Social Media

Social media can be defined as web-based mobile media that are used for people to interact, connect and communicate with each other. It often involves the creation and sharing of content( writing, pictures and videos) that people make themselves, mostly through the Internet.

 The first type involves people getting together to work on a project, for example, Wikipedia. Blogs and microblogs (such as Twitter) are another type of social media. There are other websites like YouTube that allow people to share content such as pictures, articles or videos.  These sites allow people to stay in touch with friends, make new ones and join communities. Facebook is an example of this type. Many people like to play games on the Internet and, yes, there are social media games as well. These games allow gamers to interact with each other and play with or against other gamers. The popular game World of Warcraft is a good example. The final type of social media is websites like Second Life, where people can picture they are in the real world. 

Social media are different from traditional media. With social media, many individual people in different places create content. Another difference is that people who produce content in social media don't need very special skills.  It takes only a few minutes to write a twitter post, for example.

 But whatever you might think, social media is here to stay.

I have a special place in my heart for libraries. I have for as long as I can remember. I was always an enthusiastic reader, sometimes reading up to three books a day as a child. Stories were like air to me and while other kids played ball or went to parties, I lived out adventures through the books I checked out from the library.

My first job was working at the Ukiah Library when I was 16 years old. It was a dream job and I did everything from shelving books to reading to the children for story time.

As I grew older and became a mother, the library took on a new place and an added meaning in my life. I had several children and books were our main source(来源) of entertainment. It was a big deal for us to load up and go to the local library, where my kids could pick out books to read or books they wanted me to read to them.

I always read ,using different voices ,as though I were acting out the stories with my voice and they loved it! It was a special time to bond with my children and it filled them with the wonderment of books .

Now, I see my children taking their children to the library and I love that the excitement of going to the library lives on form generation to generation.

As a novelist, I've found a new relationship with libraries. I encourage readers to go to their local library when they can't afford to purchase a book. I see libraries as a safe haven(避风港) for readers and writers, a bridge that helps put together a reader with a book. Libraries, in their own way, help fight book piracy(盗版行为) and 1 think all writers should support libraries in a significant way when they can. Encourage readers to use the library. Share library announcements on your social media. Frequent them and talk about them when you can.

The widely known Spanish festival of San Fermin (西班牙奔牛节) started on Monday. The nine days of festival, where‘the running of the bulls' is one of the main attractions, is made up of a rocket fired into the air from the town hall in front of a crowded main square. Thousands of people from around the world would gather at the square and more would spend those days in the city enjoying the festival which involves many activities of different kinds accompanied by drinking and eating．

The program includes 459 main activities.Around 71 percent of them involve music, there are around 82 activities for families and there will also be fireworks, apart from the main attraction, ‘the running of the bulls'. The ‘running of the bulls' takes place every morning and thousands of people run alongside and in front of the bulls. Every year there are injured people and some have been killed all over the years, while the bulls are killed in the afternoon bullfight. 3,350 members of the police will watch over the festival and more than 100 members of the Red Cross will attend the ‘running of the bulls' to deal with injured people．

The festival was vividly depicted by Ernest Hemingway's 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises which made the festival internationally known. The festival dates back to the 13th century and the origin is the celebration of the patron saint(守护神) of Pamplona. This celebration was originally held on October 10 but in 1591 people from Pamplona changed the date to July to enjoy better weather and when the livestock market(牲畜市场) took place, although bullfights were first documented in the 14th century．

Rates: Nightly rates for cottages and cabins range between $317 and $398.

Tamarack Lodge Resort, Mammoth Lakes, California

It is on the peaceful shores of the Twin Lakes. Choose between recently built Deluxe Cabins and old wood-and-stone cabins. Swimming, fishing, boating, biking, and hiking are popular pastimes.

Rates: Summer cabin rates range from $369 to $999 per night.
