There have been many great painters in the rich history of Chinese art. Here are four of the greatest painters from China.

Li Cheng (919-967)

Li Cheng contributed greatly to one of the golden ages of landscape paintings in world history. During his time, he was considered the best landscape painter ever. He is remembered especially for the winter landscapes he created and for simple composition of tall, old evergreens set against a dry landscape. Several of his paintings are in diluted(稀释的) in k which gives them a foggy appearance.

Fan Kuan (950-1032)

Fan Kuan began his career by modeling his works on those of Li Cheng but later created his own style claiming that the only true teacher was nature. His finest work Travelers Among Mountains and Streams is a masterpiece of landscape. painting and many future artists turned to it for inspiration.

QiBaishi (1864-1957)

One of the greatest contemporary Chinese painters, Qi Baishi is known for not being influenced by Western styles like most of the painters of his time. He can be considered as the last great traditional painter of China. Qi Baishi painted almost everything from insects to landscapes. He is regarded highly in Chinese art for the freshness and spontaneity(自然) that he brought to the familiar types of insects, birds and flowers.

WuGuanzhong (1919-2010)

Widely considered as the founder of modern Chinese painting, Wu Guanzhong has painted various aspects of China, like its architecture, plants, animals, people and landscapes. Wu was influenced by post-Impressionist art, an important western movement, and went on to combine Western and Chinese styles to create a unique form of modern art. In 1992, he became the first living Chinese artist whose work was exhibited at the British Museum.

It was a busy morning and I had several tasks to do before the day became too hot outside. While walking by the side of a busy road, I noticed an old lady, maybe in her 80s standing in danger close to the traffic. Although my mind was occupied, I thought to myself that I should warn her not to stand so close to the traffic rushing by.

When I reached the spot where the old lady was standing, I recognized that she was trying to get attention of passersby who of course were too busy to take note of her. She kept pointing to the middle of the road. When I tried to gently move her back further away from the edge of the busy road, she said that she was standing there because she had dropped her house key in the middle of the road and was unable to open her house without the key. I looked around and no one seemed to be interested in the two of us. I knew I was getting delayed but decided to help.

The traffic was busy on the road with people on two-wheelers and office goers in cars as well as school buses rushing with school children. It was the worst time of the day to cross a busy road without a traffic light.

After asking the old lady to stay at a safe distance, I took a deep breath, stepped onto the road, and waved my hands wildly, expecting not to be hit by the coming vehicles. At first one lane stopped and then I moved further on to the middle of the road, continuing to wave my hand. Just then a school bus was approaching me and I stepped in front of it to stop it. My experience has been that school bus drivers are always considerate of reckless（鲁莽的） pedestrians like me.

In the ancient times, the drum was believed to be linked to high authorities,  was not as a musical instrument until the Zhou Dynasty. At that time, the drum enjoyed a leading position in performances and was played prior  other musical instruments, such as the qin and se. During the course of history, the firm sound of the drum has accompanied the human race from early life to modern civilization. The drum, a musical instrument （prefer） by many people, mainly evolved from ceramic（陶瓷的） jars and basins used by ancient cultures. Archaeological evidence has proved that the making of the ceramic drum （date） back to the Neolithic Age 7,000 years ago.

In ancient China, the drum was not only used in （sacrifice） ceremonies and dancing, but also used for fighting enemy tribes and hunting wild animals, and was even used to communicate messages, （remind） people of danger. With social development, the drum （apply） in ethnic bands, Chinese folk art forms, singing and dancing, boat race and lion dancing and festive （gather）. It can be seen that the drum is not only  essential musical instrument, but also a life tool （close） related to people's lives.

When I was five, my parents began to place me in a variety of different sports. The first 1 was gymnastics, which was a complete 2 . The second was track and field. Track was fun at first, I actually liked to run and I was pretty fast. When I joined the team, the 3 was going to begin soon, only giving me three weeks to 4 for my first track meet.

Earthquake prediction has long been a challenge for scientists around the globe since the geological phenomenon can occur at any time and any location with little or no warning. The chance of a powerful earthquake can only be determined through long-term forecasts in a general area or region on Earth.

Throughout history, no individual or group has yet successfully predicted a major earthquake: including its date and time, location and magnitude. These are the three element s essential to make an earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey （USGS）. While small earthquakes occur all the time, high-intensity earthquakes are rare but is something to watch out.

Now, a new study led by researchers from Pennsylvania State University found a potential solution to the dilemma of earthquake forecast: ancient underthrust rocks. Rocks buried deep in ancient subduction （俯冲） zones—where tectonic （ 地壳的） plates bump with each other—could help scientists make better predictions of how these zones behave during the years between major earthquakes.

According to the USGS, we are still uncertain how we can make such a feat and are not expecting to perfectly predict major earthquakes any time in the foreseeable future.

Although some people in the past said they could predict earthquakes, the U. S. Government agency asserts these are all failed predictions. Their predictions are neither grounded on scientific fact nor passed through the scientific method.

Since authorities in the field of geology and other related areas acknowledged that earthquake prediction is still far from being completed, scientists continue to further understand this mystery. Unlike weather forecasts of hurricanes and other storms, earthquakes have no concrete parameters （参数） that would indicate that they would occur in the coming hours, days, weeks or months.

Regardless, the Penn State researchers have made progress in the dilemma by understanding the underthrust rocks in ancient subduction zones. Determining this area could help scientists better predict the behavior of these zones during periods between major earthquakes. Evidence of their findings was based on clues from rock formations in Alaska and Japan.

New research from the American non-profit organization Consumer Reports finds that plastics have a "widespread" presence in food. The group called on the United States government to examine the safety of food that comes into contact with plastics during production.

In a report released Thursday, Consumer Reports said that 84 out of 85 food products it recently tested contained "plasticizers" called phthalates. Phthalates are chemicals used to make plastics last longer. The researchers also said 79 percent of the examined foods contained bisphenol A （BPA）, another chemical found in plastics.

In these tests, the researchers checked a wider variety of foods to see how much of the chemicals Americans actually consume. The answer is quite a lot. The tests found that bisphenols and phthalates remain widespread in food, almost in every food we tested. The levels did not depend on packaging type, and no one particular type of food—say, dairy products or prepared meals—was more likely than another to have them. Consumer Reports said all the levels were within limits set by U. S. and European regulators. All the foods tested remained within the limits. However, does that mean it is safe to eat?

Beyond highlighting these concerns, Consumer Reports is actively working on issues related to consumer safety. This includes advocating for the banning of harmful chemicals in food. The widespread presence of plastics in food is a pressing issue that requires immediate attention from both regulators and consumers. While we wait for policy changes, there are steps individuals can take to reduce exposure to these chemicals. Some of these measures include avoiding plastic food storage containers, limiting consumption of fast food. Replacing plastic kitchen tools with those made of wood and stainless steel can also help. Using glass or steel water bottles can further reduce exposure. It's also important to air your home regularly to reduce exposure to phthalates in household dust.

When I was a little boy, my mom, dad, brothers and I lived in my grandma's old house, surrounded by four huge vegetable gardens. Around the house she planted so many flowers. On the back porch grandma had dozens of potted plants hanging on hooks. She watered them, talked to them and nurtured them. And in winter she would carry them all inside and set them on shelves near the windows of our enclosed front porch. There with a little water and a lot of love she kept them alive and growing even during the darkest months.

As a boy I was puzzled by all the effort she put into them. I comprehended the four huge gardens. They helped to feed the family all winter long. I even recognized the flowers around the house. They were pretty and smelled so sweet in the summer months. The reason she put so much effort into caring for those potted plants, however, troubled me. They didn't give us any food and they rarely had any flowers on them. They remained a mystery to my child's mind.

Now as I've grown older, I am beginning to understand why my grandma had those potted plants. It is the same reason I have so many pictures of sunrises and forests hanging in my home. They remind me during the dark winter months full of bare trees and yellow grass that light, love and growth still exist. They remind me that spring will come again.

Today I see grandma's potted plants in a new light. They were worth every bit of the love and care she put into them. But my greatest reminder of light and love was grandma herself. Her love lives on in my heart although she is in Heaven. May we all learn to love as she loved, shine as she shined and live as she lived!
