The first time we set eyes on "Big Red", Father, Mother and I were on our way home. As we passed the Eaton's department store's window, we stopped as usual to have a look and do a bit of dreaming.

The beautifully decorated window display held the best toys ever. There were dolls much too pretty to play with. And they all lay beneath a surprisingly fantastic dress. Mother's eyes were glued to its shining red satin(缎子).

"What a silly dress!" she shook her head."Who on earth would want such a big dress?"As we continued down the street, Mother turned her head for one more look."My goodness! You'd think they'd display something a person could use! "Mother's Day was nearing, and the red dress was soon forgotten. Mother, of all people, was not one to spend money on items that were not practical."There are things we need more than this,"she'd always say. Choosing a gift for Mother's Day for her was quite hard. When Dad and I asked, she thought carefully and then asked for some tea towels, face cloths or a new basin.

On our last trip to town before Mother's Day, we were driving up the main street when Mother suddenly shouted in surprise,"Look !Frank!" She pointed excitedly as Dad drove past Eaton's."That big red dress is gone," she said in disbelief to Dad."Who'd be fool enough to buy such adress?"Mother questioned, shaking her head. I was almost certain that I noticed a trace of longing in her voice.

In recent years, traditional Chinese opera has experienced a remarkable resurgence(复兴),attracting people with its (power)performances and artistic excellence. A standout example of it is the Yueju Opera production Nee Dragon Gate Inn (perform)by the well-known Xiao Bai Hua troupe(剧团)from Zhejiang Province. This production has not only up held the rich traditions of Chinese opera, also filled it with fresh, contemporary energy.

The production reimagines the classie martial arts story set in the Ming Dynasty,  weaves an interesting tale of love, betrayal and heroism.The plot centers on main (character)like Jia Ting, Jin Xiangyu and Qiu Moyan, who find (they)caught in a web of intrigue(阴谋)at the Dragon Gate Inn.

This Yueju Opera adaptation breathes new life into the narrative,(combine)traditional elements with modern storytelling techniques. People (transport)into the story by the immersive setting. And the use of modern technology has (great)expanded the reach of the adaptation. The online broad east of the performance has attracted millioms of viewers.

Its success shows that traditional Chinese theater can adapt and thrive in the contemporary world .In word, the adaptation has revitalized Yueju Opera and paved the way for the future of traditional Chinese opera.

Due to the bad weather, the flight 1 made me trapped at the O Hare Intermational Airport. In order to kill time, I 2 up and down the terminal for some exercise. When I passeda coffee bar ,a piece of music 3 into my ears. Following the music, I went into the bar and 4 to find an empty table. Most seats were 5 by people who were attracted by the beautiful music. A young woman was playing the piano 6 .I could only describe it as beautiful classical music. Being exposed to the wonderful music, I totally 7 the annoying wait.

Culture and heritage play an important role in our lives. Countries and societies use diverse methods to preserve their culture and heritage. Some document it through architectural skills. Some write manuscripts in great detail. This is because as a society we understand the importance of documenting our culture and heritage. People document their past. This makes sure their culture is clearly understood by the generations to come.

Each culture has its own music, literature, festivals, clothing, food habits, and other unique characteristics. Celebrate major holidays with family, friends and relatives; organize your cultural events and cook traditional foods by taking guidance from the elders in your family. When you prepare such food, you will realize that it's actually your comfort food and a source of family pride.

Right now many languages are at risk of extinction. If you know one of themand if it is your native language, motivate others in your family and relationships to talk more in this language. If you know people who share your culture and tradition, but speak in a different language ,try to talk to them in your own native language. This will help in preserving an integralaspect of your culture.

If you live in a foreign country, adjust to the local culure but try not to lose your family traditions. And for that keep talking to your family and friends at home, join local groups linked to your culture and keep celebrating your country's festivals, of course by following local laws.

The Ring of Fire is a string of volcanoes and sites of earthquakes, around the edges of the Pacifie Ocean. Here,a string of 452 volcanoes stretches from the southern tip of South America, up along the coast of North America, across the Bering Strait, down through Japan, and into NewZealand.

The Ring of Fire is the result of plate tectonics(板块构造).Tectonic plates are huge pieces of the earth's crust, which fit together like pieces of a puzzle. The plates are constantly moving on top of a layer of solid rock called the mantle(地幔).Sometimes these plates collide, move apart, orslide next to each other, which shows the normal conditions on the Ring of Fire.

The Ring of Fire is home to hot spots, areas deep within the earth's mantle from which heatrises. This heat facilitates the meling of rock in the upper portion of the mantle.The melted rock, known as magma, often pushes through cracks in the crust to form volcanoes. Most of the active volcanoes on the Ring of Fire are found on its western edge.

Mount Ruapehu in New Zealand is one of the active volcanoes on the Ring of Fire, with yearly minor eruptions, and major eruptions occuring about every 50 years.It's part of the Taupo Volcanic Area, where the dense Pacific Plate is subducting(向下俯冲)beneath the Australian Plate.

Krakatau is an island volcano in Indonesia, beneath which the denser Australian Plate is being subducted beneath the Eurasian Plate. A violent eruption in 1883 destroyed the entire island.

Mount Fuji, Japan's tallest and most famous mountain, is an active volcano on the Ring of Fire. It last erupted in 1707,but recent earthquake activity in eastern Japan may have put the volcano in a"critical state".Mount Fuji sits at a zone where the Amur Plate, Okhotsk Plate, and Philippine Plate interact.

The Ring of Fire's eastern half also has many active volcanic areas. For instance, Popocatépetlis one of Mexico's most active volcanoes, with 15 recorded eruptions since 1519.The volcano is the result of the small Cocos Plate subducting beneath the North American Plate.

Music festivals are environmental disasters when it comes to the amount of trash generated, and this seems mostly from festival-goers' strange disposable mentality. An estimated 80%of trash generated by music festivals comes from what's left behind by campers, and the Association of Independent Festivals guesses 1 to 2 out of every 6 tents are left behind. They get used for a single weekend and are often abandoned.

After the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK saw a shocking 10,000 tents left behind in 2011,some environmentally-minded people decided to take action. A campaign called" Love Your Tent(LYT)"was started, and its aim is to"make getting up and leaving absolutely everything behind you completely socially unacceptable".

The campaign took over a single campground at the festival and ensured that every person who wanted to camp there signed an agreement including promising to take their gear home. The first year 2012 was a success. Out of 1,500 campers, only 18 tents were abandoned. In 2018,the Isle of Wight Festival saw 1,450 campers staying in the designated(指定的)"Love Your Tent"fields,a nd no tents were left behind.

Unfortunately, it continues to be a frustrating battle. When LYT did a survey of students in 2017,they found that 60%of participants admitted to leaving tents behind in the past, even though86%recognized waste has an impact on the environment.36%were unsure if their behavior would ever change, and a pitiful 35%said their behavior would definitely never change.

While there's no easy solution to this trash disaster, it's clear that music festival organizers need to take responsibility for what their event creates, and demand that campers clean up their act, literally. Organizers could also provide tent-recycling facilities for those who insist on leaving their tents behind. Everyone could at least sign a code of conduct agreement when purchasing tickets.

Participants can also avoid attending festivals with bad reputations for waste management and support those with good policies. Most importantly,create your own zero-waste standards for camping and be an example to others. Camping,which is supposed to be a celebration of nature, should never turn into a garbage dump.

In 1983,thousands of runners from all over the world gathered in Australia to take part in the West field Sydney-Melbourne Ultramarathon—a distance of 875 kilometers. The first man to win this race was 61-year-old potato farmer Cliff Young.

When Cliff showed up in the race, he stuck out like a sore thumb. While all the other participants wore professional running equipment, Cliff was dressed as if he had just retumed from the field. Wearing his everyday clothes and work boots, he quickly attracted the attention of reportlers present,

"I grew up on a farm where we couldn't afford horses or tractors(拖拉机).Whenever the storms would roll in, I'd have to go out and round up the sheep," Clif told reporters."Sometimes I'd have to run those 2,000 sheep on 2,000 acres for two or three days.It took a long time, but I'd always catch them. I believe I can run this race. "No one actually believed him. Most competitors were in their 20s and early 30s,with years of training and marathon experience.

On the first day, Cliff was left far behind. But he had one advantage that no one had expected. All the other runners had been training to run for 18 hours a day and then stop and sleep for the other six, but he didn't stop until he reached the finish line. Although running at a slow pace, he simply didn't stop running, which helped him maintain the lead for the whole five and a half day. Upon being handed a $10,000 check as a prize for winning the race, Clif decided to keep none of it for himself and instead divided it evenly among the other five runners, who eventually managed to finish the race.

Cliff continued to run. In 1997,he set out to raise funds for homeless kids by running all 16,000 kilometers of the Australian coastline. In 2000,Cliff achieved a world age record in a six-day race in Victoria

St.Paul's Cathedral

St.Paul's Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece and one of London's most iconic buildings. Take a walk around this spectacular church and you'll be amazed by its grandeur and impressive exterior. However, it is also well worth visiting inside to discover the resting places of several notable people, including Sir Christopher Wren, Admiral Nelson, and The Duke of Wellington. Besides, once inside this massive building, you can take hundreds of steps to reach the top of the dome and enjoy the full view of London.
