Six months after suffering our defeat, we won our first game and our second, and continued to 10 . Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt it would be a 11 for us even if we lost the game. But my boys beat them, giving me one of the greatest 12 of my life!

2、阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
For most people, hearing the words "dinner's on the table" brings back memories of home-cooked meals shared with family. However, "Dinnertime" was once different and has experienced a series of evolutions.
Families didn't eat together in the evening before the 1700s. Family members would eat in shifts, setting up a small table outside, or by the fireplace. In colonial (殖民的) times, the midday meal — "dinner "— was the largest one, while "supper" was a smaller evening meal. That changed during the Industrial Revolution. Laborers began to eat a quick, lighter meal at midday, moving dinner to the end of the day as the main family meal. For families of all socioeconomic levels evening automatically became the time when everyone would be back at home together.
At present, flexible lifestyles, changing patterns of work-life balance have led to the appearance of a new kind of family dinner. A few clicks on the phone can bring people whatever their heart or stomach desires —Caribbean, Japanese, Italian and every other country's cuisine. This makes sense given the various dining preferences of the newest age group.
Regardless of who cooks the food, where it's eaten, and who you're eating with, the nightly tradition of sharing a meal while connecting with loved ones always stands strong.
A. People began to work outside of the home.
B. Family dinners are not always this flexible.
C. There's never been so much variety for dinner.
D. Despite the changes, the central concept remains.
E. It's a magical phrase representing a warm time at sunset.
F. Dinnertime started to be an important occasion.
G. Dinnertime served as a symbol of safety.

When preparing fruit and vegetables, many people will peel (削皮) them. But often, it's not necessary.
Fruit and vegetables are rich sources of nutrition like vitamins. Not consuming enough of these nutrient-rich foods is linked to an increased risk of diseases. Eating 400g of fruit and vegetables a day, as the WHO recommends, is difficult to achieve for many people. So could consuming fruit and vegetable peels help with this issue by adding important nutrients to people's diets?
They can certainly contribute. For example, nutritionally important amounts of vitamins and minerals are found in the peels of seven root vegetables: beetroot, field mustard, wild carrot, sweet potato, radish, ginger and white potato. And the US Department of Agriculture shows that unpeeled apples contain 15% more vitamin C, 267% more vitamin K, 20% more calcium and 85% more fibre than peeled apples.
Another reason is the effect on the environment. According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, uneaten food, including peels, generates 8%-10% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. New Zealand alone reports an annual wastage of 13,658 tonnes of vegetable peels and 986 tonnes of fruit peels.
Given the nutrient content of peels and its contribution to food waste, why do people peel fruit and vegetables at all? Some must be peeled as the outer parts don't taste nice, are hard to clean or cause harm. Also, peeling may be a necessary part of the recipe, for example, when making mashed potato. But many peels, such as carrot and kiwifruit, are suitable to be eaten, yet people habitually peel them anyway. Some people peel fruit and vegetable because they are concerned about pesticides (杀虫剂) on the surface.
If you want to find out more about fruit and vegetable peels and what to do with it, there is lots of advice online including help on how to deal with peels. With a little investigation and creativity, you can help to reduce waste and increase your fruit and vegetables intake.
(1)、Where is the text most probably taken from?A、A cooking guidebook. B、A life magazine. C、A poster about environment. D、An ad about a health website.(2)、How can eating fruit and vegetable peels benefit people's health?A、Not eating the peels will lead to higher risks of some diseases. B、Some significant vitamins and minerals are only found in peels. C、Eating peels can increase people's intake of important nutrients. D、Peels have more nutrients than fruit and vegetables' inner parts.(3)、What is the author's purpose in mentioning New Zealand?A、To highlight the serious food problem in the country. B、To draw our attention to greenhouse gas emissions. C、To call on New Zealanders not to throw away peels. D、To show peels' negative impact on the environment.(4)、Why do so many people peel carrots?A、Because some recipes tell them to do so. B、Because the outer parts are hard to clean. C、Because there exists too much pesticides. D、Because they're used to peeling vegetables. -

We all know the feeling—you want to check what someone you care about has been up to on social media (社交媒体), and suddenly you find you are refused. It's the start of mixed feelings—when did this happen? Did I do anything wrong? What are they trying to hide from me?
And that's what half of Chinese parents have to deal with when they try to browse (浏览) their children's WeChat Moments, also known as "Friends' Circle". According to a survey by Tencent, about 52 percent of WeChat users aged 18 to 29 block their parents on Moments. The young interviewees said that parents "are worried about everything", along with reasons such as fear of parents' disagreement, avoiding parents' nagging (唠叨), and protecting their private life. Xie Yun, a 26-year-old, said that while she didn't block her parents completely, they were in a specific group with which she only shared positive posts. "I don't want my parents to see failures in my life," she said. Once her parents saw a Moments picture of her hand getting burned while cooking, and they traveled all the way to her city to make sure she was all right.
The report also found that more than 49 percent of Chinese parents use WeChat as a main tool to communicate with their children. Roughly 36 percent of the parents who took the survey said they checked every post made by their children. When asked how they would respond to being blocked, some parents said they would start a conversation with their children to find out the reason, while others said they wouldn't care. And some parents just were shrewder than their kids in this hide-and-seek game online. "I didn't realize I was blocked until I compared what I could see on my phone to what my son's aunt could see," said Chen, a mother of a 27-year-old son. "I chose to remain silent on this and now I'm following my son's posts through his aunt."
(1)、What causes mixed feelings according to Paragraph 1?A、Stress from being controlled. B、Being turned down on social media. C、Checking social media frequently. D、Anxiety about the safety on social media.(2)、What can we know about Xie Yun's WeChat Moments?A、It didn't have pictures. B、It only had positive posts. C、It was set to be seen by herself. D、It was open to her parents partly.(3)、What does the underlined word "shrewder" mean?A、Calmer. B、Securer. C、Smarter. D、Tougher.(4)、What does the text mainly talk about?A、Tough parent-child communication on WeChat. B、Changes on the current parent-child relationship. C、Arguments about whether to block parents. D、Ways to avoid being blocked on WeChat. -

The sun was rising when Daryl's delivery (递送) truck with goods reached the highway. This was the best time of day to drive, when the roads were wide open and empty. He felt sure he was going to make it to Los Angeles before midnight.
Then he saw it, a large lump in the middle of the road. He stopped and found the lump was a girl. He tried shaking her awake but she wouldn't move, so he carried her to the side of the road. An hour later he arrived at the police station. After explaining what had happened, he prepared to leave, but the policeman said he needed to make a report. Daryl knew it was impossible for him to get to Los Angeles on time now.
Three hours later the report was done and the girl had recovered somewhat. She explained that she had fallen on the highway, weak from hunger. She also thanked Daryl for saving her life. Daryl told her that he had been happy to help, but as he left the police station he knew his boss wouldn't be happy.
Just as he was about to start the car, his mother called. "Have you seen?" she said, "a bridge collapsed two hours ago, the one that you drive over on the way to Los Angeles."

On a hot September afternoon, Peter and his friend Isabel were on their way to the library. When they passed by Tubman park, Isabel suggested cutting through it to get to the library. As they entered the park, the sight of the swings (秋千) and the merry-go-round brought back a flood of memories of their childhood spent there. But now everything looked so old, sad, and dirty. Litter lay on the ground next to an overflowing trash bin. There were still young schoolchildren playing there but they had to avoid the trash that littered the playground. A little boy told them that the city took the other trash cans away and the remaining one never got emptied often.
As they headed toward the library, the two high school students wrinkled their forehead. In the library, they encountered Mrs. Evans, their kind-hearted fifth-grade teacher, retired yet still passionate. Mrs. Evans listened as Isabel and Peter eagerly explained what they'd seen. Finally, she recommended them to go to the City Hall to voice their concerns.
The next day, Isabel and Peter went into the building of the City Hall but were met with an impatient officer. They were informed that the city couldn't help with their problem due to a tight budget. Discouraged, they left and turned to Mrs. Evans for help.
Under her guidance, they decided to ask Go Green, a non-profit organization whose goal is to protect the environment, for help. "This group is good at raising money for projects just like yours, " said Mrs. Evans. She promised to arrange them to present their ideas to Go Green. Hearing this, their face lit up.
Two main tasks remained ahead: researching ways to clean up the park and preparing a convincing presentation. As Isabel was good at researching while Peter always had a talent for speaking, they cooperated quite well. Isabel learned from a science magazine that a new type of trash bin can squeeze the trash down without being emptied often, which saves time, money, and energy. Based on this, Peter practiced his presentation over and over again.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A week later, Peter stood nervously at the back of the hall where Go Green was meeting.
After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news.

"Just think positively!"
"It could be worse."
"You should look at the bright side!"
We've all heard (and maybe used) these phrases without much thought. But they could be contributing to a culture of toxic (有毒的) positivity. For those new to this term, it might sound like an oxymoron (矛盾修辞法). How can positivity be toxic? Isn't it supposed to be helpful, or "positive", as the name suggests?
"Toxic positivity is when somebody avoids all negative thoughts or feelings, pretending everything is going well when it is not," explains Melissa Dowd, a therapist at PlushCare, a virtual health platform. Whitney Goodman, another licensed psychotherapist, describes toxic positivity as the "endless pressure to be happy and positive, no matter what the circumstances are."It's also something we can cause other people to experience.
Toxic positivity causes us to suppress our emotions, which can make them worse. "Although it can be helpful to look on the bright side when facing challenges," Dowd says, "not coping with negative feelings in a healthy way in the moment can lead to those feelings resurfacing later in different areas of your life or as a form of anxiety." "If I feel like you're going to set me aside, I'm going to stop sharing how I'm feeling," Goodman adds.
If you're using toxic positivity against yourself, Goodman suggests remembering it's OK if you're upset about something. It's valid if something annoys you. "Allow ourselves and other people to share when they're going through a difficult time," she says. Dowd adds that it's essential that "we all learn to cope with and process our emotions in a healthy way as opposed to avoiding how we feel" as life's stressors continue to rise. For example, instead of simply saying "Just think positively," we'd better say "Sometimes bad things happen. How can I help?"
A. Are there ways to avoid toxic positivity?
B. Toxic positivity also interrupts connection.
C. It can harm people who are going through difficult times.
D. Expressing toxic positivity to others may look like offering them a simple solution.
E. They become more intense and can also cause long-lasting health concerns in the future.
F. Experts say constant forced positivity can lead to the opposite, and have a negative effect.
G. This is what we may bring on to ourselves by not allowing negative thoughts and feelings.

In America, drivers' education is part of the regular high school curriculum(课程). Every student in his or her second year of high school is required to take a class in driver's education. However, unlike other courses, it is not given during the regular school year. Instead it is a summer course.
The course is divided up into two parts: class time for learning laws and regulations, and driving time to practise driving. Class time is not unlike any other class. The students study the basic traffic laws from a text to pass the written driving test that is given to anyone who wants to get a driver's license.
Driving time is a chance for the students to get behind the wheel (steering wheel) and practise starting steering, backing up, parking, switching lanes, turning corners, and all the other maneuvers (操作) required to drive a car. Each student is required to drive a total of six hours. The students are divided up into groups of four. The students and the instructor go out driving for two hour blocks of time. Thus, each student gets half an hour driving time per outing. The instructor and "driver" sit in the front seats and the other three students sit in the back.
After the student has passed the driver's education course and reached the appropriate age to drive(this age differs in every state but in most cases the person must be 16 years old),they can go to a designated(指定的) state office to take their driver's test, which is made up of an eye examination, a written test, and a road test. The person must pass all three tests in order to be given a driver's license. If the person does well in his or her driver's education class, he or she will pass the test ____ and get a driver's license.

BEIJING/SAO PAULO-Chinese traditions like cockfighting, like-flying and fireworks have been quite common in Brazil for many years.
Despite the thousands of kilometers between them, China's historical and artistic mark on Brazil has existed for about 300 years, said Brazilian sinologist (汉学家) Jose Roberto Teixeira Leite in his book China in Brazil. Influences from China can date from the colonial period, even up to the time after after Brazil's independence."
The commercial relationship between the two countries has existed for a long time, he noted, adding that incoming ships would fill up Brazilian cities like Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Recife with Chinese products like porcelain(瓷器), silk and fans He also found Chinese influence not only in the arts and architecture of Brazil but also in the most diverse areas of Brazilian society, like the economy, medicine and popular culture. "At the end of the 19th century, in Pernambuco, (a state in northeastern Brazil), there was a custom that children slept with clothes decorated with Chinese dragons." Teixeira added.
The book took him about 15 years to finish. "The impact of the book surprised me, though it
was published by a university publisher and it had a print run of just 1,000 copies," he said."Some
have said that the book represents a turning point in Chinese studies in Brazil."
Besides, the sinologist did research on the mark and presence of China in the architecture and
arts of Brazil."It was through art that China awoke in me, first, curiosity, after that, interest, and
finally, passion," Teixeira said.
In 1992, the sinologist visited Macao to do research for his doctoral thesis about the marks and presence of China in Brazil, and that trip impressed him a lot. New South Wales, Australia, is setting up cameras as part of an effort to reduce the number of
people preoccupied with wireless devices while they drive. It will be the first area in the world to use the technology to punish drivers distracted (分心) with telephone calls, social media or text messages.
Road Safety experts are concerned about the growing number of accidents involving drivers using smart phones on the state's roads. They say drivers who use phones while driving greatly
increase their chances of being involved in an accident.
The New South Wales government plans to place 45 Mobile Phone Detection Cameras across
the state by December. Each phone detection unit contains two cameras. One camera takes pictures of a vehicle's registration plate (牌照). A second camera looks through the front windrow of a car or truck to see what drivers are doing with their hands.
The units use artificial intelligence to set aside drivers who are not touching their phones. Human beings then confirm if the pictures show illegal behavior before notice is sent to the vehicle's registered owner. A violation(违 反) carries fine of $232. Some cameras will be permanently set up on roadsides. Others will be moved, from time to time, around the state.
Two fixed cameras took photographs of 8.5 million vehicles as part of a six-month test earlier this year. The cameras took photos of more than 100,000 drivers with their hands on phones. One driver was using a phone and another electronic device, an Apple iPad, at the same time. Another driver had a passenger guide the vehicle while they both held phones, the state government said.
