Adaptation and innovation (创新) of traditional opera is an important trend in Chinese opera circle in recent years. In order to attract young audience of new generation and catch up with the time, traditional opera circle makes efforts to create new works. In recent years, traditional opera has come across the change of time and society. It gradually lost the main elderly audience and was not attractive for the young.

In order to find new opportunities, using modern sound, light and digital stage effects, China's traditional Peking, also known as jingju, Opera is appealing to young people in a fashionable and innovative way, as the classic art faces an aging audience.

The centuries-old Tianleyuan Theater in Beijing has introduced fashionable performances of Peking Opera. The opera combines instrumental music, vocal performance, mime (哑剧表演), dance and acrobatics (杂技).

Tianleyuan has a jingju art experience section and fashionable performances. It has attracted more than 2,000 audience members, mostly young people, according to theater staff.

"Good art should keep pace with the times, so does jingju," said Zhang Zishang, a 22-year-old performer of The Drunken Beauty, one of the classic jingju plays performed in the theater. "I feel today's performance is very special," Zhang added. She was born into a family of jingju performers and has had 10 years of stage experience. "Innovation is good, but we must also carry on the basic elements of jingju," another young performer Deng said.

According to Deng, innovation is perhaps the best way for jingju to deal with the problem of an aging audience. It has made successful attempts to combine jingju with local opera forms such as ballet when organizing performances abroad. "Innovation can help traditional arts go further. We are happy to see many young faces, and some of them even come twice to experience the ‘new' art," she added.

Songs Of Disappearance is a collection of calls from endangered Australian birds. Last month, it briefly reached No.3 on the country's top 50 albums chart (排行榜) — ahead of Taylor Swift.

Anthony Albrecht, a PhD student at Charles Darwin University, produced the album with Professor Stephen Garnett. "I knew it was a crazy thing to suggest. But Stephen's a little bit crazy like me and he let me do it," Albrecht said.

Songs Of Disappearance was published with a university report which found that 1 in 6 Australian bird species are now threatened. The album records 53 of those species.

"Some sing what you might think of as bird songs, but not all of them," said Sean Dooley, who represents the conservation organization Bird life Australia. "Songs from the golden bowerbird sound like a death cry from some sci-fi series. And the love songs from Christmas Island frigate bird, which has a piece of skin hanging under its mouth that can inflate (膨胀) like a huge red balloon, sound as bizarre as its unusual looks."

There's also the Christmas Island pigeon. When people hear that pigeon, they might think that it's a human making silly noises, Dooley added.

The Charles Darwin University and Bird life Australia report does document successes in protecting endangered birds, the hope being that the album will protect more species.

"The increased awareness can make a difference," Dooley said. "When we have a community on board, that brings pressure to the government to do the right thing. We know that these conservation actions do work."

My parents never once spoke of the stress of having to pay for college, but I knew enough to appreciate that it was there. Therefore, when my French teacher announced that she'd be leading an optional class trip to Paris over one of our breaks for those who could come up with the money to do it, I didn't even bother to raise the issue at home.

Yet one evening my parents sat me down, looking puzzled. My mom had learned about the France trip through my friend's mom.

Jackie ran around the house, looking under the sofa, in the fridge, and behind the piano. However, the book was nowhere to be found. Where was that library book? The thought of not being able to get into the world of stories and knowledge for a whole month made her feel very sad. Jackie sank onto the living room sofa, her mind racing with thoughts of the result she would soon face. 

Just then Mom came into the living room and suddenly said, "Have you searched all the places? You need to think carefully and see if you've missed anything?" "I've searched everywhere I can think of, but I still haven't found it, " Jackie almost cried. "I looked for you in your painting room in the backyard last night where you were practising your painting. I seemed to see a red thing. Maybe it was in the painting room, " Mom added.
