Whether you have small dreams or high expectations, setting goals allows you to plan how you want to move through life. . 

Find out your life goals. Ask yourself some important questions about what you want for your life. What do you want to achieve today, in a year, and in your lifetime? The answers to these questions can be as general as "I want to be happy" or "I want to help people". .

Set specific goals. Be specific and realistic about what it is that you want to achieve. Research shows that setting a specific goal makes you more likely to achieve it. . For example, "Be healthier" is too big and vague （模糊的）to be a helpful goal. "I want to eat more vegetables, and I want to run a marathon" is better.

Write out your goals. Be detailed, be clear, and include your steps. . Keep your list in a place where you can get informed frequently. This will help keep you motivated（有动力的）.

"When I think of England, I think of the queen taking her dogs for walk in the countryside," says Carsten Haferkamp, a dog-owning German working in London. Data from Tractive, a firm that provides GPS tracking for pets, show that Britons walk their dogs more than their European neighbors do.

The British love for dog-walking may have more to do with the walking than the dogs. Britons are big walkers – they came fifth in the world in a study in 2017, the highest in Europe. Dogs provide walkers with company and a purpose, so it may be that walking encourages dog-ownership. 

But Julien Dugnoille, an expert at Exeter University, suspects dog-walking has a deeper significance. Dogs, he suggests, are a useful aid to a socially awkward nation. "Britons tend to have a chat with strangers and exchange a few jokes and comments about the weather without putting themselves in danger."

A tradition among the British nobles of owning and training dogs also leads Dr Dugnoille to assume that dog-walking is a way to keep ancient honor. "When people in the park say Max is very well-behaved," says Dr Dugnoille, "that is a way to show their authority in the art of dog training compared to those dog owners who are not in control of their own dog."

But it's not just about showing off, in his view. He believes walking with one's best friend creates a time and space where dogs and humans meet as species and connect as individuals.

Still, Britons should not congratulate themselves too much on their behavior towards their dog companions. According to Dr Carri Westgarth of Liverpool University, "People say that a dog needs a walk every day, but they will find reasons why their dog doesn't need a walk. They'll say: he's got company indoors, he's nervous or he doesn't like the rain."

Have you heard of shikumen houses （石库门）in Shanghai？It is a type of architecture that combines Western culture and traditional Chinese residential characteristics. It uses stone as door frames （门框）and solid wood in black lacquer （漆）as door leaves （门扇）. Over the past 100 years，many significant historical events have been seen in shikumen houses, such as the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 1921. 

Unfortunately, many Shanghai locals don't even know about shikumen houses, and they are disappearing due to the development of the city. To make a difference, a group of students from Shanghai International Studies University has established a studio called "Meeting Shikumen". "We probably can't stop them from disappearing," said Mei Zi, 18, the leader of the group. "But we want to let more people know that shikumen houses exist."

Starting in 2022, the students opened accounts on WeChat and Instagram to share information about shikumen houses, such as the significance of their architectural design and how they reflect Shanghai culture. To draw more young people's attention to shikumen houses, they also created original IP figures called "Kuku" and "Tiantian". The students even created a series of WeChat stickers of Kuku and Tiantian, which now have been used by more than 10,000 people.

"This project has become a tradition of our university and will be carried on by students," Mei said. "In the future, we want to interact with international students in Shanghai, by taking them on theme tours of shikumen houses, to share shikumen with people from various cultures."

When White met the pit bull puppy in 2018, Darby was young, playful, strong as an ox. Then, in the summer of 2019, came Darby's date with destiny.

White was fishing in Northern California's Bodega Bay. He left Darby, then a year old and 100 pounds, in the parked car with windows down, while he cast his line a few yards away. The fish weren't biting, White recalls, until, suddenly, they were.

At first, White thought he had hooked a stingray. But as he reeled （绕线）it in, he realized it was a seven gill shark, about 6 feet long. Not uncommon, but still dangerous. He brought it close and carefully unhooked it, expecting it to swim away. It didn't. The shark bit his ankle.

All of a sudden there was blood everywhere, says White. He yelled for help, hoping the fishermen down the beach could hear. But they didn't seem to know what was going on. Fortunately, Darby did. He jumped out of the car and ran toward the water. He ran right up to the shark and sank his teeth into its gills （鱼鳃）.

"That just made the shark bite down harder," Mr. White says. Darby backed off, then regrouped and attacked the shark's tail. The shark released its grip （紧抓）, and White managed to push it into shallow water, where it swam off. "The whole thing took less than a minute," White says, "but it left plenty of damage." White was able to stop the bleeding and get to a hospital, where he learned that the wound was very severe.

That would've been the end of it, had Darby's story not gone viral. White was contacted by NBC News and CNN. That's when the countless cash offers started to come in. But the big dog was not for sale.

Just like everyone, I have experienced ups and downs in my life. I am an aerospace engineer from India. I was told by my relatives, close friends and others that it was hard for a non-IT student to pursue a master's degree in IT and graduate from a US university.

I had never taken courses related to computers or programming. I was never interested in being a programmer, but things changed. I became socaptivated by the convenience IT has brought to our life that I made up my mind to chase a master's degree in IT.

At first, I came across too many difficulties and setbacks. Coming from a middle-class family, the huge cost per credit was a big issue. My English accent was terrible. Most importantly, the course seemed impossible at first. Although I felt so discouraged and frustrated, I never thought of giving up.

Then I decided to choose my university because it promised its students to help them learn practically. During my first month, it was difficult to understand the Americans' accent and finish my assignments. But I never gave in. I walked two miles to the university every day so that I could use my travel money to buy a meal. I started looking for jobs and I got an offer to work as a student assistant, which meant lifting benches and chairs every day.

I took all these challenges as my chances, and I believed that hard work was my strength. Right now I am graduating with a GPA of 3.96/4 and a job offer from a multinational company that has asked me to start right after graduation.

When you have a dream to realize, there is nothing that can stop you. All you need is the diligence and persistence. Hard work always pays off. Having a determined will is also necessary.

It has become acceptable for people to say that women work less than men and therefore deserve less! It may have been true in the past when women were expected to stay at home and look after children, but women have changed over the years. They have "come out"! Gone are the days when they toiled the kitchen stove all day long; they are now aware of their needs and are willing to fight for them. They expect to be given the respect they deserve, both at home and at work. They have realized their intellectual potential and have determined to do something about it!

Women on two wheels have become a familiar sight on the roads of most Asian countries during the past few years. It is common to find a woman taking her children on her bicycle to school and then reach her office in time. She has become a major part in family decisions in every aspect and how those decisions are carried out. It would have been unimaginable a few years ago!

It is rather difficult to combine a career and a decent home life, "super woman" though she is. She needs to feel supported and fulfilled. She may arrive at work feeling as if she has already done a full day's work. If colleagues doubt her commitment to her job, she will feel sad. At the same time, women of today expect their partners to contribute towards childcare and household chores.

Today's women are learning to avoid situations that make them feel more stressed and it is a hard struggle. Despite all this, the new woman, "the superpower" has arrived. She still believes in the power and value of a family unit and she holds it in high esteem（尊重）.
