Did you watch the closing ceremony(典礼) of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games?Which part moved you most?

Many people would say the"willow twig (柳枝)".To the song Songbie,365 people carried glowing willow twigs in their hands.This showed "a bittersweet (苦乐参半的)goodbye"in a traditional and special Chinese way.In Chinese, the word for willow,"liu",sounds like the word for"stay".So in the old days,when two friends parted (离别),the travelling friend got a willow twig as a present.It was not "goodbye"but"see you again soon".

Many other traditional Chinese things were also parts of the Winter Games.There were 12 animal carts (手推车)in the closing ceremony.This idea came from the Chinese zodiac(十二生肖).And on Feb.4,the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Games was held.The day was also Lichun,the first of the 24 Chinese solar terms (节气) . It shows the awakening(苏醒)of everything and the end of the cold.

More and more people like bicycling(骑自 行车)and it is no surprise.It is fun,healthy and good for the environment.Maybe that's why there are 1.4 billion bicycles and only 400 million cars on roads worldwide today.Bikes can take you almost anywhere,and there is no oil cost!

Get on a bicycle and ride around your neighbourhood.You may discover something new all around you.Stopping and getting off a bike is easier than stopping and getting out of your car.You can bike to work and benefit( 受 益)from the enjoyable exercise without polluting the environment.You don't even have to ride all the way.

Folding(折叠)bikes work well for people who ride the train.Just fold the bike and take it 

with you.You can do the same on an airplane.A folding bike can be packed in a suitcase.You can also take a common bike with you when you fly.But be sure to look for information by getting on airline websites.Not all airlines are bicycle-friendly to travellers.

Health Benefits of Bicycling:

·It helps to prevent(阻挡)heart diseases (疾病).

·Bicycling helps to control your weight.A 15-minute bike ride to and from work three times a week burns off five kilos of fat in a year.

·Bicycling can improve your mood( 心 情). Exercise like bicycling has been shown to make people feel better,more relaxed and self-confident.

·Bicycling is healthier than driving.

People sometimes like to read stories of dogs very much.They think that dogs are much cleverer than cats,sheep,cows or other animals.

One of my close friends,Wang Jian,has a very big police dog named Jack.Every Sunday afternoon,he and Jack have a walk in the park nearby.Jack likes walking very much.One Sunday afternoon,I paid a visit to my friend.

I stayed there for a long time and my friend and I had much more talk with each other than ever before.Soon it was time for them to take a walk in the park.We forgot that.Jack became worried about it.He walked around the room several times and then sat down in front of me and looked at me.But I still paid no attention(注意)to him.I went on talking with my friend.At last,Jack could not wait any longer.He went out of the room and came back a few minutes later.He sat down in front of me again.But this time,he held my hat in his mouth.Suddenly,I understood what Jack meant (用意)and so did my friend.

Mr.Black's dog,Rover,follows him wherever he goes.When Mr.Black goes to work,he waits outside the office.After supper,they go for a walk in the park.Rover is Mr.Black's good companion.

When Rover wants to play,he runs in circles around Mr.Black,barking and jumping on him.Mr.Black never gets angry.He likes to talk and play with Rover.

Mr.Black lives alone and Rover helps to take care of him.He gets up early each day and licks(舔)Mr.Black on his hand to wake him up. Rover sits at his owner's feet,having his dog food while Mr.Black eats his breakfast and listens to the radio.

The two of them are together all the time.

Mr.Black can not imagine life without his pet.He needs him to go around.Rover is his pair of eyes.

Chinese people always say,"He who doesn't get to the Great Wall is not a true man."The Great Wall is the longest wall in the world.It is about 6,000 kilometres long,7 metres high and 5 metres wide.People built the Great Wall more than two thousand years ago.The wall was first built in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period(春秋战国时期). The wall became the "Great"wall in the Qin Dynasty( 朝 代). But the Great Wall we see today was built in the Ming Dynasty.It starts from Shanhaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west.It was very hard to build such a great wall without any modern machines (现代化机器). Thousands of men died when they were building the wall

Everyone knows that exercise is important.

We all need to exercise.Doctors say it is good for us.It makes our body strong.When the daytime comes,we must get up.This is the time for exercise.Exercise means doing things with the body.Children who often exercise are more active.This means they do better in tests and schoolwork than those who don't exercise.

There are many ways to exercise.You can walk,run,swim,skate or play ball games. Make sure you exercise in the following ways: You have to like what you're doing.Exercise enough but not too much.It's best to exercise twice a week. Thirty minutes each time is enough.Try all kinds of sports until you find one,two or even three that are right for you.

You can exercise at fitness    centres.They have a lot of equipment ( 设 备 ) there.The equipment will help to exercise your arms,legs and other parts of your body to make you strong. Some people buy equipment for their homes.But it is very expensive.

Exercising can be fun.Friends can exercise together at a fitness centre,or they can play sports together.How do you exercise?

Healthy eating doesn't just mean what you eat,but how you eat.Here is some advice on healthy eating.

Eat with others.It can help you to see others'healthy eating habits.If you usually eat with your parents,you will find that the food you eat is more delicious.

Listen to your body.Ask yourself if you are really hungry.Have a glass of water to see if you are thirsty,because sometimes you are just thirsty,you need no food.Stop eating before you feel full.

Eat breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.After you don't eat for the past ten hours,your body needs food to get you going.You will be smarter after eating breakfast.

Eat healthy snacks like fruit,yogurt or cheese.We all need snacks sometimes.In fact,it's a good idea to eat two healthy snacks between your three meals.But this doesn't mean that you can eat a bag of chips instead of a meal.

Don't eat dinner late.With our busy life, we always put off eating dinner until the last minute.Try to eat dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed.This will give your body a chance to digest most other food before you rest for the next 8—10 hours.

Mrs.Green had a small garden behind her house,and in the spring she planted some vegetables in it.She was happy.She looked after them very carefully,and when the summer came,they looked very nice.She was proud of the vegetables.

One evening,Mrs.Green looked at her vegetables and said,"Tomorrow I am going to pick(摘)you,my son likes you very much."     But early the next morning,her son ran into the kitchen and cried,"Mum!Mum!Come quickly!Our neighbour's(邻居的)ducks are in the garden,and they are eating our vegetables!"

Mrs.Green ran out,but it was too late.

All the vegetables were finished!Mrs.Green was sad,and her neighbour was very sorry,but that was the end of the vegetables.Then a few days before the New Year,the neighbour brought Mrs.Green a parcel(包裹). Mrs.Green was surprised.In it was a basket of vegetables, and on it was a piece of paper with the words, "ENJOY(享用)YOUR VEGETABLES!"

The elephant is the largest of all animals that live on land.An elephant's trunk(象鼻) is rather like an arm and a hand.It is used to pick up and put things in its mouth.It is also used to pull up trees when the elephant wants to make a path(道路)through the forests.

The African elephant is usually larger than the Indian elephant.It often stands 10 or 11 feet high,and weighs over 6 tons (吨). Both males (雄性)and females grow tusks(象牙).But only male Indian elephants have tusks.

The elephant lives mostly on grass,leaves and fruits.It has been easy for men to train elephants.They are used to carry heavy things. Elephants can live for about fifty years or more.

Ants are almost everywhere!We usually feel angry about them.But these little ones can teach us something.

Never Give Up(放弃)

Ants don't sit down or become sad when something is in front of them.One day,I watched a small ant taking a bug(虫子). A big leaf was in its way.But the ant didn't give up.It worked very hard.Finally,the ant got the bug over the leaf and into the nest(巢穴).

Always Plan for the Future(未来)

Ants know there are seasons.They collect food and build nests in summer and autumn.When the cold winter days come,they usually stay in their warm nests.And they won't be hungry.

Work Together

Ants are small.Everyone has its job.But they also work well as a team.Because they know they can do so much together.

You see,we can learn a lot from ants.

Mother Kangaroo and a little white rabbit were neighbours. One day, they went to the zoo together. But the zoo was far away from their homes. So they had to wait for the bus. A gust of wind blew( 吹 )and the little white rabbit felt very cold. He said to Mother Kangaroo, "Mother Kangaroo, I'm very cold. Can I go into your pouch?" "Sure!" Mother Kangaroo said.

After getting on the bus, the little white rabbit didn't come out. For most people,the word"fashion" means"clothes".But people may ask the question,"What clothes are in fashion?"Of course there are fashions in many things,not only in clothes.There are fashions in holidays,in restaurants,in films and books.There are even fashions in school subjects,jobs …and in languages.Nowadays middle school students are very interested in basketball.Most teenagers like watching Korean soap operas and wearing Korean clothes.

Fashion changes as time goes.An English house of 1750 was different from one of 1650.A fashionable man in 1780 looked very different from his grandson in 1860.Mobile phone is a fashion now,but maybe it will be out of fashion later on. Today fashions change very quickly.Newspapers, radios,telephones and televisions send information from one country to another in a few hours.New fashions mean that people will buy new things,so you see there is money in fashion.

Do you know the Monkey King,the great hero of the Chinese story Journeyto the West?In the story,the Monkey King and his friends beat ( 打 败 )monsters and protect Xuanzang along their way.The Monkey King was born from a rock.He can change himself into a tree,an animal and other things.With one somersault(翻筋斗), he can travel 108,000 li.The Monkey King is clever and brave.Chinese people love him very much.The Monkey King is also popular in other countries.Many kids from other countries love him and learn kung fu because of him. They think he is a superhero,just like Superman and Spiderman.

Zhang Guimei was born in 1957 in Heilongjiang.She works in Yunnan now.In 2002,she built(创办)Lijiang Huaping Girl's Middle School (中学), it is a free ( 免 费 ) school for girls in the mountains.So many girls can study there.
