About the Subject
APSS2S09 is a 3-credit 2-semester Service-Learning subject offered by the Department of Applied Social Sciences.
This subject is designed to enable students to understand the core qualities of service leaders in terms of competence and character. Upon completion of the subject,students will be able to identify and address the needs of the service beneficiaries through using service leadership skills.

·Full-time undergraduate students
·An intermediate level of Putonghua is required for effective delivery of services in Hangzhou. Special consideration can be given to international students who are not fluent in Putonghua.

Service Targets &Outbound Experience
Students will be required to provide service to children and adolescents through design and conduct of service project in one of the following service settings:
For Community Service in Hong Kong(S23)
·Heep Hong Society(serving children and adolescents with special education needs)
·Society of Boys'Centres (serving children and adolescents with social and emotional problems)
·Wharfs Project WeCan(serving the disadvantaged secondary school students)
For Community Services in Xi'an or Chengdu (S23)
In cooperation with Xi'an Jiaotong University or Sichuan University
An outbound trip will be arranged for around 10 days in the summer term for students to complete the
educational and supportive services (e. g. ,summer camps,classes)for disadvantaged children and adolescents
in Mainland China.
