To guide individuals towards greatest choices,Falk Lieder,a cognitive scientist,and his colleagues designed a digital tool called a "cognitive prosthesis".It uses artificial intelligence to match a decision's immediate reward with its long-term worth after making a to-do list.The researchers developed a set of models and algorithms(算法) that consider various elements such as a list of tasks,an individual's unwillingness to each and the amount of time available. It helps to encourage that person to complete them all.

The idea was to turn the challenging projects that people pursue in the real world into a game like environment."The point system gives people achievable goals that signal that they're making progress," Lieder says.

 The results,published online in August in Nature Human Behavior,revealed that the AI support system helped people make better,faster decisions and procrastinate less—and it made them more likely to complete all the assigned tasks.In one experiment,in which the researchers presented 120 participants with a list of several writing assignments,However,the rate was only 56 percent for those not using it.

Lieder says one of the current tool's limitations is that it can handle only short to-do lists. At the same time,they are working with a company called Complice to integrate the tool into an existing to-do list app.The researchers also plan to run field experiments to see how well their cognitive prosthesis succeeds in the real world.

Be curious.Scientists choose to become scientists because they are curious about the world around them and how the things in it work.This curiosity leads them to investigate the how and why behind what they see.

Be patient in climbing the career ladder. There are very few careers that take longer than this one.Even when you're doing with your education,you still have to get research under your belt.If you're an instant-gratification(即时满足)type of person,this may not be the right career for you.

Be hard-working and persevere(持之以恒).It's been said that jobs in science are the lowest paid in the US.What this is getting at is that because of the long path to success,for a while you won't be living lavishly(丰富地). Have the need to always keep learning. Whether it's reading peer-reviewed journals,attending seminars,or working towards getting yourself published,you'll always be learning.

 In those years of waiting for results,you need to constantly be looking for the smallest changes in what you expect to see.Your eye needs to be focused and ready at all times.
