Every time I think of the card attached with a picture, it reminds me that success is important, but why not sometimes just admit the journey, regardless of success or failure, and show our approval? Our approval may bring us another story, while for others, another chapter of life.
One month ago, I was temporarily appointed to be in charge of a class, when they just finished an important exam. A boy walking out of the classroom with his friends greeted me happily. The sunny smile on his face showed his confidence in the exam. He was Mark, a top A student. During the following days, Mark impressed me with his optimism in class and after class.
One Monday morning, as I rushed towards my office, I encountered Mark. We greeted each other, but his " good morning" face wasn' t as bright as usual. " Maybe he doesn' t like Monday as much as I do. " I thought jokingly.
At the office, Mark' s less-than-enthusiastic look reminded me of his sunny smile. Recalling the first time we met, I drew a boy with a broad smile and sparkling eyes. As a new teacher, pupils like Mark were my favourite. Personally, they learned by heart, and always met our expectations. Moreover, they were easily satisfied. Even a simple " Well done!" could brighten their day. To encourage students, I had my own award system, including empty cards, where I would write three or four sentences of encouragement based on students' individual situations.
As I enjoyed the pleasure of getting a new idea, I heard a knock at the door. It was Mark, dragging his feet with his head down, " Madam, I' m upset. " His words amazed me. What could make such an excellent student so down? I asked if he had problems with his friends, but he shook his head. Concerned, I inquired if he was being bullied, but received the same response.
" Do your parents put pressure on you?" I wondered. As for this question, Mark' s voice began to tremble and he lowered his head again, whispering, " They trust me and expect me to get better and better. I had been doing my best but I got the third place in the exam. "

How to Boost Your Memory
The brain might be the place where memories are stored, and its memory capacity (容量) can be enlarged. Taking steps to improve your lifestyle in the following four areas will help keep your mind sharp.
● Exercise helps with the activity of brain cells and also helps reduce the risk of brain diseases. It also helps brain cells repair themselves and their connections to other brain cells. Memory can improve in both brain-healthy older adults and with mild brain disorder after a 12-week exercise program.
●Getting sugar from fruits and vegetables instead of products with added sugars is healthier for body and brain. Too much sugar restricts blood flow to the brain and can even cause brain illness. The real brain foods are those called the mind diet.
●Sleep is critical for memory formation, especially long-term memory formation. That' s because when you' re asleep, the brain, runs the tape of what it recorded during the day, gets rid of information that isn' t relevant and then stores other information for the long term. The more you can keep a regular sleep schedule, the better off your brain and the rest of you will be.
●Challenging your brain is of great benefit, too. Maybe you' re a crazy bridge player, a crossword puzzle lover or a regular lecturer. To get the most memory boost out of puzzles or intellectual activities, the key is to keep things fresh and challenging. New and challenging activities help form new pathways in the brain.
A. Exercise can build your body and improve your working efficiency.
B. Many lifestyle factors can have a positive effect on promoting your memory.
C. That' s why people diagnosed with sleep disorders are at higher risk of memory decline.
D. Regular physical activities protect memory and thinking skills.
E. All the mentally engaging activities can help keep our minds active.
F. It emphasizes brain healthy intake of nutrients instead of high calories or sugars.
G. Long-term memory is essential for students who need to master large amounts of knowledge.

If a president, a philosopher, and one of the best-selling writers told the same secret of their success, would you try to follow it too? What if the secret was something you already knew how to do? In fact, you probably do it every day. Here' s what Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: " It is only ideas gained from walking that have any worth. " Thomas Jefferson: " Walking is the best possible exercise. " Charles Dickens: " If I could not walk far and fast, I think I should just explode and die. "
Researchers have found quite a lot of connections between walking and producing ideas. A Stanford University study found that participants were 81 percent more creative when walking as opposed to sitting. According to the study, walking outside—compared with on a treadmill (跑步机)—produces the highest-quality ideas.
The movement aspect of walking is obviously key. Our creative thinking is triggered (触发) by physical movement, which is exactly why walking with your dog, a friend, or alone—feeds creative thinking.
The scenery is almost as important as the sweat. Breaking your routine with a walk can be acatalyst for fresh understanding of problems or projects. Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your familiar surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities. You can walk through a tree-filled neighborhood. You can walk through a park and observe people joking or birds singing. Being inside, you' re more likely to be lifeless, which means you don' t have enough energy to wonder or create.
So instead of setting a fitness goal, why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking? Involve yourself more closely in your surroundings. Turn off your phone and give yourself the chance to be present in the world, to hear conversations and natural sounds, and to notice the way people move and the way the sun reflects in a river.
