When my grandmother was a teenager, her family moved to Transylvania. To make money, she began 1 in a bakery(面包店). For two or three years, she threw herself into  2 desserts and became an excellent baker. It was there that she met my grandfather, got  3 , and had two children: My mother and my uncle.

Learn about your destination and local customs. As a also traveler, it' s important that you know everything going on around you. Research local customs to avoid any embarrassing situations. If you' re visiting a foreign language-speaking country, study key phrases and the correct pronunciations.  . 

Pack the things you need and nothing you don' t.  . Traveling alone is hard enough, and you don' t want to be slowed down by a lot of luggage. If some items you need are difficult to travel with, it may be cheaper and easier to buy them when you land. Don' t bring any expensive items that could risk being stolen.

The old Chinese saying " as happy as spending the New Year"  might be outdated now in the busy modern world. The Spring Festival is regarded as the most important festival for Chinese people and an occasion for all family members to get together. But many traditional customs accompanying the Spring Festival, however, have weakened in practice． 

Setting off fireworks was once the most typical custom of the Spring Festival. People thought the sputtering(爆裂)sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, the activity has been completely or partially forbidden in big cities for years as the government has taken security, noise and pollution factors into consideration． 

" In recent years, some cities have begun to allow people to light fireworks during limited hours at the Spring Festival, surrendering to(屈从于)public demand. Respecting folk traditions is a gesture of respect towards public opinion,"  said Zhou Xing, a folklore (民俗) researcher． 

" As people gain more income and it becomes easier to buy daily goods, the New Year holiday is just like any other. After long workdays, many people use the New Year holiday to take a rest, rather than visiting friends and neighbors. The process of making and enjoying the family dinner on Spring Festival Eve is the most important thing. However, many families would like to eat out to save time and energy, "  said Li Shunzhi, a resident of Harbin,Heilongjiang． 

" I enjoy the holidays very much in the countryside. My family has been preparing for the Spring Festival more than two weeks before the holiday, cleaning the house, buying holiday goods and decorating the house with paper cuttings. On New Year' s Eve, the whole family stays up to see the New Year in, and in the days to follow, a series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held. Without the ancient traditions, the holiday is nothing to us, "  said Zhang Hui, from Hebei． 

Music is an international language. The songs that are sung or played by instruments are beautiful to all people everywhere. 

Popular music in America is what every student likes. Students carry small radios with earphones and listen to music before class, after class and at lunch. Students with cars buy large speakers and play the music loudly as they drive on the street. 

Adult drivers listen to music on the car radio as they drive to work. They also listen to the news about sports, the weather, politics, and activities of the American people. But most of the radio broadcast is music. 

Pop or popular music singers make much money. They make a CD or tape which radio stations use in every state. Once the popular singer is heard throughout the country, young people buy his or her tapes. Some of the money from these tapes comes to the singer. Wherever the singer goes, all the young people want to meet him or her. Now the singer has become a national star. 

Besides pop music, there are two other kinds of music that are important to Americans. One is called folk music. It tells stories about the common life of Americans. The other is called western or country music. This was started by cowboys who would sing at night to the cows they were watching. Today, any music about country life and the love between a country boy and his girl is called western or country music. 

Serious music for the concert halls is called classical music. Music for instruments is called orchestra music, such as the symphonies(交响乐) of Beethoven. There is opera for singers, and ballet for dancers like the story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai in China. 

With the ever-increasing popularity of online shopping, users'  reviews are becoming more and more important. Given that you can' t actually touch, see, smell or hear the product you' re buying online, these reviews will provide you with valuable information on the product itself. But how far can you trust them?

Some companies seem to be contributing to the problem. A publishing house offered gift vouchers(购物礼券) to anyone who would give their textbook a five-star review. But not all online companies operate like this. " Amazon works hard to keep the completeness of its customer reviews,"  said a spokesperson for the company. " We have very clear guidelines, and when a customer reports a review that he feels is inappropriate, we check, and may take it down. " 

So, next time you see that five-star review for something you want to buy, be aware—it could be the work of a false reviewer!
