Microplastic pollution is increasing dramatically around the globe, according to a study of airborne(空气传播的)plastic particles. People are already known to breathe, drink and eat microplastics, and research suggests that pollution levels will continue to rise rapidly. The researchers said that inhaling(吸入) these particles can harm lung tissue and lead to serious diseases.

Professor Natalie Mahowald, at Cornell University in the US and part of the research team, said: "But maybe we could solve this before it becomes a huge problem, if we manage our plastics better, before they accumulate in the environment and move around everywhere."

The research, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, examined airborne microplastics, which have been far less studied than plastic in oceans and rivers.

The team gathered more than 300 samples of airborne microplastics from 11 sites across the western US. These were the basis for atmospheric modeling that estimated the contribution from different sources, and was the first such study to do so.

They found that roads were the dominant factor in the western US, linked to about 85 percent of the microplastics in the air. These are likely to include particles from tires and brake pads on vehicles, and plastics from litter that had been broken down.

The researchers extended their modeling work to a global level and. this suggested that while roads are also likely to be the dominant driver of airborne plastics in Europe, South America and Australia, plastics particles blown up from fields may be a much bigger factor in Africa and Asia.

Professor Andreas Stohl of the university Vienna's Faculty of Earth Sciences, and not part of the part of the study team, said: "The study confirms the global-scale nature of microplastic transport in the atmosphere and does a good job in highlighting highly relevant and concerning possibilities, but more measurement data is needed to get a better idea of the sources."

(1)、What do we know about microplastic pollution from the text?
A、It has become the most pressing problem. B、There is more plastic in the air than oceans. C、The particles can do great harm to our lungs. D、Airborne microplastics have been widely studied.
(2)、What did the researchers find out about airborne plastic pollution?
A、Africa is suffering the most from it. B、Its impact varies on different continents. C、Public transportation is largely to blame. D、Its major driver differs across continents.
(3)、According to Professor Andreas Stohl, the next step of the study is to ____.
A、predict the potential damages of microplastics. B、get more data to understand the sources of microplastics C、improve the method of collecting samples of microplastics D、understand the nature of airborne plastic pollution globally
(4)、What could be the best title for the text?
A、Plastic Pollution and Our Future B、Possible Solutions to Plastic Pollution C、Plastic Pollution Shooting up in the Air D、Effects of Microplastics on Human Health

In Florida's Everglades, few species are more closely tied to the habitat's health than an endangered bird, the snail kite. The Everglade snail kite eats just one thing: snails, a species that relies almost entirely on a resource usually abundant in the freshwater marshes (沼泽).

Over the last century, as much of the Everglades dried up, droughts contributed to the snail kite's decline, and by 2007, there were fewer than 800 remaining. But the kite has bounced____back recently thanks to an exotic(外来的)snail. It's a rare case of an invasive species having a positive impact.

Robert Fletcher, a University of Florida professor who directs a snail kite monitoring program, said the invasive species was first spotted in 2004. Within a few years, it had expanded through much of the Everglades. "And it was around that time," he said, "that we started to see snail kite number increase."

No one's sure about how the exotic snails were introduced into the Everglades. They're related to Florida's apple snails and are commonly used in home aquariums(鱼缸). The invader, the island apple snail, is larger than its Florida cousin. It lays eggs in the thousands visible on the stalks (茎) of many of the marsh plants.

Efforts to restore Florida's Everglades have helped the snail kite and restored native vegetation. It's been in the works for more than 30 years with a cost of more than $20 billion. But progress is increasing gradually, although hard to measure. In the meantime, scientists say the invasive snail may have helped pull Florida's endangered snail kite back from the threat of extinction.

But Fletcher is concerned about the potential impact the species will have on the Everglades over the long term. He said, "What we should be thinking about is how we restore native snails to get those benefits rather than relying on this non-native species that can have damaging impacts on the ecosystem." The invasive snails may already have caused losses to some native marsh plants, indicating that trouble may come very soon.

(1)、What does the underlined phrase "bounced back" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A、Recovered. B、Departed. C、Emerged. D、Returned.
(2)、What is a major cause of the snail kite's decline?
A、The disappearance of their habitat. B、The shortage of food due to droughts. C、The increasing number of other species. D、The introduction of an invasive species.
(3)、What do we know about the invasive snails?
A、Their eggs are hard to spot on the stalks B、They are smaller than native apple snails. C、Home aquariums are an ideal habitat for them. D、They increase in population around the Everglades.
(4)、What conclusion can be drawn from the last two paragraphs?
A、Human efforts apparently have proven to be effective. B、The benefits of the invasive snails outweigh the harms. C、The invasive snails pose little threat to the local ecosystem. D、Restoring the native ecosystem is costly but necessary in the long run.

In times of distress, a friend would always suggest going for a walk. "Are you overwhelmed by your work? Take a walk around the neighborhood." Comments like this are often said with nothing but the best of intentions. but they used to make me angry as much as being told to drink more water. I did not understand how these things were going to help.

Three years ago, I hit a low point. Once I saw a pair of empty eves looking at me through the mirror, I knew I was at my breaking point. So I took the advice I fought so hard to ignore. I went for a walk—with the hope that it would somehow change my life.

I embraced the fresh air everyone seemed to be talking about. But it did nothing. I was just as sad as I was before. I went on a walk every single day for more than a month. Some days I could barely make it outside, but I managed to push through. I took a picture every time I went. I think I wanted to document myself trying to make an effort.

One day, the unthinkable happened. I found myself smiling. I realized I had patiently waited all morning to go on this walk. What I once hated had become the best part of my day. I found myself longing to be outside. I never had a destination in mind. I just danced along the trails, stopped to look at the beautiful blue skies and listened to music.

I'm glad I took pictures because there was a noticeable difference in my face. I slowly started to look less tired and defeated. I don 't know why I refused to go on that walk for so long. I guess I didn't want to believe that something small and seemingly meaningless could actually make an impact on my physical and mental well-being.

If you're having a bad day, a bad month, a bad year or even a bad life, you should try going for a walk. Sometimes, all we need to do is try.

(3)、What happened after the author started to go for a walk?
A、She felt cheered up after the first week. B、She always set off with a destination in mind. C、She stopped for a while due to lack of progress. D、She was inspired by the pictures she took of herself.
(4)、What does the author advise us to do?
A、Care more about our mental health. B、Go for a walk when feeling depressed. C、Take other people's suggestions seriously. D、Try to stay positive when bad things happen.

In high school, I was a straight-A student, a member of many school clubs, and a receiver of many rewards. However, I had been subjected to(受到....磨) peer pressure. Wanting to be"Cool", I started going to parties and drinking, drunk beyond recognition. My life took a tur for the worse. However, the experience in one summer program taught me a lesson: never do something you believe is wrong just to gain the approval of others.

In June, I worked part-time at a restaurant. The day before I left for the program, one co-worker offered me his driver's license, telling me to have fun in Quebec since we two almost looked the same. I'd seen friends walk into liquor( 酒) stores with fake licenses and come out carrying a twelve-pack of beer, smiling proudly. So I took the license, but I promised myself that I wouldn't use it. However, I easily got carried away.

On the first night of the program, while walking around, my new friends and I came across a liquor store. Kai asked if anyone had a fake license. After everyone shook his head, I cleared my throat and declared,"I do."With everyone"s admiration and Kai's twenty dollars and instruction, I boldly agreed to take on the task without thinking.I managed to buy a case of beer. The boys cheered and gave me pats on the back."You're the man,"someone said to me. The praise boosted my self-confidence.

The last night there was a party. A few of my friends insisted that we drink before the dance. They asked me,the "ID man,"to buy alcohol. To cam their admiration, I took the cash and bought what they wanted. Later that night,I was enjoying myself when Kai said nervously,"Cristian isn't okay."Worried for my friend, I went to assess the situation. Clearly, Cristian was overly drunk and almost unconscious.

Five Tips For A Happier Life

Here are some scientifically proven but simple ways to cultivate contentment.

Help other people. Whether lending a hand or offering a handout, giving to others has been found to make you feel better. A study from the University of British Columbia found that people who spent money on gifts for others or gave to charity reported being happier than people who spent cash on themselves. . And there's a big bonus: giving your time to help others is also associated with better health.

Listen to music. , according to research from the University of Missouri, especially if you actively try to be happier when you're listening. Psychologists from Goldsmiths, University of London also found that people who listened to positive music judged a grey square to look brighter than it actually was.

. You might need to listen to cheerful music to improve your frame of mind, but it's not the same when it comes to movies, according to academics at Ohio State University. Watching a tragic film appeared to make viewers reflect on their own relationships and realize how much better off they were than the characters in the movie.

Meditate( 冥想). Mindfulness meditation which focuses on experiencing the here and now has been shown to increase feelings of contentment. What's more, researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital in the US looked at brain scans of 16 people who took part in an eight- week mindfulness meditation course and found changes in the brain. .

Go outdoors. Numerous studies have found being outside is an effective pick-me-up.  But best of all,according a University of Sussex and LSE study, is a visit to the coast. Researchers asked people to log their happiness levels on a "Mappiness" app and being by the sea on a warm weekend day came out top.

    A. Watch a sad film
