9、 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was young, we lived in a small town. Everyone knew Roy as he was a top student in the town. He was of my age, but he lost his parents in an accident at the age of 8. So he lived alone and delivered newspapers to support himself and his education.
Every time he delivered newspapers to our home, he wore a broad smile on his face and greeted my mom gently. My mom was greatly surprised when she knew his daily routine. He got up every morning by 5 o'clock and walked 5 kilometers from where he lived to the newspaper office to collect the newspapers. By 6:00, he carried 50 pieces of newspapers—more than 5 kilograms and walked 3 kilometers back. After sending the newspapers, he rushed another 3 kilometers home to cook a simple breakfast before hurrying to school.
This morning, seeing he left hurriedly in a strong wind, my mom and I decided to do something for him. After school, I waited for him at the school gate and told him that my mom would like to invite him to our home. When he asked why, I replied, "You will know soon!" Thinking for a short while, he followed me to my home nearby. It was possible that he assumed my mom would continue to subscribe to the newspaper.

If you have a hard time getting along with your teachers, going to class can be a nightmare (噩梦).So here are some tips to help you build a friendly relationship with almost all the teachers.
Talk to your teachers. In many cases, a short discussion can clear up the entire conflict (冲突). Ask your teachers if it is convenient for you to talk in private. If you appear angry or unhappy in front of them, the conflict is unlikely to be solved.
Teachers have many years of teaching experience in the subjects they teach. So discussing the best ways to succeed in the classroom may give you the opportunity to see the best instructors.
Learn to understand their teaching methods. If you are used to a very relaxing class, learning to be successful in a strict environment is difficult and vice versa (反之亦然). In most cases, it is necessary to give yourself some time to get used to a new teaching method.
Ask about your teachers' hobbies. If you know about one of their hobbies, you can talk about it with them. And you can try to find if you have something in common.
Learn why your teachers choose to teach. Approach the teachers at an appropriate (适当的) time before or after class, not during class. Consider saying something like, "I've always wondered why people become teachers. Why did you decide to teach?"
A. It seems to be a difficult job.
B. Ask your teachers how you can do well in class.
C. Join in activities with your teachers after school.
D. Always be polite and show respect in a conversation.
E. A way to discover the positive side of things is to keep diaries.
F. A shared interest may help you see your teachers from a different viewpoint.
G. Sometimes, you may not like some teachers because of their ways of teaching.

If you're someone who has been worrying about the rise of the robots—hold on there just a second, and let them help you impress your friends with some newfound skills in a foreign language. Using artificial intelligence (AI) to help us learn and improve those skills is not new—some of the online language tools we turn to every day are powered by AI.
But as new technologies flood into the market, now is a great time to take advantage of the tech. And according to experts, these tools aren't replacing teachers—they're making their lives easier. One of the things that stops some of us from practicing speaking in a new language is a lack of self-confidence. AI can help—chatbots don't judge you. Of course, teachers don't either, but for some people, communicating with a bot may erase that fear of failure or shyness.
The latest chatbots use something called natural language processing that allows them to understand human speech or writing, providing a human-like response right away. While chatbots are extremely useful for learners working individually, teachers can also offer course material and ask an AI system to produce personalized textbooks for groups of students. The AI can also provide feedback (反馈) in seconds—gone are the days of waiting a week for work to be graded.
Past online language tools and games were able to tell you when you were wrong, but they weren't always able to explain why. Now, not only has that changed, but the explanations are detailed and immediate. But this is not to underestimate the role of the teacher, who can use the technology to help learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of their students and personalize their teaching.
So, if you want to impress your friends with your perfect speech, don't be afraid of AI.Just think of it as a useful tool for both teachers and language learners, which will give you more time and space to enjoy learning something new!

D、The role of teachers in the modern classroom.(2)、Why might someone prefer communicating with a bot?A、Because bots grade work faster. B、Because bots provide textbooks. C、Because bots are more knowledgeable. D、Because bots may remove the fear of failure or shyness.(3)、What is the benefit of AI producing personalized textbooks?A、It saves time for teachers. B、It reduces the cost of education. C、It meets individual students' needs. D、It provides detailed lesson plans.(4)、What word might replace the underlined word "underestimate" in paragraph 4?A、Undervalue. B、Underscore. C、Undertake. D、Understand. -

San Francisco's waterfront (海滨) is on the National Register of Historic Places for good reason.
Its beautiful old landmarks, like the Ferry Building and the Bay Bridge, have been seen in many books, TV shows and movies—from the stories and novels of Jack London to the 1970s TV series The Streets of San Francisco. The future of San Francisco's waterfront, however, isn't safe.
In 2016, the National Trust for Historic Preservation put part of the city's shoreline on its list of the U. S.'s most endangered historic places, in part because of the threat of sea level rise. The waterfront landmarks of many cities are under increasing threat from floods and rising sea levels brought on by human-driven climate change. St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, Italy and the Venice Beach boardwalk in Los Angeles face similar challenges to San Francisco.
"The whole issue of climate change and historic preservation intersects (交织) right at the waterfront," said Elaine Forbes, director of the Port of San Francisco. As she watched the boats come and go on a sunny afternoon, Forbes said, "Sea level rise hasn't historically been as much of a threat to San Francisco as major earthquakes." However, that's changed. Parts of the main road that runs along the waterfront have flooded from heavy rains in recent years. The state estimates (预估) the water could rise up to about two and a half feet above its present level by 2060, and possibly up to seven feet by the turn of the century.
Now, San Francisco is considering measures to save its historic shoreline. But the growing magnitude(庞大) and frequency of the climate-related threats, the high costs and effort needed in saving heritage sites, and competing ideas about what's worth saving and what isn't, can make it hard for cities to know what to do first.
(1)、What is San Francisco's waterfront famous for?A、Old landmarks. B、Famous beaches. C、Beautiful bridges. D、Comfortable climate.(2)、What challenge is the waterfront facing?A、The loss of public support. B、The threat from rising sea levels. C、The influence of tourist activities. D、The competition from other cities.(3)、Why is the earthquake mentioned in paragraph 4?A、To give an example of existing threats. B、To stress the seriousness of sea level rise. C、To compare different types of natural disasters. D、To show the difficulty in the waterfront protection.(4)、What can be learned from the text?A、Heritage sites are in ruins. B、Threats have been removed. C、The shoreline has been flooded. D、Solutions are under consideration. -
16、 阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Recently, my husband and three kids were playing in the Mediterranean, swimming and floating in the picture-perfect sea. It was extremely beautiful in Majorca, Spain. The way the sun danced across the water and how the blue horizon was dotted with storybook sailboats were such beautiful scenes. I almost couldn't believe my eyes.
My husband and I always dreamed about taking our kids on a trip around the world. It was something we always wanted to do "one day". It was one of the things we talked at length about, when we imagined our life with the children we hoped we would have.
Fourteen years later, we had three boys who were growing up faster by the day. It was time to make good on those plans.
We spent dozens of hours discussing, researching and planning. We had to learn how to "road school" our kids and arrange time off from work. We renewed our passports, and then packed our bags. We showed our kids the world. It was about experiencing the dozens of flights and trains and taxis together. We showed them how wonderful, how diverse, and how amazing the world is. We wanted them to learn all that we had learned ourselves, through our own travels as young adults.
But there was something more than that: What we really wanted is to slow down time. We wanted the days to last a bit longer, and the weeks to take their time. The years with our children are going too fast. We wanted to put the brakes on (阻止) our busy lives for a year, and just be with our kids. We wanted a break from the daily morning routine of making lunches, eating breakfast and rushing out of the door in time for school. We needed a family time-out.
It was a wonderful two-month trip in Europe, full of incredible moments. And when we look back at our lives, I know we'll be glad we did it. I know we'll be happy that this is a chapter of the story of our family.
(1)、What was the author's attitude toward the trip when planning it?A、Worried. B、Calm. C、Stressed. D、Eager.(2)、What does the underlined part "make good on" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A、Change. B、Realize. C、Improve. D、Cancel.(3)、What was the author's main purpose of taking this trip?A、To teach her children to value life. B、To allow her children to see the world. C、To enjoy a family breakaway from their life routine. D、To enable her children to learn something out of class.(4)、How did the author feel about their two-month stay in Europe?A、Tired. B、Satisfied. C、Inspired. D、Disappointed. -

Jane was still sleeping when the phone rang in the living room. She opened her sleepy eyes and looked at the clock on the table. It was already nine o'clock! Although Jane was still very sleepy, she knew she had to get up because her mother was working in her office and she couldn't expect her younger brother Tom, who was sleeping like a pig, to answer the Phone. She quickly put on a coat and ran to the living room. When she picked up the receiver, on the other end came the warm greeting, "Good morning!"
It was from her father, who was a seaman and rarely came back. Suddenly, Jane's sleepiness disappeared.
Born in a not-so-rich family, Jane and Tom felt the stress of life, but they were happy to enjoy the family atmosphere. At school, they were straight-A students and took part in various after-school activities. They were the pride of the family.
"Good morning, Dad. Why do you call us so early on the weekend?" Jane said and pretended to be annoyed. "Tom and I have been very nice recently." "My dear, today is your mother's birthday, and I have ordered a cake online and it will be sent to our home late in the afternoon. Do remember to take the cake. It is my surprise for your mother."
Hearing her father's words, Jane felt a little ashamed. How could she forget her mother's birthday?!
While she was chatting with her father, Jane looked around the room and saw a lot of dirty clothes on the sofa. The floor hadn't been cleaned for a few days since her mother had to work all this week.
She looked at the clock again and was sure that she still had enough time to prepare a surprise for her mother.
"Well, Dad, now I'm going to wake Tom up. We will give Mum a surprise, too!" Jane said and hung up the telephone.
