I enjoy the happy atmosphere of both Chinese and Western festivals. As long as it is meaningful for me, I will celebrate it with my boyfriend, and my parents! I like Western festivals and often celebrate them without even knowing the origins of them. Why? Because what I really appreciate is just the happy atmosphere.

Western Festivals are more like parties or games for some Chinese. Also, spending money = good for economy. Most Chinese don't take Western festivals as seriously as their own. It's like a game or party in my eyes. A way to blow off steam and have fun (and spend money).

Cherish your own festivals. It would be a pity if the Chinese accepted these Western days — first, because they have absolutely nothing to do with traditional Chinese culture. Second, they are a big trick by the big stores to get more money out of you. Stick to your own festivals — they actually mean something to you — rather than following western customs for no good reason.

Grandma is ninety this Christmas. I remember once visiting her, crying when my big sister told me "There is no Santa Claus!", because I knew she always told the 1 .

"No Santa Claus?" she snorted (哼着说). "Ridiculous! Don't 2 it. That rumor has been going around for years. Now, put on your coat, and let's go."

"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked.

"Where" 3 to be Kerby's General Store. As we walked in, Grandma handed me twenty dollars. "Take the money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you outdoors."

I was only eight years old, and had never 4 for anything alone. For a few moments I just stood there, 5 , wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.

Suddenly I 6 Bobbie, a kid sitting behind me in the classroom. He didn't have a coat; he never 7 during the winter. I held the bill excitedly. I would buy Bobbie a coat. I saw a red one with a hat to it. It looked really 8 . He would like that.

When you think about art, you might consider it to be permanent. After all, that picture you drew in kindergarten might still hang on your refrigerator years later.  Think about a Broadway performance. When it's over, it's over. Sure, it might live in your memory. But the live show is a special event. It is limited to a certain time and place. 

Can you think of other forms of art that are temporary? If you're a fan of the beach, sandcastles might come to your mind. Have you ever spent hours building a beautiful sandcastle?  You knew your work of art would be gone as soon as the tide came in. The sandy beach is a canvas where nature erases "paintings" daily. 

Most of the time, art made from sand can't last long. Still, many people love using sand to create their own unique vision of beauty. One of the most attractive types of sand art is sand animation.  Artists who work in sand animation use sand to make a set of images that usually tell a story. They often start with a large amount of sand on a flat surface, such as a table. They then use their hands and fingers to draw in the sand. 

 However, the wide variety of beautiful and highly-detailed sand artworks might surprise you. Many of these works or art are temporary. That's where the animation part comes in. 

Sand animation artists create a series of images that move to tell a story. They might also use music and special lighting to complete the effect. Sometimes they photograph or video their creation throughout the process. .

Street art is a very popular form of art that is spreading quickly all over the world. You can find it on buildings, sidewalks, street signs and trash cans from Tokyo to Paris, from Moscow to Cape Town. Street art has become a global culture and even art museums and galleries are collecting the works of street artists. 

Street art started out very secretly because it was illegal to paint on public and private property without permission. People often have different opinions about street art. Some think it is a crime and others think it is a very beautiful new form of culture. 

Art experts claim that the street art movement began in New York in the 1960s. Young adults painted words and other images on walls and trains. This colourful style of writing became known as graffiti. Graffiti art showed that young people wanted to rebel against society. They travelled around cities to create paintings that everyone could see. In many cases, they had trouble with the police and the local government. 

Street artists do their work for different reasons. Some of them do not like artists who make so much money in galleries and museums. They choose street art because it is closer to the people. Some artists try to express their political opinions in their work. They often want to protest against big firms and corporations. Others like to do things that are forbidden and hope they don't get caught. Advertising companies also use street art in their ads because it gives people the impression of youth and energy. 

Today, the Internet has a big influence on street art. Artists can show their pictures to audience all over the world. Many city residents, however, say that seeing a picture on the Internet is never as good as seeing it alive. The street art movement lives with the energy and life of a big city. There, it will continue to change and grow.
