.Then she changed into women's clothes. The soldiers were very surprised!

56-year-old Zhai Zhigang is an experienced astronaut. Born(出生) in October 1966, he is the first Chinese astronaut to conduct a spacewalk(太空行走).In 2008, he became China's first to walk in space(太空). He commands the Shenzhou XM mission.

There's also a woman on the mission, 42-year-old Wang Yaping. She is the mother of a 7-year-old girl. She is the first female(女性) astronaut to work in China's space station.

Ye Guangfu was born in 1980. He became a member of China's second group of astronauts in 2010. It is his first time to visit China's space. He speaks English very well.

There is a man. He is very rich. But he is foolish. Other people often laugh at him. On a sunny day, he visits Mr Zhang. He likes the three-storey(三层楼的) house of Mr Zhang very much. He thinks the view from the third floor is very good. He wants to have one too. The next day, he finds a craftsman. "Please build me a house like MrZhang's," he says to the craftsman.

After a period of time, the man goes to check the progress. He feels very angry. "No!I only need the top floor. I don't need the two lower floors. Remove them at once!" The craftsman laughs out loud, "Only the top floor? I can't do it. You have to do it by yourself!"
