The Baili Azalea (杜鹃）Nature Reserve in Bijie city, Southwest China's Guizhou Province,(name) after its 125.8 square kilometers of old-growth azaleas and is  national 5A-level scenic spot. The scenic spot not only boasts a sea of azaleas, but (be) also home to towering old trees, mountains, rivers, and rare animals and plants. The azaleas are in full bloom from late March  early May.

With more free time after completing her examinations, Rachel, a 16-year-old student of the School of Science and Technology, Singapore, decided to bake for friends and family. She was surprised when they came back with a lot of positive 1 .

How Laughing at Yourself Makes You Attractive

Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at for it?  And it's okay — we should even have a laugh about them.

If you think of a game of fetch, you might picture a dog running back and forth, eagerly recovering a ball. But a new study shows that they're not the only pets that like the game: Cats play fetch, too, just on their own unique terms.

The researchers discovered almost 1,000 owners of 1,154 cats to find out if and why. According to their findings, nearly 95% of the cat owners reported that their cats fetched items naturally. One respondent said his cat returned the toy completely for no reason.

Fetching was mainly first noticed when cats were under I year old. What's more, "cats who fetch largely determine when they engage in fetching activities and actively influence the play behavior of their owners," according to the study. "So, it can say a bit about cats being in control of their interactions and being in control of their environments, even being in control of us. You might even go so far to say," says Jemma Forman, the co-author of the study.

But the motivation for cats to fetch objects seems to be different from that for dogs. Cats are more likely to play on their own with objects similar to prey (猎物). For dogs, play is more social, involving either another dog or human.

In general, play has major advantages for both the pet and the owner, as it not only helps to prevent attack towards, the owner, but also models the act of preying on real animals, an important kind of play behavior. "So even if your cat doesn't play fetch, obviously it's a really good idea to try and engage them in any sort of play. Play does have a lot of benefits," says Forman. "It's about owner acceptance to your fur baby," she says.

The first set of Chinese stories presented in English scripts, titled Stories of China: Performed in English, was officially published by Foreign Language Press. Planned by the New Channel International Education Group with the participation of playwrights from China, the United Kingdom and the United states, the book provides a new way for young people to learn English while inheriting and spreading Chinese culture.

The book contains 20 English scripts in novel formats covering a wide range of subjects. Unlike the most common English scripts for young readers on the market which are based on adaptations of European and American stories, those scripts presented in this book are unique for being based on classic Chinese stories, readapted and written in English. The book is divided into three grades in terms of grammar and vocabulary difficulty, making it suitable for young English learners from primary schools to junior and high schools.

All the scripts in the book are written by top playwrights with elegant, pure and vivid language. The scripts are provided with a summary of the story in both Chinese and English, so that readers can fully understand the plot as well as the history and culture behind it. Readers can not only improve their English skills through immersive reading and performance but also appreciate Chinese culture.

Hu Min, English education expert and founder of the New Channel, said the combination of traditional Chinese culture and English teaching has become a trend, guiding young people to tell Chinese stories to the world with their own wisdom and deep Chinese cultural heritage. The New Channel will offer special courses on Stories of China: Performed in English in its many schools across the country, and cooperate with primary and secondary schools in Beijing, Shanghai to offer English drama courses on a trial basis. Hu believes the courses will set off a new wave of enthusiastic learning among young people.

My mother and I don't speak the same language. Her English is not good, and my Mandarin stopped at the picture-book level on the day I started kindergarten in California, as I realized that the few English words I knew weren't going to get me very far. I immersed (沉浸) myself in strange grammar and new vocabulary. As my mother tongue withered (逐渐淡去) in my mind, English allowed me to explain my personhood here and silence the narrative that I was just a shy, odd Asian. 

My wish to write, however, made me unintelligible to my mother. She couldn't understand why I'd spoil other better chances. I'd tried to communicate with her in Chinese, searching my mind for sentences: How could I describe my gratitude for a path to self-fulfillment when all I could say was "kai xin" or "happy"? Without the words to bridge the gap between our worldviews, our dissatisfaction and worry turned into stubbornness. 

I landed a day job editing a design magazine but worked on my novel in my off-hours. As its main characters, Marissa and Kathleen's mother-daughter relationship was similar to my own, troubled and split by cultural differences—though always revived by love. But the book is in English, so my mom won't be able to read it. 

Writing the book gave me a reason to mine for details about my family. I'd spent so much of my adolescence shedding (摆脱) my background that when I reached adulthood, I became interested in our history. I started asking questions, hoping to find a new understanding of us. 

Her answers were mixed with joyful memories, like the pleasant smell of the flowers my mother would pin to her blouse, or the hubbub(喧闹)of visiting her cousins in the countryside. As her world became clearer to me, I came closer to knowing who she is. 

When I showed my mother a copy, she noticed her Chinese name in the acknowledgments and said in Mandarin with a shaking voice, "Now I know you truly love me." I wish it hadn't taken this long to find a way to tell her. She may not understand it word for word, but I know she gets the message.

The Sad Zither is a famous seven-verse poem  (write)by Tang Dynasty poet Li Shangyin (813—858). Due to its rich imagery, the poem is regarded as one of  (hard)poems to explain and translate.

Sixteen-year-old Corion Evans made a daring rescue to save three teenage girls. The 16-year-old was hanging out with two1 in a parking area near the Pascagoula River in July when a2 with three teenage girls inside propelled off a boat ramp (斜坡) and into the river. It came to rest some 20 feet from land, then sank. Actually, the driver had3 followed wrong directions from her GPS.

It was around 2:30 a.m. by the time Evans and brothers Karon and Caleb got to the river's 4 . In the darkness, they could barely5 the girls holding onto the roof,the only part of the car still,6 , above water. But they could hear7 .

Spending some time in nature can feel like a relief after staring at a screen or being stuck inside all day. There are plenty of ways to enjoy nature: you can exercise outside, document what you see and even just experience what's happening.

Going for a walk or run is one of the simplest ways to get outside and enjoy nature. You can go for a walk or run in your neighborhood or on a nearby nature trail. You can bike through your neighborhood, or even take your bike to a nearby nature trail. Either way, you'll get some exercise while you're enjoying being outside.

You can use any camera you have — your phone, a small point-and-shoot, or a DSLR. Taking photos outside requires you to really focus on the nature around you. Look for unusual colors, patterns, or animals to photograph.

Instead, enjoy the weather, look at the stars, and take some time to take in where you are. If you have a tent, put it up in the backyard. Otherwise, you can just lay out sleeping bags and sleep under the stars.

Aeronautics (航空学) specialists from the University of South Australia spent months studying the dragonfly's flight, creating 3D models from digital images, to build a winged drone (无人机). Study leader Javaan Chahl believes that winged drones based on the dragonfly's shape and movement will simply be more flexible and energy efficient.

Chahl's team used a special photography technique to classify the wing shapes of 75 different dragonfly species from museum collections. Their wings are long, light and hard. Plus, their long bodies give them excellent stability and balance, making it possible for winged drones to deliver awkward loads and undertake long observation missions.

Investigating the way that dragonflies remain stable during flight actually reveals the techniques they use to get themselves out of tricky situations. Dragonflies are found to be able to perform upside-down backflips to regain balance and normal flight, when they find themselves upside down mid-air. This special skill can even be performed while dragonflies are unconscious, meaning it is a passive stability mechanism similar in concept to planes that are designed to glide to safety with their engines turned off. Engineers are looking to copy dragonfly wings to create safer drones that can right themselves.

Of course, not all attempts to build dragonfly-like drones are successful. TechJet's air vehicle was supposed to operate as an aerial camera, observation and security drone, but it failed before production got underway. Similarly, Insectothopter, an American dragonfly spy drone built in the 1970 s was deserted.

Yet the principles behind winged drones are solid. In fact, NASA has settled on a nuclear-powered autonomous craft called Dragonfly to explore the surface of Saturn's moon Titan in 2034. NASA's project is actually an air vehicle, rather than a winged drone, but engineers are still convinced they can crack the code of nature's most gifted flying insect and revolutionize unmanned flight along the way.

A country that is carbon neutral is basically no longer giving off, or "emitting", the dangerous greenhouse gases, simply called "carbon emissions". 

Carbon emissions are closely tied to the burning of "fossil fuels", like coal, oil, and gas. To become carbon neutral, it's necessary to stop creating power and heat in ways that pollute, and instead use more "renewable" methods, such as getting energy from the sun, wind, and water. New Zealand already gets about 80% of its energy from renewable sources. From the government's point of view, to become carbon neutral, that is not enough. So it plans to increase this. Additionally, it aims to begin using more electric cars and trucks. It will also be spending $14. 5 billion to make it easier for people to get around by walking, biking, or using public transportation. Meanwhile, it has a goal of planting 1 billion trees. 

Methane (甲烷) is one of the worst greenhouse gases. Surprisingly, methane from cows and sheep makes up about 34% of New Zealand's polluting gases. However, New Zealand's plan to go carbon neutral doesn't cover methane from cows and sheep. It aims to reduce this kind of pollution, too, but not so much. The plan calls for cutting back on the gas by 24% to 47% by 2050. The leader of New Zealand's Green Party, James Shaw, was responsible for much of the plan. He was clearly successful: it passed 119 votes to 1. 

New Zealand has progressed from debating whether climate change is real to discussing what to do about it and is one of the few countries where going carbon neutral has become the law. Scientists say more of this sort of action is still needed right away. A report has been released by 11, 000 scientists, and they believe more countries will face the climate emergency positively. This is the first time that such a large group of scientists have used the word "emergency" to describe climate change.

Van Cortlandt Park, in the northwest Bronx, is the third largest New York City park. Over half of the park is forested and it has the largest freshwater lake in Bronx. There is a lot of history in the park: It contains the Bronx's oldest building, which was built in 1748~1749. The park has the oldest municipal golf course in the United States, the Van Cortlandt Golf Course, founded in 1895. It has a National Historic Landmark trail, the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail.

Heritage Education

China's "Cultural and Natural Heritage Day" falls on the second Saturday of June every year. Many celebrations are 1 on the day. There is no 2 that different kinds of celebrating 3 across the country will arouse(唤醒) public awareness of the importance of cultural heritage protection and 4 the young people to love the fine 5 culture of the motherland.

The Great Wall can be called "great" mostly because of its amazing length. If we do nothing to save the Great Wall, it will become wasteland rather than a historic site. The Great Wall is actually a series of walls built and rebuilt by different dynasties over the past 2, 000 years. It began in the Qin Dynasty, and lasted into the Ming Dynasty. The parts built before the Ming Dynasty have nearly disappeared. People are familiar with sections such as Badaling in Beijing and Jiayuguan Pass in Gansu, because they have been open to tourists for many years. But those sections far away from the public eyes have been almost forgotten. 

Few local people knew the 3-metre-high walls made of earth and stones beside them are part of the Great Wall. The lack of knowledge is considered as one of the main reasons behind humans. 

The bricks on the Great Wall are carried off by countryside people to build their houses. Rubbish is spread over the battlements. Those who destroyed and are destroying the Great Wall know its name, but don't know its cultural meaning. The local farmers not only carried off the body of the Great Wall but dug out the entire base. 

It is necessary to protect the Great Wall. First of all, the officials should be aware of the importance of the Great Wall. Young Chinese should know more about the nation's great civilisation and learn to love it. 

The Palace Museum，known as the Forbidden City, is the  (large) and most well  (reserve) imperial (皇帝的) residence in China today. It is divided into an outer and an inner court with a rectan­gular shape, 960 meters long from north to south and 750 meters in  (wide) from east to west. It has a splendid history since the Ming Dynasty, and it  (rebuild) and repaired many times in the past. I was so excited to visit it  my family last summer vacation. After we passed through the Front Gate, a lot of palaces appeared. The tour guide told us there were almost 8, 700 rooms in the Palace Museum. During the Ming Dynasty, construction began in 1406.  took 14 years to build the Forbidden City. I was  (real) surprised that the workers could build it so well  even today it is not out of style. I could not remember all the names of the buildings，but I took hundreds of beautiful  (photo) on the way. I think I will never forget the  (amaze) trip I had in Beijing, China and I will go there next time with my friends. 

Located in southern Anhui Province, Mount Huangshan (黄山) covers  area of 250 kilometers, of  154 square kilometers are scenic attractions. Its landscape features "four wonders" of imposing peaks, spectacular rocks, odd-shaped pines, and a sea of clouds. 

Mount Huangshan boasts 72 peaks, more than 1, 000 meters above sea level, with three main peaks rising majestically. They are both fascinating and (danger). Cliffs, stone forests, stone pillars, stone blocks and egg-shaped stones form the unique granite geomorphological(地貌的） scenery. 

The pines on the mountain are tall and have fascinating(shape). The famous Welcoming Guests Pine (Yingke Song) (1, 500 years old) and See-Guest-Off Pine have become a symbol of being faithful, unyielding(不屈的) and hospitable. More than 200 days each year on Mount Huangshan are misty and cloudy. The vapors coagulate(凝结）to form a sea of clouds. As the clouds cloak the mountain, they give a feeling of being in fairyland. 

Mount Huangshan has more than 400 famous scenic attractions of which 140 have been developed and opened to (tour). 

In 1990, Mount Huangshan went on both the world cultural  natural heritage lists. Is it really so beautiful?
