London's food scene has witnessed an inrush not only of traditional Cantonese restaurants but also a diverse range of regional Chinese cuisines. For decades, London's Chinatown has been closely associated with classic dishes (root) in Guangdong province. Sherry Turkle, a professor of social science at MIT, has warned that forming relationships with machines could backfire (事与愿违), and lead people to have fewer secure and satisfying human relationships.

Murali Doraiswamy, a professor of medicine at Duke University, said: "Right now, all the evidence points to having a close human friend as the best solution to loneliness. But until society put social connectedness on top of the list, robots are a solution for the millions of people who have no friends."

Researchers may soon know whether people turn to AI for company. Tech firms are building chatbots to be ever more responsive to emotions. This week, OpenAI asked Scarlett Johansson to be the voice of their latest chatbot, GPT-4o, to "help consumers to feel comfortable". Johansson refused, but the chatbot came onto the market with a voice that friends and family thought was hers.

Bushby began his adventure in Punta Arenas, Chile, trekking north through South and North America, eventually reaching Alaska. In 2006, he attempted one of the most dangerous legs of the journey: crossing the frozen Bering-Strait into Siberia. Armed with a gun to scare off polar bears and forced to leap between moving blocks of ice, he achieved what few people on Earth have ever done.

His challenges didn't stop there. Last year, when he couldn't safely travel through a European country, he took on a new challenge — swimming across the Caspian Sea. With a support team and co-swimmer Angela Maxwell, Bushby spent 31 days completing the 179-mile crossing, swimming a total of 132 hours.

After reaching Azerbaijan, he continued through Turkey, and now stands less than 2,000 miles from home. He hopes to recenter Europe this summer and walk into Hull by September 2026. Returning home after nearly three decades, he admits, will feel unrealistic. He left when he was 29. He will return at 58. He says reuniting with family will mean "getting to know each other again".

Bushby walks an average of 30km a day and rests wherever he can find shelter. His mission, called the Goliath Expedition, has outlasted five UK prime ministers, a global health incident, and numerous wars — but his spirit remains as strong as it was in 1998. And the world is cheering him on as he enters the final chapter of one of the most extraordinary human endurance journeys ever attempted.

As a Dutch ceramics (陶艺) artist, the enormous influence my travels in China have had me is undeniable.

In 2012, I went to China's ceramics capital, Jingdezhen, for the first time from Delft, and then to Gaoling Mountain, where china clay (find) in ancient times. On that mountain, I saw the caves where people dug clay thousands of years ago the paths they used to walk along. I could even feel the history in the air; for a ceramics artist, that proved to be (emotion). Through ceramics, people can look back at history by understanding people's taste in (pot) they ate or drank from and how they made them.

During my visit to Shanghai Museum, I was deeply impressed by a 5,000-year-old ceramic piece simple shape reminded me of ancient pottery from South America, proving that in the beginning we were all the same.

Find books that genuinely interest you.

Make reading a social experience.

Reading doesn't have to be a lonely experience. . Not only can you have fun reading the book, you can also get into passionate discussions about it with other people, which can add to your enjoyment.

A company called Wing made public its new Australian drone service, extending its reach from an early trial in Canberra, making Australia the first country in the world to use home delivery drones in two areas.

James Ryan Burgess, the company's CEO, said the drone services were likely to extend into more areas in the future, with the country picked as a testbed for drone services worldwide.

Wing's latest drone project will see "tens of drones" deliver goods to houses in Queensland. In its Early Flyer program, people would be able to order a number of goods, with drone delivery offered free and within just minutes of placing an order. Its Canberra record for preparing and delivering a coffee stood at just three minutes.

Mr. Burgess said the company chose Queensland's Logan area because of its growing population and a large number of young families. But he said Wing would take to the skies in other parts of Australia in the future as many Australians wanted to try the technology and safety regulators were open to testing it.

"This will be the most modern drone delivery service in Australia but it's also the best in the world," he said. "Australia will always have our most modern drone technology, and we will take what we learn in Australia and use it around the world."

Wing delivery drones commonly fly at a height of 60m, Mr. Burgess said, could carry up to 1.5kg of goods, and lower packages to areas in front or backyards.

Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson said he hoped the regulator would allow Wing to fly its drones in Logan shortly, as the company had already shown its technology was safe in Canberra trials over the past two years.

I started working at the University of Leeds two years ago, following a career transition. Having moved to a new city, I was looking for things to do which would enable me to meet new people in my spare time. I noticed that the Business Confucius Institute (BCI) was offering Chinese evening classes on the university campus. Together with a friend who had also recently moved to the city, I decided to sign up for a beginner class.

This decision was made on a whim (心血来潮). There were no grand career ambitions, set goals or plans to travel to China in the immediate future. I was drawn to the challenge of learning a new language in part because it was something I had never done before. My mother is from Spain and I was raised in a bilingual household to speak fluent Spanish. However, there is a huge difference between acquiring a language in infancy (婴儿期) and learning one in adulthood. I was curious to find out how I would fare.

My first class took place in January 2017. Over a period of two months, I attended one lesson a week, each lasting one and a half hours. In each class my Chinese teacher would teach us what seemed like thousands of new words and phrases, then get us to act them out through role-playing in an attempt to simulate basic Chinese introductions and conversations.

It helped a lot that between classes I regularly practised everything I had learned with my Chinese language partners. Finding Chinese students who would like to practice English in exchange for Chinese was not difficult at the University of Leeds. My new Chinese friends helped to strengthen what I had been taught and helped to expand my vocabulary through regular conversation practice. They also taught me all about their fascinating culture and the more unusual or exotic aspects of their cuisine.

After more than a year on this journey, I have now completed the Business Confucius Level 3 course. I am now able to hold basic conversations with Chinese people on a variety of topics. I went to China through the BCI China Camp this year, which was an exciting opportunity to test my language skills and expand my knowledge of Chinese culture. I'm hoping to take another trip there next year to visit a friend who I met in Leeds through a language exchange. I look forward to it.
