In the old days,people usually travelled by horse when they wanted to go a long way. A man named Ming lived in the countryside. One day,his mother said to him,"Your uncle is very ill and he needs this medicine.You must take it to him quickly.Your uncle lived in the town .It's a long way from our house. It will take you two days to get there on a horse."

In most East Asian cultures,extended families(大家庭)are common.These families have three or even four generations(世代)living together.According to the Atlantic,90percentof children in Shanghai and 70 percent of children in Beijing were being cared for by grandparents.  

In many Western countries,most families are nuclear families. The duties parents have toward their children can also be different.

In China,many parents look after their children all the way into adulthood.It's normal for parents to pay for their children's college, help them find a job,or buy them an apartment. 

In most western countries,however, kids usually move out of the house after they turn 18.Many of them get loans(贷款)and work part-time jobs in order to pay for college and rent.If they choose to keep living with their parents after becoming an adult,it can be seen as a failure on their part.

While the East cares more about close family bonds,the West values privacy and independence.  Families will always be a source of love,warmth and care for people around the world.

It's 5:00 in the afternoon—time to go home.  But he cannot find his hat (帽子). It's a yellow hat. He     sees a boy near the hats and coats.He is Jim. ""Lee says.Jim says he doesn't,     and he is glad to help Lee.

My name's Cindy Smith.I'm an American girl.  Chengdu is a big and beautiful city(城市). I love it very much.

If you travel abroad for the first time,you should know something about what you should do or prepare.Here are some suggestions(建议) for you.

Before you start your trip,make sure that you have a passport—a kind of ID card to go abroad. And you should learn something about the culture of the country you are going to visit.

Second,learn some of the language. Few people    can    learn    a    new    language    in    a    very    short time. If you travel to a new country,learning some easy words will make the trip easy and comfortable.

Knowing something about the transportation system(交通系统)is also important for your trip. When you first arrive in a foreign country,the first thing you should do is to find a place to stay in.Find out how to get to the hotel and how much money it will cost.

Finally,exchange money before going abroad.It is convenient (方 便的) for you when you buy food and other things abroad.

If everything is ready,you are sure to have a nice trip.

The weekend is coming.Mr.and Mrs.Red want to go hiking on the mountain this weekend. They bought a lot of things for hiking three days ago.

Wang Yaping,China's second woman taikonaut(中国航天员).

She was born in January,1980 in Shandong.

She joined the army(军队)when she was 17.

Her space dream started in 2003 when China sent its first taikonaut Yang Liwei into space.

Then she worked very hard.And in 2010 she became a candidate(候选人)for China's first woman taikonaut.But she didn't pass all the tests.Liu Yang became the first woman taikonaut into space.

In 2013,she flew into space with Nie Haisheng and Zhang Xiaoguang in Shenzhou X.She was the first China space teacher.The lesson lasted for about 40 minutes.

Eight years later,she gave another space lesson in China's space station.

She made history because she is the first Chinese woman to walk in space.We are very proud of her.

Did you watch the closing ceremony(典礼) of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games?Which part moved you most?

Many people would say the"willow twig (柳枝)".To the song Songbie,365 people carried glowing willow twigs in their hands.This showed "a bittersweet (苦乐参半的)goodbye"in a traditional and special Chinese way.In Chinese, the word for willow,"liu",sounds like the word for"stay".So in the old days,when two friends parted (离别),the travelling friend got a willow twig as a present.It was not "goodbye"but"see you again soon".

Many other traditional Chinese things were also parts of the Winter Games.There were 12 animal carts (手推车)in the closing ceremony.This idea came from the Chinese zodiac(十二生肖).And on Feb.4,the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games was held.The day was also Lichun,the first of the 24 Chinese solar terms (节气) . It shows the awakening(苏醒)of everything and the end of the cold.

More and more people like bicycling(骑自 行车)and it is no surprise.It is fun,healthy and good for the environment.Maybe that's why there are 1.4 billion bicycles and only 400 million cars on roads worldwide today.Bikes can take you almost anywhere,and there is no oil cost!

Get on a bicycle and ride around your neighbourhood.You may discover something new all around you.Stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of your car.You can bike to work and benefit( 受 益)from the enjoyable exercise without polluting the environment.You don't even have to ride all the way.

Folding(折叠)bikes work well for people who ride the train.Just fold the bike and take it 

with you.You can do the same on an airplane.A folding bike can be packed in a suitcase.You can also take a common bike with you when you fly.But be sure to look for information by getting on airline websites.Not all airlines are bicycle-friendly to travellers.

People sometimes like to read stories of dogs very much.They think that dogs are much cleverer than cats,sheep,cows or other animals.

One of my close friends,Wang Jian,has a very big police dog named Jack.Every Sunday afternoon,he and Jack have a walk in the park nearby.Jack likes walking very much.One Sunday afternoon,I paid a visit to my friend.

I stayed there for a long time and my friend and I had much more talk with each other than ever before.Soon it was time for them to take a walk in the park.We forgot that.Jack became worried about it.He walked around the room several times and then sat down in front of me and looked at me.But I still paid no attention(注意)to him.I went on talking with my friend.At last,Jack could not wait any longer.He went out of the room and came back a few minutes later.He sat down in front of me again.But this time,he held my hat in his mouth.Suddenly,I understood what Jack meant (用意)and so did my friend.

Mr.Black's dog,Rover,follows him wherever he goes.When Mr.Black goes to work,he waits outside the office.After supper,they go for a walk in the park.Rover is Mr.Black's good companion.

When Rover wants to play,he runs in circles around Mr.Black,barking and jumping on him.Mr.Black never gets angry.He likes to talk and play with Rover.

Mr.Black lives alone and Rover helps to take care of him.He gets up early each day and licks(舔)Mr.Black on his hand to wake him up. Rover sits at his owner's feet,having his dog food while Mr.Black eats his breakfast and listens to the radio.

The two of them are together all the time.
