1、 阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
An idol is someone who we respect or love. However, unlike many of my classmates, my idol is not a film star, a famous writer or a sportsman. He is neither a world leader nor an important person from history. My idol is my dad.
Most people believe that a man should go out and work. However, when I was only a five-year-old boy, I was seriously ill and needed attention all the time. My mother and father both worked and my grandparents lived far away. This was a big problem. My dad knew how much my mum loved her job, so he stopped working to stay at home and look after me. Many men in this situation would want their wives to stay with the child, but my dad always thinks about others before himself. This made me start to respect him.
My dad later took a job and worked at night. He chose the job so that he would only be out of the house when I was sleeping. Since then, my dad has helped and supported me in everything I do. I remember when I was learning to ride a bike. My dad ran behind me and held the back of the bicycle so that I would not fall. I felt so safe because I knew he was near. I did not notice when he stopped holding me. Soon, I was able to ride by myself.
My family is not rich, and we do not own a big house or an expensive car. My dad has showed me that something is more important than money. My dad gives me his time. Although he now works hard every day and is often very busy, he always makes time to stay with me. He helps me with my homework, and plays games with me at weekends. We make and fly our own kites, go for walks in the countryside, and even cook together. He taught me that I can achieve anything if I really work hard on it.
My dad is my idol because he showed me the most important things in life.
(1)、What's wrong with the writer when he was five?(2)、Why did the writer's dad take a job to work at night?(3)、According to the writer's dad, what is more important than money?(4)、Who is your idol? Why is he/she your idol? (Give at least two reasons) -

With most people staying at home because of COVID-19 (新冠), live streaming (直播) has become more and more popular. It is not only fun and interesting, but has also provided a new stage (舞台) for traditional culture artists.
On video sites and apps such as Douyin and Bilibili, Some of them sing Peking Opera, some show their hand-made products, while others perform traditional Chinese music.
Li Jun is a laosheng (old male role) Peking Opera performer with the Shanghai Jingju Theater Company. During the outbreak (疫情), Unlike performing on a normal stage, Li uses everyday places as his stage, including his backyard, and even the kitchen. Awe is the feeling of amazement and respect mixed with surprise. Research shows that awe experiences decrease stress and anxiety and increase positive (积极的) emotions and overall satisfaction in life. It can also improve our relationships, making us more likely to help others and more supported.
Most of us connect awe with something unusual and beautiful: nature, music or a spiritual experience. But ordinary people can bring about awe too. Research shows we can be awed by our nearest and dearest—the people sitting next to us, or talking on the other end of the phone. Psychologists call this interpersonal awe.
Often, this interpersonal awe is how people respond (反应) to life's big changes, like seeing a baby's first steps or a friend fighting against cancer. Yet interpersonal awe happens in our everyday life, too. John Bargh, a psychologist, said he was "truly awe struck" by his then 5-year-old daughter while dining in a McDonald's years ago. When she heard another child crying across the restaurant, she took the toy from her Happy Meal, walked over and handed it to him.
We can't make someone else behave in an awesome way, but we can get prepared to notice it when they do and take steps to strengthen the emotion's positive effects.
To increase your chances of feeling awed by people around you, Marianna Craziosi, an expert in positive psychology, suggests you direct your attention to people's positive sides and catch them at their best. You may think your brother or friend is selfish; there may be a little truth to that, but it's never the whole story. "Try to find examples of him helping others or doing something great. In other words, become a field scientist, like Jane Goodall," Graziosi said.
To help you recognize and remember a special experience, say out loud "Wow, that was awesome!" when awe strikes you. Enjoy it in the moment and tell others about it. This will strengthen your positive emotions. And recall it or write about it later. Studies show awe can be drawn again simply by remembering an awe experience.
When you feel awed by people around you, thank them and let them know just how much their actions affect you. This makes the other person feel good and can give your relationship an improvement. And you'll also have high levels of happiness and psychological well-being.
Awe could be anywhere. Perhaps awe, while an ordinary response to the extraordinary, is also an extraordinary response to the ordinary.
(1)、You are likely to feel interpersonal awe when ____.A、you listen to a CD of a popular singer B、you read a book about a famous person C、you get a surprise help from your family D、you watch a beautiful sunset with friends(2)、By saying the underlined words in Paragraph 5, Graziosi suggests that we should ____.A、read about how to get on with others B、try to get a full picture of other people C、watch carefully how others do their jobs D、learn from an expert in positive psychology(3)、The writer would probably agree that ____.A、awe often comes from senses of satisfaction B、awe moments are usually very difficult to create C、nature provides the most awe in our everyday life D、recalling awe experiences strengthens relationships(4)、Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?A、Respond to Awe in Everyday Life B、Spread Awe to People Around C、Express Thanks to Awesome People D、Take down Awesome Moments -

While the pandemic(流行病) has prevented people from traveling afar, there's a silver lining in that dark cloud: micro-tourism, or mini-vacations.
Micro-tourism refers to short-distance(短距离) travel in which people drive two or three hours to a nearby place and spend two or three days there. Instead of requiring a plan with lots of details and money, micro-tourism allows travelling to be simpler and less expensive.
According to China Daily, micro-tourism began catching on about seven years ago. With the pandemic prevention making long trips less convenient, more and more people choose to take short trips instead.
Mark Hou from Beijing is one of them. Before the pandemic, he preferred taking long trips abroad or visiting other places in China. But the pandemic meant he had to adapt(适应) to a new travel style.
"Traveling a long distance means you should take public transportation, like planes. But that would be likely to increase the chances of infection (感染)," Hou said. "To stay healthy, short-distance travel is the better choice." But that doesn't mean Hou has lost fun during his short trips.
After a long and tiring week at work, Hou likes to invite friends and drive to the countryside near Beijing on weekends. "Walking in the mountains or having a hot spring, we can get the fresh air and have some exercise," Hou explained. "That can really move the stress out of our daily life."
To meet the new needs, many cities have also created more chances for tourists. For example, Shanghai started a number of micro-tourism products for half-day and one-day tours, including exploring cultural heritage(遗产)sites in the city and experiencing country life.
"With these programs, young tourists no longer look to get ‘distance', but are willing to find new ways to experience their cities," Feng Rao, head of a tourism research center, told People's Daily. Travel doesn't mean you need to go far away to find a place to relax. That's also the aim of the micro-tourism.
(1)、Which of the following is true about micro-tourism?A、It needs plenty of time and money. B、It has more fun than long-distance trip. C、It became popular about seven years ago. D、It has prevented people taking distant trips.(2)、Why does the writer talk about Mark Hou's experience?A、To explain how to make a short-distance trip. B、To introduce some places of interest in China. C、To show why people choose short-distance trips. D、To compare long-distance trips with short-distance ones.(3)、Which of the following could be the best title for the passage?A、Adapting to a new style B、Returning to normal life C、Developing a popular hobby D、Experiencing different cultures -

On 20 July 1969, the world celebrated an important moment in history when American astronaut, Neil Armstrong, became the first man to walk on the moon, making a giant leap for humanity. For more than 50 years, human beings have tried many times to understand the space environment. These efforts have paid off. Today, we are in a better position to understand our universe in which we live, thanks to space exploration.
Space exploration has triggered advances in science and technology which have benefitted humans and improved the quality of life on Earth. These benefits are related to space technology such as satellite communications, global positioning system(GPS) and weather forecasting. The development of satellite technology, for instance, makes telecommunications possible, connecting people from different parts of the world through satellite television, phones, radio and Internet access. Today, space technology also enables us to have virtual (虚拟的) meetings and lessons, making work and study from home possible during the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the excitement and curiosity generated (产生), space exploration is attracting young people to careers in engineering, science, technology and mathematics, which creates innovations (创新) in science and technology. In countries such as America, Canada and Europe, space exploration has also generated jobs in fields related to engineering, technology and science. Even if interested youngsters do not end up in a job in these areas, space technology enriches their imagination about the possibility of life beyond Earth and space travel. To this end, space exploration continues to encourage human imagination, inspiring (激励) people to write stories and create movies, photographs and songs about space exploration.
Although there are many benefits, space exploration has often been criticized (批评)for its high cost. According to the University of Florida, it costs about $500 million to launch (发射) a space shuttle and many argue that this money could be better spent on solving the problems on Earth such as hunger, pollution, diseases and climate change. Although space exploration cannot directly provide immediate solutions to these problems, it generates many useful technologies and new knowledge in sciences necessary to improve the conditions of human life on Earth.
Every year, about a thousand innovations in the space programmes find their way into earthly technology that leads to better farming; better medical instruments; and more energy-efficient vehicles(交通工具). As a result, the money spent on space exploration does finally benefit human beings.
There is no doubt that space exploration has produced many benefits for humanity. It has also encouraged many to understand Earth and the universe in a deeper way. In the coming decade, we can continue to expect more exciting discoveries. We may eventually even find another planet where humans can live.
(1)、The words "triggered advances" in Paragraph 2 probably mean" ____" .A、led to great progress B、slowed down the speed C、set back future growth D、caught up the development(2)、What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?A、The benefits created by space exploration. B、The high-tech jobs generated by space exploration. C、The imaginative art works inspired by space exploration. D、The abilities youngsters developed through space exploration.(3)、According to the writer, the money spent on space exploration ____.A、solves the worst problems on Earth directly B、benefits humans through space programmes C、fails to improve the conditions of human life D、limits the development of earthly technology(4)、What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?A、To introduce technology programmes in space exploration. B、To compare different jobs generated by space exploration. C、To present the benefits brought by space exploration. D、To encourage people to carry on space exploration. -

This was our last trip before high school. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. But at the roller coaster, my stomach felt too tight to say anything at all.
The big girl beside us was Tasha, my best friend Dan's sister. She was a singer. She was fantastic on the stage. Just the image of her up there made me think she was so cool.
Our roller coaster car pulled up, and my friends rushed forward, I felt my legs couldn't move. All I could think about was the roller coaster might fly off into the sky. Without a word, I turned, ran out of the line. I knew what people were saying about me, but I didn't care. I just kept moving past the crowd, found a bench ( 长椅 ) near the bathrooms to sit down and put my head in my hands.
"Hey! Steve! Are you okay? " I looked up. It was Tasha!
"Oh, uh, yeah, I just started feeling, um, sick." I responded.
"You know, it's okay if you were scared. Everyone gets scared." She said.
"You don't." I said in a low voice. "I've seen you on that stage. You were fearless."
"I'm glad it looks like I'm not scared!" Tasha smiled. "But that's not true. I get really scared and nervous before I perform."
Before I noticed she was on the bench by my side, her words moved on.
"Hey, look, singing is important to me. And I want to share what I love with my people. So, even if I'm scared. I do it anyway. I push through the fear and just get up and do it. Is taking roller coaster important to you?"
"Yeah, it is. And I want to be able to look back and remember having fun with my friends. I don't want to remember running away and sitting alone by the bathrooms."
"Everyone gets scared, but brave people don't let fear control them." She looked into my eyes. Still being lost in what she said, I saw my friends coming towards me.
I got up and went with them to the coaster.
When we were leaving, Tasha took a photo of my big smile in front of the coaster. I put it on my door. It stayed there through all four years of my high school, a reminder of what was more important to me than fear.

Pumpkin(南瓜)carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage — I carried an 85-pounder back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I'm unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork(软木塞)forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. "I'm going to set it down, now," I said, and with Jason helping to support its weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. "I can't get it out!" I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.

Pets should not be left alone for too long during the day. But our busy lifestyles will sometimes tear us away. Here are some tips to keep your pets content.
Cats don't simply curl up and sleep when you leave. If they have a friend or sibling they will create games and comfort one another but if they are alone they will need more stimuli (刺激物). Leaving the TV or radio on can help, and while you work out their favorite channel, you can't go far wrong with classical music.
They will keep your cat physically and mentally busy, which will lessen the separation anxiety. Some of the toys are also practical for your home, such as scratching posts to prevent the furniture from being scratched.
It's not just cats that suffer from separation anxiety Dogs also dislike being left alone and unfortunately they can't tell whether it's been ten minutes or ten hours: the displeasure felt is very similar.
Background noise from the TV or radio can help them to feel less alone. There is even a dog TV channel designed to create happy and calm thoughts in dogs, showing idyllic scenes of fields, beaches and other dogs.
You can also gradually lengthen the distance and time of your separation until your dogs can be left alone for 20 minutes without showing their usual symptoms of sadness and stress.
A. A number of cat toys are also helpful.
B. Schedule daily play sessions with your cats.
C. But you can help ease the negative feeling at least.
D. That creates a lot of guilt and worry for their well-being.
E. In this way, they can disassociate your absence with negativity.
F. They need stimulation for the period when they will be left alone.
G. Over time, they will look forward to their separation to get a reward.

People may wonder after using up Earth entirely, where are we going?
The most common target is our neighbour Mars. It is about half the size of Earth. From an astronomer's perspective, Mars is Earth's identical twin. And Mars has been in the news a lot lately, promoted as a possible homeland for humanity in the near future. While human-led missions to Mars seem likely in the coming decades, what are our prospects of long-term habitation on Mars? Present-day Mars is a cold, dry world with a very thin atmosphere. Its average surface pressure is less than 1 per cent of Earth's. Surviving without a pressure suit in such an environment is impossible. The surface temperature ranges from 30℃ in the summer, down to-140℃ in the winter; these extreme temperature changes are due to the thin atmosphere on Mars.
Despite these clear challenges proposals for changing Mars into a world suitable for long-term human habitation abound(大量出现).Mars is further from the Sun than Earth,so it would require significantly more greenhouse gases to achieve a temperature similar to Earth's. Thickening the atmosphere by releasing CO2 in the Martian surface is the most popular "solution" to the thin atmosphere on Mars. However, every suggested method of releasing the carbon stored in Mars requires technology and resources far beyond what we are currently capable of. What's more, a recent NASA study determined that there isn't even enough CO2 on Mars to warm it sufficiently.
Even if we could find enough CO2, we would still be left with an atmosphere we couldn't breathe. Earth's atmosphere contains only 0.04 per cent CO2, and we cannot tolerate an atmosphere high in CO2. For an atmosphere with Earth's atmospheric pressure, CO2 levels as high as 1 per cent can cause sleepiness in humans, and once we reach levels of 10 per cent CO2, we will suffocate even if there is abundant oxygen. The proposed absolute best-case scenario (设 想)for changing Mars leaves us with an atmosphere we are incapable of breathing.
Living on a warming Earth presents many challenges. Scientists study Mars and other planets to better understand ourselves. In searching the universe, we are not looking for an escape to our problems: Earth is our unique and only home in the universe. There is no planet B.
(1)、What contributes to the extreme temperature changes on Mars?A、Its small size. B、Its thin atmosphere. C、Its low surface pressure. D、Its significant seasonal changes.(2)、What might be suggested for changing Mars into a habitable planet?A、Reducing CO2 stored on Mars. B、Increasing emissions of CO2 on Mars. C、Building more greenhouses to keep warm. D、Shortening the distance between Mars and the Sun.(3)、What does the underlined word "suffocate" mean in Paragraph4?A、Choke. B、Faint. C、Hurt. D、Explode.(4)、Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?A、Is there planet B? B、How to survive on Mars? C、What life will be like on Mars? D、Mars or Earth-must we choose? -

Ralph Emerson once said that the purpose of life is not to be happy, but to be useful, to be loving, to make some difference in the world. While we appreciate such words of wisdom, we rarely try to follow them in our lives.
Most people prefer to live a good life themselves, ignoring their responsibilities for the world. This narrow perception of a good life may provide short-term benefits, but is sure to lead to long-term harm and suffering. A good life based on comfort and luxury may eventually lead to more pain because we spoil our health and even our character, principles, ideals, and relationships.
What then, is the secret of a good life? A good life is a process, not a state of being: a direction, not a destination. We have to earn a good life by first serving others without any expectation in return because their happiness is the very source of our own happiness. More importantly, we must know ourselves inside out. Only when we examine ourselves deeply can we discover our abilities and recognize our limitations, and then work accordingly to create a better world.
The first requirement for a good life is having a loving heart. When we do certain right things merely as a duty, we find our job so tiresome that we'll soon burn out. However, when we do that same job out of love, we not only enjoy what we do, but also do it with an effortless feeling.
However, love alone is insufficient to lead a good life. Love sometimes blinds us to the reality. Consequently, our good intentions may not lead to good results. To achieve desired outcome, those who want to do good to others also need to equip themselves with accurate world knowledge. False knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance. If love is the engine of a car, knowledge is the steering wheel(方向盘). If the engine lacks power, the car can't move; if the driver loses control of the steering, a road accident probably occurs. Only with love in heart and the right knowledge in mind can we lead a good life.
With love and knowledge, we go all out to create a better world by doing good to others. When we see the impact of our good work on the world we give meaning to our life and earn lasting joy and happiness.

I'm an 18-year-old pre-medical student, tall and good-looking, with two short story books and quite a number of essays to my credit. Why am I singing such praises of myself? Just to explain that the attainment of self-pride comes from a great deal of self-love, and to attain it, one must first learn to accept oneself as one is. That was where my struggle began.
Born and raised in Africa, I had always taken my African origin as burden. My self-dislike was further fueled when my family had to relocate to Norway, where I attended a high school. Compared to all the white girls around me, with their golden hair and delicate lips, I, a black girl, had curly hair and full, red lips. My nose often had a thin sheet of sweat on it, whatever the weather was. I just wanted to bury myself in my shell crying "I'm so different!"
What also contributed to my self-dislike was my occasional stuttering(口吃), which had weakened my self-confidence. It always stood between me and any fine opportunity. I'd taken it as an excuse to avoid any public speaking sessions, and unknowingly let it rule over me.
Fortunately, as I grew older, there came a turning point. One day a white girl caught my eye on the school bus when she suddenly turned back. To my astonishment, she had a thin sheet of sweat on her nose too, and it was in November! "Wow," I whispered to myself, "this isn't a genetic(遗传的) disorder after all. It's perfectly normal." Days later, my life took another twist(转折). Searching the Internet for stuttering cures, I accidentally learned that such famous people as Isaac Newton and Winston Churchill also stuttered. I was greatly relieved and then an idea suddenly hit me—if I'm smart, I shouldn't allow my stuttering to stand between me and my success.
Another boost to my self-confidence came days later as I was watching the news about Oprah Winfrey, the famous talk show host and writer—she's black too! Whenever I think of her story and my former dislike of my color, I'm practically filled with shame.
Today, I've grown to accept what I am with pride; it simply gives me feeling of uniqueness. The idea of self-love has taken on a whole new meaning for me: there's always something fantastic about us, and what we need to do is learn to appreciate it.

D、Her desire for chances to improve herself.(3)、How did the author feel on noticing the similarity between her and the girl on the bus?A、Blessed and proud. B、Confused and afraid. C、Amazed and relieved. D、Shocked and ashamed.(4)、What can best summarize the message contained in the passage?A、Pride comes before a fall. B、Where there is a will, there is a way. C、Self-acceptance is based on the love for oneself. D、Self-love is key to the attainment of self-pride. -

Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes. For most students, it's the first time they're living away from home and managing their own life. Not surprisingly, adapting to this new lifestyle can be challenging. The following four tips will make high school graduates better prepared for college life.
Goal setting
When setting goals, whether they're academic, career, or personal, remember they should be attainable but not too easy, so that you really have to push yourself to achieve them, and feel rewarded when you do. Writing down your goals and breaking down each huge, long-term goal into smaller more practical ones can help make it feel more real, and writing out a plan for achieving it can give you a roadmap to success.
Interpersonal skills
At college, you will interact with fellow students, professors, librarians, and many others. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships during this time, and get more out of them. If you feel that your interpersonal skills need some work, practice asking thoughtful questions and listening closely, develop your understanding by putting yourself in someone else's shoes, and enhance your self-confidence.
Studying
With fewer in-class hours and more on-your-own learning, you're required to really digest learning material rather than simply memorize facts. To be successful in college you'll need to learn how to integrate large amounts of information obtained through reading, do research, and write papers. Organization is the key, so if you are not someone who is naturally organized, set up your study schedule.
Budgeting
Managing money is a critical life skill, and for many, it is at college that they develop it for the first time. Start by estimating your financial balance. Then give high priority to the expenses on basic needs and determine how much money to set aside every month to cover those costs. Don't forget about savings … and the fun stuff(movies, dinners out), too.
(1)、Who is this passage most probably written for?A、College teachers. B、University graduates. C、High school teachers. D、Would-be college students.(2)、What is the key to successful college study according to the author?A、Being well-organized. B、Being well-informed. C、Effective reading skills. D、Reliable research methods.(3)、To learn how to manage money, the first thing to do is ____.A、save money for financial investment B、estimate one's income and expenses C、set aside money for fun activities D、open a personal bank account -

I stood beside the hospital bed where Russ, my husband lay pale and scared, still dressed in the clothes he wore to the emergency room at 2:00 A. M. It was now late afternoon. The local ER had transported him to a large hospital two hours from home, and after a day of testing, the doctor stood at the end of the bed with the lab result-leukemia(白血病).
The doctor said, "You'll be here at least a month. We'll move you to the leukemia floor. "Then he looked at me. "You're welcome to stay as much as you can. The rooms are private. He'll need you here. "
It was March, The end of a school year was approaching. My days with my high-school seniors were limited. How could I prepare four weeks of lesson plans and hand my kids off to a substitute teacher to release into the world? A month! Could we afford being in the hospital that long? Our insurance was good, but we'd still have to pay our part of the medical expenses. My meals wouldn't be covered, and parking was so expensive! My head couldn't do the math.
"You should go home and rest. Come back tomorrow," Russ said, giving me a list of items to bring back. Reluctantly, I left his room.
The next morning, I packed the car with everything I imagined we'd need for our hospital stay and headed to school to write subplans and see my students. Because we live in a small community, they would have heard about my husband's case. I would assure them he would be fine, although I didn't know that, and that I would be fine. I'd encourage them to be their best selves for the substitute-and for me-while I was on family leave.
When I entered my classroom, the chatter stopped. I could feel my students assess me as I walked to the front of the room, so I put on a smile and continued to my platform.
