Find sailing lessons

It is important to do sailing under the guidance of experienced instructors. Youth sailing programs are a good choice for you. Find sailing clubs and search for youth lessons near you.. You will find out what lessons or camps they recommend for kids in your age group.

When you're starting sailing, start with something for beginners. For example, you'd better operate a small sailboat made for kids. You need to know how to control sails to catch the wind and get the boat forward. You have to be able to move the sails, as well as use a rudder to direct the boat where you want it to go.

If there's any modern method for traditional Chinese music to live on, it must be digital technology.

Recently, a digital protection project targeting traditional Chinese instrumental music was started by the Chinese National Academyof Arts and Tencent Interactive Entertainment, a leading internet entertainment company in China. The project was intended to revive (复兴) traditional music by using digital technology to restore and preserve original music sources. Based on these sources, digital albums, social media mini-programs and game background music can be created. These are all ways of transmitting and promoting preserved music to future generations.

The first traditional instrument to get this kind of "rebirth" was an ancient set of chime bells originally owned by Marquis Yi of the Zeng State (曾侯乙编钟). The set is a large group of 65 percussion instruments (打击乐器) dating back to the Warring States Period. As the largest set of bianzhong ever discovered in China, the chime bells have a wide range of tones and special features. This made it really challenging for the music technology providers of the project. "This is the first time that I have ever seen such a large, unexpected composition because it's not one set of instruments, but 65 different pieces," said a sound designer Zhang Xin.

To perfectly record sounds of the chime bells, they did a number of trials. After reading a lot of papers and historical books, they tried to work out where to put the recording microphone. The team tested and tried many forms of field recording technology from different distances.Finally 613 sounds were collected.

So far, they've used the bianzhong sounds to compose 9 songs digitally, forming a new album to touch people's soul.

Lots of people are familiar with waving handheld remotes when playing video games. However, Murphy from England is applying the idea to something else: helping children and young people who are struggling with their mental health.

He has created Contr, a combination of two pieces of stick-shaped handheld equipment and a smartphone app, which can be used to practise mindfulness - a form of meditation (冥想) and relaxation. The Contr equipment uses sounds, lights and vibrations to guide people through different mindfulness activities and games. These include balancing on one leg and breathing in and out as if you are a balloon, while the app records your progress.

Murphy came up with the idea while he was studying product design at the University of Brighton, in England. He had seen the challenges faced by his younger brother, who has ADHD, a condition that makes it hard for people to sit still and concentrate. To help his brother out, Murphy was determined to design something useful.

"When we spoke to parents, we found that it wasn't just young people with ADHD that needed mindfulness; it could be useful for other mental health issues too," says Murphy. "The benefits of mindfulness are well known, but for a child mindfulness can be a little tedious and passive," adds Murphy's father, John, "The idea here was to make mindfulness fun."

Contr will begin taking orders in September, 2023 on Starter website. Murphy and John are already thinking how it could develop. They strongly hope Contr will be able to help young people who are feeling anxious or struggling to concentrate.

Born in a village in Gansu province, Zhu Yanjun had never left his hometown in his early age. Some of his friends dropped out of middle school and worked in the city. Hearing about their exciting lives there, he did not go to high school and instead became a migrant worker.

For 30 years, Zhu had been a migrant worker in different cities. Although he only had a middle school education, his passion for reading never faded. The passion was inspired by his Chinese teacher in middle school who has published many articles in magazines.

"I also wanted to publish stories", he said to himself. So he started to read. No matter where he worked, he went to local bookstores regularly with a notebook in order to write down wonderful paragraphs and memorize them. In this way, he got to know the history, traditions and landscapes of different places. Over the years, he has read thousands of poems and can recite over 1000 of them. When reading poems from the Tang Dynasty and poems written by Chairman Mao Zedong, he appreciated the beauty of their language. He said, "One can get inspired to have a rich spiritual world and powerful mind from reading." Whenever he faces any challenge, he thinks of Chairman Mao's words: "Nothing in the world is difficult for one who sets his mind to it."

This year, he finally appeared in the Chinese Poetry Competition hosted by CCTV and won the second place, impressing the audience deeply with his good performance. The local government decided to hire him as a staff member at the cultural center. Although his income is less than before, this job gives him more time to explore poems. Besides, he has more opportunities to share his study experience with others and inspire more people around to explore the beauty of reading.

 The word "toad"(癞蛤蟆) would be very easy in an English-language spelling bee, but not in a nationally televised contest in China.  

 In Chinese, toad has throe characters that  (make) up of 46 individual strokes (笔画). Yu Shuang, 8-year-old contestant, quickly wrote the characters on a screen that projected her effort on a big display above her head. When she finished, one of three judges hit the bell signaling a correct answer.  the other two didn't agree,  (point) out that the young girl had missed a single dot in the third character.  

 Yu wasn't alone. The show tested a group of adults in the audience, just 30% of  could write toad correctly.  

Since the first show on a minor TV channel about educational programming, the "Chinese. Characters Dictation Competition" (explode) in popularity. The show shifted to a Friday evening time on CCTV-1, even challenging the popularity of the country's most (watch) shows, including China's version of "The Voice".

 Its creator, Guan Zhengwen said," The hope is  the show could arouse people's  (enthusiastic) for the language, which d one of the most spectacular treasures of Chinese civilization and the fifth big invention the Chinese people have given to humanity. The so-called four great inventions from China  (typical) are listed as paper, gunpowder, the compass and printing.  

 For me, one cultural shock was during my stay in South Korea.  

 In 2019, I went to Seoul to teach English. As soon as I landed I went to dinner. I was pescatarian(鱼素者) at the time and asked if we could go to a restaurant that 1 fish.  

 Unlike Western restaurants, Korean restaurants usually specialize in a(n) 2  dish. My host's entire family accompanied me, including her two kids and his grandmother. I wasn't given a menu, as in Korea it's usually the oldest person that chooses what to 3 .  

 My first surprise was the banchan (side dishes). I was 4  by all the "exotic" smells, tastes and textures while sitting on the floor. But the most 5  part of the meal was the main dish. The waiter 6  some octopus tentacles(触角). On closer 7 , I saw that they were still moving on the plate as if trying to 8 .

 Soothe the Sunday Scaries 

 Most of us look forward to the weekend as a time to relax, connect with friends and family, and deal with tasks from a to-do list that gets neglected during the workweek. But as the weekend comes to an end, many are missing out on Sunday Funday and instead experiencing an over whelming sense of anxiety and even dread (恐惧) about the upcoming week.  Some people describe it as a heaviness they can feel in their body, while others feel so unsettled that they could jump out of their skin.  

 Even though the Sunday scaries are common, they are manageable. Here's how experts say you can ease your end-of-weekend anxiety.  

 Structure your Sunday. You might still go through that sense of dread, but that feeling is harder to hold on to when you're engaging in something that makes you feel good.  

 Don't forget to relax. If you're feeling more stress, it's important to make space for relaxing activities to ground yourself. Maybe a mid-afternoon shower or bath, maybe an engaging movie or show, whatever feels like a helpful distraction to reground from the scaries.  

 Identify your anxiety sources. Try to figure out what's really causing you to dread the week Even if there's not a single reason behind your Sunday anxiety, organizing the stress into small parts can help make it all more manageable.  

 Getting rid of the Sunday scaries isn't just about minimizing the gloom of the week ahead. Have something to look forward to. This gives you the opportunity to shift your thoughts to fun and will help improve your mood.  

 End your Sunday with the right energy. Sunday night is a proper wind-down time. Maybe you want to journal, do a face mask, read a few pages of a good book. Do your best to honor this time and make Sunday night all about you.
