It was Jennifer Williams' mother who got her interested in books. A librarian, she 1 to her three children every day. When Williams, now 54, became an elementary school teacher in Danville, Virginia, she wanted her students to2 with reading just as she had.

A fourth color might be added to traffic lights to better realize the potential of self-driving vehicles, as stated in a recent paper by researchers at North Carolina State University in the US.

Self-driving vehicles can do more than just drive—they are able to sense their surroundings and upload information. The added white lights would be used to signal to human drivers that autonomous vehicles are managing the upcoming traffic flow intelligently. "The white lights will tell human drivers to simply follow the autonomous vehicle in front of them." one of the study authors Ali Hajbabaie told the university's website.

Simulated (模拟的) models showed that autonomous vehicles were able to improve traffic flow on their own. Introducing the white light also has a positive effect on reducing fuel consumption. The higher the percentage of autonomous vehicles at a crossing, the faster the traffic moves, reducing about 40 to 99 percent of the total delay time.

As self-driving technology thrives, much infrastructure ( 基础设施) is needed. To begin with, the vehicle's network that collects data about the environment and shares the data with other vehicles needs to be intelligent. High-precision maps are needed for autonomous vehicles to plan routes in detail. They can provide both updated information on traditional maps and real-time changes, such as accidents. For example, when driving around a curve, the navigation (导航) system in the vehicle needs to calculate the safe speed based on the map's information. And if the area is foggy, the network has to alarm the other cars to slow down.

By now we all know the importance of drinking enough water throughout the day, but there is such a thing as too much. Earlier this summer, a 35-year-old Indiana woman, died from water toxicity (毒性作用) after drinking too much water in a short period of time, according to a local news report.

While drinking enough water is important, overdoing it can lead to low levels of sodium (钠) in the blood, which can be life-threatening, according to Julia Zumpano, an expert at Cleveland Clinic's Center for Human Nutrition.

Exactly how much is enough for our body depends on a variety of factors, including our weight, age, location and overall health. People in poor health, or active people such as athletes, are at risk of water toxicity, as they tend to drink large amounts of water and lose sodium through their sweat. So are women and children because of their smaller body size.

While the gold standard for many years has been eight glasses of 8 ounces (盎司) of water per day, the National Academy of Medicine suggests enough water intake is about 125 ounces for men and about 91 ounces for women. And it recommends not drinking more than 48 ounces of water per hour. This includes total water from fruits, vegetables and other drinks besides water.

If you struggle with getting enough water per day, you can try water bottles to help track your water intake. Eating fruits and vegetables can also increase our water intake. You could experiment with adding flavor to improve the taste of your water.

"Most people had better keep drinking water throughout the day, but larger amounts may be needed in the heat for an extended period of time or during exercise. If you are thirsty for water—listen to your body. But don't overdo it," says Zumpano.

When you hear the word "birthmark", you probably think of one of those black or brown spots that you have on your body. For me, it's different — I have them on my lips and inside my mouth. I'm used to being asked, "What are those black marks on your lips?" When I tell people they're birthmarks, they usually say, "That's strange." I used to consider them ugly. However, my mom calls them beauty marks.

In pictures, I used to hide my birthmarks by pursing (噘起) my lips so I wouldn't have to deal with people's questions. As I was growing up, people wore me out with them. Some people would ask me the same questions even before knowing my name. In society I feel like we judge people by their looks before their personality.

My birthmarks are caused by a genetic (基因的) condition from my mom's side of the family. My mom's mom has birthmarks on her lips, and my mom's uncle and my uncle have some on their bodies. Every year I plan to have a procedure to remove them. But when imagining the process, I always get nervous and give up.

My cousin faces a similar challenge. She has a huge birthmark that takes up her whole arm. She's never tried to hide it or change her appearance. Once, her grandmother told her that the birthmark looked extremely prominent and suggested that she should wear long sleeves more often. If my cousin had actually taken that suggestion, she wouldn't be such a person as she is.

Inspired by my cousin, I am finally accepting who I am and now I don't hesitate when someone asks me about them either. I say, "They're beauty marks" and smile without pursing my lips.

The best places to see giant pandas are, of course, in Chengdu, hometown of giant pandas. But there are zoos/parks in other China cities where you can see giant pandas if you can't get to Chengdu.

Dujiangyan Panda Base

Chongqing Zoo boasts 16 pandas, which is second to Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Center among the city zoos. Located in the "Mountain City", Chongqing Zoo is built on the mountain slopes. The panda house utilizes the mountainside and includes a rock cave. So, you have to climb up a little for a panda visit there.
