Animals protect themselves from danger in many different ways. Some animals changes colours so other animals cannot see them. The white-faced owl is a bird that has an interesting way to scare away other animals. White-faced owls change their shape when they meet dangerous animals. For example, if the owl sees another animal that is the same size, the owl will puff its feathers and wings so that it looks really big. But if this owl sees a large bird, it will make itself look very thin, as if it is sick. These owls pretend to be sick and thin so that larger birds will not want to eat them.

The first "forest library" in Shanghai opened to the public on February 20, 2023, giving readers the chance to relax and read in nature.

Known as Read & Joy Forest, the forest library is in a green space area near Shanghai Library East. People can take a pleasant walk in the quiet and green forest. Readers can sit on the benches under the trees and read. At the same time, they can enjoy the beautiful scenery(风景) and sunshine.

Group 1: Smartphone(智能手机)

Thirty years ago, there were no smartphones. People could only send messages(信息) or make calls with phones. Now people can see films, have classes online(线上) and buy things online with a smartphone anytime and anywhere. If you want to call a taxi, have a meal, go shopping or book a hotel, you can pay with it. That's cool.

Group 2: High-speed rail(高铁)

Before 2003, there was no high-speed rail in China. People could travel by bus, train or plane. Now, people often go to different cities by high-speed rail. It goes much faster than a car. It takes us about 4 hours and a half from Beijing to Shanghai.

Before 2014, there were no shared bikes. People went on foot, by bus or taxi. Now, there are shared bikes. The bikes wait for you on the street. Going by shared bikes is good exercise.And it's a green way to go out, too. It is fun and cool.

Group 4: City Study

Before 2017, there weren't so many City Studies in Shandong Province. People often read books in the bookstore or library. Now there are more and more City Studies all over Shandong.Weihai is the first city to build City Studies. There are more than forty City Studies now. They keep open till late in the evening.

Mike:How did you get there?

Ann: We got there by the No.106bus.

Ann:Yes, we bought some fresh fruit and some beautiful flowers for them.

Ann:We sang Chinese songs and danced for them. We also help them clean the room and wash the clothes. We help them water the flowers.

Ann: Yes, we were tired, but we felt very happy.
