We've all heard people say "Oh, that person is so creative！" about someone who is great at art, but art is just one area where people can be creative. Any time you try something different to solve a problem, you're being creative. Maybe, but anyone can get more creative with practice. Here are some techniques that work for experts who are creative in very different ways.

Explore and Imagine. Shigeru Miyamoto is the brains behind some of the world's most popular video games：Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong. He spent hours exploring nature and going on adventures in his mind.

Listen to Music. "Music is important to me. It brings my creative juices," says author Linda Trice. When she was writing about American hero Harriet Tubman, she started each day by listening to The Battle Hymn of the Republic. In her picture book Kenya's Song, Kenya and her father compose a song inspired by all the different music they hear in their neighborhood.

 Find Pictures in Patterns.  The artist Leonardo da Vinci looked everywhere for patterns that would spark his imagination. For example, he would look at stone walls to discover landscapes or faces.  

Dr. Lonnie Johnson is the inventor of the Super Soaker. When he was in high school, he wanted to build a robot, but he failed many times. Now he is an engineer and an inventor. In a TED Talk, he said, "Just like with the robot，I don't know any better than ‘Try!' ".

Alibaba starts taking the lead in China, simply enough, by connecting big Chinese manufacturers (制造商) with big buyers across the world. Its business-to-business site, Alibaba. com allows business to buy almost everything. Alibaba's advantage isn't hard to identify: size. Alibaba is just big, even by Chinese standards. Its marketplaces attract 231 million active buyers, 8 million sellers, 11. 3 billion orders a year — and Alibaba is just the middleman. It encourages people to use its markets — not charging small sellers a percentage of the sale.

If you want a quick look into the influence of Alibaba on daily Chinese life, take my experience. I moved to Beijing almost a year ago and quickly got tired of visiting small stores across the crowded, polluted city of 20 million people in search of new electronics, bathroom furnishings, and anything else my wife wanted. "You're looking for what exactly? Why not try it?" my Chinese teacher asked me one day. With that, my wonderful new relationship with Alibaba began.

Alibaba's original business-to-business model now is second to consumer buying. Chinese retail (零售) buying makes up 80% of Alibaba's profit, and leading that group is Taobao, with 800 million items for sale and the most unbelievable selection of things you'll ever find. TMall. com is Alibaba's other big site, where you can find brand name goods from Nike and Unilever near the lowest prices. What I have a hard time explaining to friends and family back in the U. S. is how China has gone beyond traditional shopping — big-box retailers especially — in favor of online purchases on Taobao and a few other sites. In smaller towns than Beijing, where big retailers have not yet traveled, shopping online is shopping, and shopping is Taobao.

I have a list of some of my recent purchases on Taobao for a sense of how wide the marketplace is. Almost everything arrived a day or two after ordering with free shipping. I'm not even a big buyer, because I need friends to help me search the Chinese-language site. When I was searching my purchase history on my Chinese teacher's iPad, which helps me buy goods, I looked through with great difficulty about 10 of her purchases for every one of mine.

After shopping for deals in stores on "Black Friday", or online on "Cyber Monday", Americans and people worldwide are preparing for newly popular "Giving Tuesday". Starting in 2012, now the global event that is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is the brainchild of 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City and United Nations Foundation.

 As the name indicates, Giving Tuesday is meant to restart the charitable season and therefore observed by raising funds for local nonprofits and schools, organizing food and clothing drives, and conducting random acts of kindness. In 2015, 700, 000 people from 71 countries came together to donate $116. 7 million in cash. An additional $1.08 million was spent on gifts.  

 While the easiest way to participate is by donating to your favorite charity, this day can be celebrated in many other ways too. You can give back by volunteering at your local shelter or food bank, or even by donating blood. If all else fails, a purchase from the growing number of organizations that give a portion of their sales to charity will do the trick.  

 But perhaps the best way to celebrate the day is by helping those nearest and dearest to you. Assist a family member with a simple chore like folding laundry, cooking dinner, or even reading to a younger sibling. No matter what you do, be sure to share your good deeds on social media and inspire others to celebrate Giving Tuesday as well! 

On a Saturday morning in New York, Nina Roedeler walks to Astoria Park. It's a rainy day, and there are not many people in the street. She enjoys the quiet. A little before 10 p. m, she reached a folding table set up on a patch of grass.

"Morning, Jen!" Nina greets the volunteer who will help sign people in and out and write down their information. Then she walks over to a truck. Nina pulls the doors open, looking at each of these black boxes.

 This is the reason why she comes here: the dogs.  

Nina never kept the dogs in the past. She had a rabbit for a short time, but that was all her family had room for in their small apartment in Germany. It wasn't until she moved to New York City as an adult that she wanted to keep a dog. Then Hurricane Sandy hit. Nina opened the newspaper one morning and was shocked to read that thousands of dogs had lost their homes because of the storm. "What should I do?" she said to herself, "I have a car and I can help. "

Friends with Four Paws is a non-profit(非营利的) organization. It saves dogs in Oklahoma, takes care of their medical needs, and then places them in loving homes across the country. Nina found that Friends with Four Paws needed help. Soon she became a member of the organization and spent her weekends transporting dogs all over New York, New Jersey. . . At times, Nina had as many as five dogs in her car. She began calling herself "the dog chauffeur(司机)". She has helped the transports grow from seven dogs a month to 30 and spends most of her time interviewing those families that want dogs and matching dogs with possible owners.

Once a month she hosts Transport Day in Astoria Park, where the families can pick up their dogs. Today, she hopes more dogs can find their homes. "It's my favorite day of the month. " Nina says, "I feel like Santa Claus!"

You haven't truly visited a city until you've experienced its nightlife. Watching a big city like London gradually turn dark and darker into the night is a beautiful journey of time and light. So how about taking a historical evening walk and touching some of the nicest areas in central London? Let's get started.

 The walk starts on the Millennium Bridge. On the bridge, watch the scenic city across the River Thames with the skyscrapers(摩天大楼) gradually lighting up against the darkening skies. The Millennium Bridge has been featured in many London-based films, including Harry Potter, and the film Guardians of the Galaxy.  

 7:30 pm  

It's getting dark. A fifteen-minute walk northwest from St Paul's Cathedral takes you to the historic Borough Market. During the evenings, you find a lot of restaurants around the market. This is an excellent time to get your dinner.

 9:00 pm 

The next stop is London Bridge. This is about 6 minutes' walk from the Borough Market. As you join other onlookers and mentally go through the nursery school rhyme of "London Bridge is Falling Down", you get lost again in history. Why does the song say London Bridge is falling and who is the fair lady?

 During the London city fire of 1897, London Bridge served an important role in fire control. It was one of the major structures that prevented the fire from crossing over to the other side of London.  

 11:30 pm 

London never sleeps; it's a few minutes to midnight and everywhere is still filled with people moving around. About four minutes away from the Golden Jubilee Bridges is Trafalgar Square, our next stop.

Jack was a hardworking student. By the middle of seventh grade, he was one of the top kids at school. He was attentive in class, did all his homework and felt good about himself. So he hadn't been too concerned when he was about to study in senior high school.

Right before the first day of senior high school, Dad sat him down at the dining table and had a serious talk with him. They talked about college. Specifically, Dad told Jack that college was expensive. College cost more money than a year's rent on their apartment. College cost more money than either Dad or Mom made in a year.

Jack didn't understand why anyone would want to go to college if it cost that much. Dad explained that not everyone paid that much. Some students, as Dad said, who worked very hard and got good grades, paid less or paid nothing at all to go to college. It was called a scholarship. Jack's eyes were wide open when he heard about this. Jack nodded, promising his dad that he would work harder and get a scholarship.

Just then, Mom walked in. "You are scaring him," she said, "Relax, son. Just do your best. Don't put too much pressure on yourself."

Dad shook his head, "That's not enough. He needs to make sure he has options in the future."

"Of course, he will," Mom said, "As long as he tries his best, he'll have a good future."

Even though Jack knew what his mom was trying to say, he still decided that he wanted to give it a try. If he tried his best, if he worked hard enough in senior high school, then he could get into college without having to pay a ton of money. That night, he promised himself that he would try to get a scholarship.
