Lucas is a Grade 5 student. He likes English very much, but he has trouble remembering new words. Every time he learns a new chunk, an old one falls out of his head. He is very worried and doesn't know what to do.

His friend Mulan tells him three good tips. First, he can make word cards with pictures and carry them with him. Second, he can practise the chunks with his deskmate every day. Third, he should learn only 5 to 10 new words every day. Lucas tries these tips. After two weeks, he can remember more words than before. He is very happy and decides to keep using these ways.

Many students think learning English words is hard. But there are some good ways to make it easier.

First, learn words in chunks. A chunk is a group of words, like "turn on the light" or "look up the word". It's much easier to remember a chunk than a single word. Second, use pictures to help you. You can draw a small picture next to the word on your word card. Third, learn a little every day. Don't try to learn 50 words in one day. Spend 10 to 20 minutes reading English every day, and you will remember more words.
