My 15-year-old boy is a high achiever. He is very bright, pursuing everything he does with devotion and determination. And he is a great kid; honest, kind, faithful and caring.
Like a lot of kids who are high achievers, he is a perfectionist and very easy to fall into anxiety. That is manifested in his study, and other things he does as well. For example, he loves tennis but he is often worried about losing in the game. Now he has to stop competing because the pressure he puts on himself is becoming unhealthy. He still plays, but playing socially rather than competitively means that it's an outlet for him rather than a source of stress.
He does not manage stress well. He puts so much pressure on himself to the point of worrying himself sick over just about every assessment. And he gets so negative about it, everything I say to him is met with negativity, every suggestion with a response that it won't work, and honestly it's depressing and tiring.
To help my son, I had a patient conversation with him, and he finally followed my advice about physical exercise to ease stress. Whenever he was under a lot of pressure, I would run with him for half an bour and do some push-ups to relax the pressure. Gradually, he became less nervous in the later exams and his scores became more and more stable.
Pressure from grades and perfectionism can be really hard to manage when it comes to schooling. As kids, what they need is effective communication and sincere encouragement. So I have always told and shown my son that we're proud of him, and that pride doesn't merely depend on top grades.

Do you feel like you are not living the life you want? It's your life, so why does it seem like you are not in control? Below are some important lessons for life.
As Mark Twain said, comparison is the death of joy. It will mostly contribute to making you feel more painful, because it produces a lot of bad emotions. Comparing yourself to others is pointless, because we all have our own unique paths to follow. This will help you grow and constantly improve yourself.
You are afraid of change. Why are most people afraid of change? Mostly because we fear the unknown, and anything that threatens our serenity(平静) is seen as challenging. But it does not have to be this way. It teaches us to adapt to situations we never knew we could. It helps us discover ourselves. Accepting change also helps us to be more adaptable in life. This will afford you more possibilities and opportunities in your life.
You are wasting time on things you cannot control. The sooner you realize that fact, the closer you get to living the life you want. How do you stop wasting time on things that are out of your control? Start by finding out what is within your control, such as your attitude, goals and decisions. Then think about what you cannot control, such as other people's values and behaviors.
Putting these important lessons for life into practice will surely improve your life.
A. You are always comparing yourself to others.B. In fact, being able to accept change has many benefits.
C. Spend more time on the things that are within your control.
D. Change must happen, so you might as well learn to enjoy it.
E. A better approach would be to compare your present self to your future self.
F. The painful truth is that there are many things that you cannot control in your life.
G. The information you are using as a basis for your judgement (评价) is likely incorrect

It is common that children spend a great deal of time on the screen. As a new tool, an Australian app appears to help parents in the battle over screen time. It asks kids to solve one math or English problem before they can unlock their phones.
Sydney entrepreneurs(企业家) Issac and Ann EInckave turned their smart idea into an app called 1Qucstion and tried it on their 16-year-old daughter Alyssa.
Alyssa said, "At first I wasn't sure about it. I didn't want my friends to blame me if their parents used it to control their screen time. But once I started using it, I realized it doesn't take so long to answer a question and it's actually fabulous "
Research shows almost 50% of children aged 6 to 16 either have a mobile phone or have access to one. The majority play games or use apps like YouTube for about five hours a day on average. "The 1Question app creates micro learning moments, "Mrs. Elnekave said. "We created a solution that combines screen time with study. "
With $2.99 a month, parents can download the app onto their child's phone, select their grade and curriculum subjects, then control each time their child correctly answers a question to open a game or app such as YouTube.
"We designed the user experience to be really simple, but under it is our extremely intelligent AI engine, "Mr. Elnekave said. "As your child learns, so does the AI, which works out each child's areas of strength and weakness and creates a suitable path for their learning. "
The app has a base of 12, 000 questions developed by teachers using the Australian, British and American curriculums designed for primary school children.
(1)、What do we know about the 1Question app?A、It won't charge users any money and can be used on computers. B、It contains questions not suitable for primary school students. As for the choice of jobs, girls and boys as young as seven have preference with gender ( 性 别 ) differences in a new study. Girls choose jobs based on care and love, while boys choose jobs based on money and power.
Professor Laura Scholes and Dr Sarah McDonald surveyed 332 Year 3 students from 14 Australian schools. They found that the top professions for boys included sports and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related jobs, while girls, on the other hand, wanted to be teachers or nurses.
Professor Scholes said the influence of gender stereotypes (刻板印象) on such choices begins in early childhood. "Bright pink toys for girls and blue toys for boys are sold on store shelves around the world. " she said, "In the boys' section, you'll find science, construction and warfare toys—perhaps a robot or a telescope. In the girls' section, you'll see toys related to cleaning, dolls, kitchens, makeup, jewellery and crafts. "
"This results in lower numbers of girls taking STEM subjects at school. In turn, this means fewer women are going to work in the sciences. " Professor Scholes's comments came as women make up only 2 percent of the STEM workforce, with the biggest gap in the highest-paid jobs of computer science and engineering.
In Australia, some brands (品牌)are no longer targeting boys or girls with their toys. Danish toy giant Lego last week announced that they would remove gender stereotypes from their toys, after a global study found that 71 percent of boys feared being made fun of for playing with toys marketed at girls. Lego said its products were mainly used by boys, but it promised to work to remove gender preference from its toys and instead market them for both genders.
(1)、Which of the following jobs do the girls not tend to choose?A、Teachers. B、Programmers. C、Dressers D、Nurses.(2)、What causes fewer girls to choose STEM subjects according to Professor Scholes?A、The effect of gender stereotypes. B、Their desire to be teachers or nurses. C、Their hobbies based on care and love. D、Low-paid jobs concerned with sciences.(3)、What can we learn from Paragraph 5?A、Some brands advertise their products for boys. B、Some brands use gender stereotypes from their toys. C、Some brands advertise their products for both genders. D、Some brands target boys or girls with their products.(4)、What is the Lego's attitude towards removing gender difference from the toys?A、Supportive. B、Worried. C、Doubtful. D、Negative. -
