6、 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Nowadays college graduates spend more and more money on job hunting. According to a recent survey, almost every graduate (spend) some money on finding a job. And clothing, transportation, resumes producing and training expense are the main (aspect) that cost them a lot of money.
As to this phenomenon, different people have different views. Some say it is necessary for graduates to spend money (produce) embellished resumes and buying suitable clothes, can give interviewers a good impression and increase their chance of success. However, others don't think so. They argue that the high expenditure can increase their parents' (finance) burden since most students have no regular income. Apart from that, the (decorate) resumes do little help to find a job most HR managers pay more attention to skills.
In my opinion, there is wrong for graduates to invest some money on job hunting. But they should bear mind that it is their knowledge, skills as well as experience that matter a lot. So they must have rational attitude toward what they should buy and how much money they should spend.

Ways to Grow Your Own Plant Supports Instead of Buying Them
Many new gardeners think it is necessary to buy new items for their gardens, when in fact, careful design and the right plant choices can mean that your garden can actually provide the things you need.
One common example of the things that people buy when they could grow them in their own garden is plant supports. . While there are numerous plant supports on the market, my professional take is that you can do without buying any of these at all.
Many climbing and vining plants require some support as they grow. Sometimes, the plants you grow beside climbers or vines can provide all the support they need. . The same thing can be true of a number of taller perennials (多年生植物). Growing them close can prevent them being blown over in strong winds. , as you will need to think about competition and avoid overcrowding.
Of course, other living plants will not always be able to provide the support that is required. I find growing trees like the hazel or willow means you always have suitable material to use in your own garden. . Do so early on in garden establishment and over time, you can easily become selfsufficient in garden plant supports—even in a small garden.
, it can be helpful to think about longerterm needs in your garden. Grow not just eatable plants, but also a range of other plants which will allow you to become more selfsufficient over time.
A. Plenty of trees grow relatively quickly
B. Thick planting should be handled with care
C. Before you buy plant supports for your garden
D. Planting these trees in your garden can be a great choice
E. So when designing your garden and deciding which plants to grow
F. Plants like short peas can simply be grown close together and will hold each other up
G. Plant supports can be living, growing plants or branches cut from elsewhere in the space

With rounds of pioneering space flights that could set the stage for future space tourism,it is worth looking at what might be involved for the human exploration of Mars, though it's likely decades away. Technological challenges aside,as we continue to expand our exploration of Mars, there is a question:What might be the lessons of past voyages of discovery that we should think about?
Human exploration has led to many extraordinary new discoveries, but it has also led to the exploitation (开发) of resources. Not long after early European settlers arrived in America, they declared their independence and created the constitution by which modern American society functions. However, this did not prevent the settlers from referring to native people as savages and taking away their rights to liberty, happiness, and even survival. Native Americans were quickly killed by wars and new diseases as the new settlers expanded their land. The natural environment, with which they had established a harmonious relationship, was similarly destroyed by the settlement.
Mars certainly has an impossible environment for human life, but on Mars, humans will be the invasive (侵略的) species. Will our landing on Mars break the ecosystem on Mars?It is possible that Mars has ideal minerals for future development. But apart from technology challenges, will the mining have a disastrous environment impact on this red neighbour as it has already had on Earth?
The achievements of space exploration are certainly to be applauded. The contributions of the related research on chemistry, medicine and many others are potentially limitless. However,as we look to exploring worlds beyond our own,we need to begin now to look at history to consider how best to engage with different life forms, cultures and environments. We may be capable of writing a law,but we first need to clear our potential invasive impact on another planet that may be completely defenseless.
(1)、What does the underlined word in Paragraph 2 refer to?A、Modern American society. B、The creation of constitution. C、The settlement of Europeans. D、The exploitation of resources.(2)、What's the author's concern about the exploration of Mars?A、Humans cannot survive on Mars. B、Humans may bring new diseases to Mars. C、The exploration may destroy Mars' ecosystem. D、Technology challenges will make mining on Mars hard.(3)、What's the author's suggestion for future space exploring?A、Making relevant laws properly. B、Conducting more scientific researches. C、Predicting its impacts on other planets. D、Learning from past exploration experiences. -

Suppose you are out shopping and come across an acquaintance who starts telling you a story that seems to be dragging on and on. You want to seem interested, so you offer the occasional "Oh" or "I see". To your surprise, though, this person angrily stops in their tracks and says, "Sorry if I'm boring you!"
Where did this come from? Clearly, your body language must have betrayed you. The idea that verbal (口头的) and nonverbal messages can conflict was the inspiration for a recently published study from Yale University's Lueylle Armentano. As part of her study of communication in relationships, Armentano's research also examined communication channels in people meeting for the first time.
To test the role of verbalnonverbal mismatch on emotional communication, Armentano and her partner created experimental conditions to see what happens when someone asks for help from strangers. The research team created videotapes of a fellow Yale student expressing nervousness in his words, bodily gestures, or both. The bodily gestures included running his hands through his hair, grabbing his arm, and facially expressing uneasiness. The key question was whether the other participants, another 82 Yale students, would believe the student and provide the help he was requesting. They needed to give their responses.
Turning to the findings, those nonverbal cues (提示) of nervousness had a greater impact on helping behavior than the verbal cues. Surprisingly, helping behavior was the highest when verbal expressions of nervousness were low but nonverbal cues were high.
Recognizing that your body language can outweigh your words means that you need to be mindful of what your body is doing when you're interacting with others. Generally, when someone is speaking to you, you want to look like you're interested. Not only should you maintain eye contact, but you should keep your body still and face toward the other person. If you're not trying to look interested, it may be more polite to say you have to be somewhere else.
(1)、What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?A、The obvious advantages of body language. B、A situation where body language is a must. C、An example of verbalnonverbal mismatch. D、The proper way to interact with old friends.(2)、What were the 82 Yale students asked to do?A、Express nervousness in their words. B、Identify the types of body language. C、Try to win the nervous student's trust. D、Respond to the nervous student's request.(3)、What played the most important role in helping the student win kindness?A、His sincere verbal expressions. B、His bodily gestures of nervousness. C、His positive attitude to nervousness. D、His good manners in front of others.(4)、What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?A、Make a prediction. B、Offer suggestions. C、Present some facts. D、Give some warnings. -

A Time magazine special project known simply as "Firsts" celebrates women who have made big achievements. These women have made their mark in business, entertainment, politics and more. The project hopes to provide girls and women with positive examples who assure (使确信)them that they can succeed.
The "Firsts" project includes video features (特写), a book and a webpage. The webpage has the women's pictures and short descriptions of their achievements. The project's producers, Spencer Bakalar and Diane Tsai, made video profiles (简介) of 37 of the 46 original women featured by the project. The road to success hasn't always been smooth for these women. It took hard work to reach excellence. Many of them also put up with rude comments because they were women. But they also received support from key people, especially parents. Many of the women also speak about the difficulty of balancing work and family life. Their work sometimes required them to sacrifice time with their children or miss important family events. Yet several of them also say that they see their work as setting a good example for their children. They want their sons and daughters to see them working and know that they, too, can achieve remarkable things.
Michelle Phan was the first woman to build a US $500 million company from a web series. She tells entrepreneurs (企业家)to find a problem that they care about and then offer a way to solve it. That is vital advice that anyone in any field should follow.

21yearold Jasmine Harrison completed the 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in 70 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes—a new world record for the youngest female to row alone across the Atlantic.
Harrison, who's from North Yorkshire, England, didn't have loads of experience in rowing long distances. In her childhood, she could not even dream of such an ambition. She'd only got the idea three years earlier when she happened to be in Antigua, teaching swimming, and saw the end of the 2017 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. "Talking to a family member of a young man that had just completed it, I got to know just how amazing a thing it was. I didn't say ‘not a chance I would do that,' but it was more a fact of why not do it?" she said.
Every day, Harrison would row for about 12 hours, pushing her 550pound boat she bought with some money across the ocean, covering roughly 90 kilometers. The journey left her with much time all by herself, which she said she enjoyed. But things got a little harder after her speaker fell in the water and she could no longer listen to her music.
She had other company along the way. She saw lots of sea life, including several whales. One even rose out of the ocean right next to her boat. "I'm in their environment," she said. "It's just amazing. "
Twice, her boat was turned over in the night by large waves. The second time, she hurt her arm quite badly. Another time, she nearly ran into a ship. When her food ran out, she lived on cookies and chocolate. In the face of great hardship and loneliness, she kept going.
On February 20, 2021, she reached the island of Antigua—the end of the journey. She celebrated her arrival with a burger and fries.
(1)、What made Harrison participate in the 2020 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge?A、Her childhood hobby and dream. B、Her experience of watching a race. C、Her swimming teaching experience. D、Her family members' encouragement.(2)、Which of the following best describes Harrison's ocean trip?A、Adventurous. B、Pleasant. C、Boring. D、Expensive.(3)、When did Harrison begin rowing across the Atlantic Ocean alone?A、In November. B、In December. C、In January. D、In February.(4)、What can we learn from Harrison's story?A、The early bird catches the worm. B、Difficulties strengthen the mind. C、Behind bad luck comes good luck. D、No way is impossible to courage. -

Caught in "the Web"!
Dave and Kelly loved their computer. Their parents got it for them a couple of months ago, and they had taught their kids how to use it. They bought some computer games for the kids to play and connected the computer to the Internet. The kids loved going on the Internet and visiting websites. They got to do research for their homework, play games, print colouring pages and read stories. They also got to email their friends and even chat with other kids, after getting their parents' permission.
Because the kids liked the Internet so much, they would finish their homework, and then go to surf the Internet. Very often, they didn't feel the passage of time and found themselves almost falling asleep in front of the computer screen.
One day they stayed up late surfing the Internet after they were done with their homework.
They watched a video about a science fiction story, which described two alien species hunting human information, because aliens had a wicked intention to conquer the Earth. The species coming from a distance tried to collect every aspect of data about humans, but in vain. They were detected and driven away by watchful humans. After a while they started getting tired and they were almost falling asleep. While they were in the twilight between being asleep and being awake, they felt a strong suction coming from the computer screen. It felt like a huge vacuum cleaner!
By now, they were fully awake, but when they looked around, they did not see their living room anymore. Instead, they were drawn into the computer itself by that mysterious power. They were surrounded by a complex system of tubes and small boxes and columns. They were all in different shapes, such as being tall, short, wide, narrow, round, square, etc. More strangely, they all felt a little warm and some even were shining with real, blue or orange light. They saw themselves floating in a long tube with speeding chunks of alphabets, numbers, images and sounds. They were INSIDE the computer!
注意:续写词数应为 150左右。
Their dream came true and they decided to let loose and drift along the long tubes and have some fun.

But after a few days they started missing something and that was the feel of love.

Getting Lost in a Good Book Can Help Keep You Healthy
I'm a novelist and it's obviously in my interest to encourage people to read. But there's increasing evidence that reading isn't just for pleasure, or merely a way of improving literacy skills and factual knowledge.
Firstly, reading helps to lengthen attention spans in children and improves their ability to think clearly. It is essential to learn this skill as a small child. The more they do it, the better they get at it.
Also, reading can help people learn to empathize(产 生 共 鸣 ). A recent study at the University of Michigan found that there had been a 48% decrease in empathy among college students. In a computer game, you might have rescued a princess, but you don't care about her, you just want to win. But a princess in a book has a past, present and future, she has connections and motivations. We can relate to her. We see the world through her eyes.
As a matter of fact, reading is far from a passive activity. Reading exercises the whole brain.
When we read and imagine the landscapes, sounds, smells and tastes described on the page, the various areas of the brain that are used to process these experiences in real life are activated, creating new neural( 神 经 ) pathways. This doesn't happen when we're watching TV or playing a computer game.
Getting sucked into a good novel appears to be beneficial to our mental health too. Reading not only avoids feelings of loneliness, it helps us to wind down, de-stress and forget our own problems for a while.
A. Encouraging reading could overcome this.
B. As the old saying goes, " You're never alone with a book."
C. But those who did not enjoy these activities had lots of loss.
D. It might actually be good for our mental and physical health too.
E. When we read a good book, we're trying to find out its main idea.
F. In other words, our brains model real experiences, just as if we were living them ourselves.
G. Stories have a structure that encourages their brains to think in sequence, to link cause, effect and significance.

I was selfish as a teenager. I usually spent my time thinking about myself and taking care of my own needs. I let my older brother do most of the work around the house until he left for college. I let my mom and dad worry about our bills and problems while I read books, played, and lost myself in my own imagination. This didn't change even when I went to college either. I studied hard but only to make my own life better. Even when I started to explore my faith, it was only to increase my own happiness.
I married after graduation and decided to start a family. Of course, I had no idea what hard knocks reality had in store for my selfish soul. Soon I found myself unemployed, deeply in debt, and with a new baby on the way. l found out that life has little sympathy for spoiled people. In fact, all of the struggles I was going through were beating the selfishness slowly out of me.
Still, I didn't give up on happiness. I knew that there must be a way to find it. I finally realized, however, that it had to include more than just my own needs, wants, and desires. The answer began to make itself clear one night shortly after my baby boy was born. I got a bottle and held him in my arms. As I was feeding him I looked down and saw his big, innocent, trusting eyes. I smiled and talked to him. Then he smiled and I could feel my heart growing, expanding with love. I felt such peace and joy. At that moment I had a hint of the truth: it is by growing our hearts with love that we find our happiness.
Carolyn Arends wrote:" The more people you let into your heart, the bigger your heart gets. The more love you get, the more love you have to give. It just keeps growing." So, keep loving, keep living and keep caring. Keep growing your heart today, tomorrow, and always.

From a young age, many of us learn the benefits of being an extrovert —those individuals who always seem to be the life and soul of the party, often outspoken and able to express their opinions fluently. However, not all of us are wired that way —so is being an extrovert really better?
While thinking of an extrovert, we imagine a character who is determined, approachable, cheerful and charming. We are taught to admire these personalities early on. Kids are often encouraged to interact, play and communicate with other children. It seems at times as though children are made to have a more outgoing lifestyle, with some people becoming false extroverts introverts who copy extrovert behavior. While externally they may seem to enjoy the company of others, or being in the center of public attention, they can still become over—extended in intense social situations.
So, while the positive aspects of being an extrovert are plain to see, what are the benefits of introversion? Although extroverts depend on social interaction, introverts are more comfortable with levels of isolation. According to Dr Berit, a college professor, extreme isolation such as times like the lockdown, does not affect introverts as much as extroverts. Lack of social contact, something extroverts rely on, can lead to depression, loneliness, and even death.
But it's not just in an extreme situation that an introvert shines through. These people seem to have more time for deep thought and thus can become more balanced. They also tend to be good listeners and think before they speak, meaning they could become great friends. Finally, introverts are often fantastic observers, as sitting out of the focus can give them more time to watch the behavior of others.
So, whatever your personality, either introvert or extrovert, there are clear advantages to being either, and if you meet an introvert, you might just end up with an amazing friend.
(1)、What is a distinctive characteristic of an extrovert?A、Intelligent. B、Considerate. C、Sociable. D、Responsible.(2)、Which statement is true according to Dr Berit?A、Introverts should learn from extroverts. B、Extroverts tend to become better friends. C、Introverts prefer staying cut off from others. D、Extroverts find it tougher to handle isolation.(3)、What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us?A、The influence of introverts. B、The strengths of being introverts. C、The causes of introverts' behavior. D、The personalities of false introverts.(4)、What's the purpose of the text?A、To state a viewpoint. B、To advocate a lifestyle. C、To introduce a technique. D、To describe a phenomenon. -

Staff at the Thai Dynasty restaurant in Singapore never thought they'd receive such a huge tip during the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), when economic condition seemed hard, let alone one as big as $600. But believe it or not, they did.
What was more surprising, however, was the person who left that massive tip for them. It wasn't from a customer who was feeling extra generous that day. No, it was Jesse, a food delivery rider who came by to pick up an online order.

Lake Titicaca Tour
Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you spend a day driving to Lake Titicaca. There, a boat will take you to stay with a local Uros family on an island for three days. Both the island and the Uros homes are made of water plants from the lake.
