My 15-year-old boy is a high achiever. He is very bright, pursuing everything he does with devotion and determination. And he is a great kid; honest, kind, faithful and caring.

Like a lot of kids who are high achievers, he is a perfectionist and very easy to fall into anxiety. That is manifested in his study, and other things he does as well. For example, he loves tennis but he is often worried about losing in the game. Now he has to stop competing because the pressure he puts on himself is becoming unhealthy. He still plays, but playing socially rather than competitively means that it's an outlet for him rather than a source of stress.

He does not manage stress well. He puts so much pressure on himself to the point of worrying himself sick over just about every assessment. And he gets so negative about it, everything I say to him is met with negativity, every suggestion with a response that it won't work, and honestly it's depressing and tiring.

To help my son, I had a patient conversation with him, and he finally followed my advice about physical exercise to ease stress. Whenever he was under a lot of pressure, I would run with him for half an bour and do some push-ups to relax the pressure. Gradually, he became less nervous in the later exams and his scores became more and more stable.

Pressure from grades and perfectionism can be really hard to manage when it comes to schooling. As kids, what they need is effective communication and sincere encouragement. So I have always told and shown my son that we're proud of him, and that pride doesn't merely depend on top grades.

You can either travel or read, but either your body or your soul must be on the way. The popular saying has inspired many people to read or go sightseeing. Here are four books that you can take on your trip.

⒈On the Road, 1957, by Jack Kerouac

The book is a popular spiritual guidebook about youth. The main character in the book drives across the US continent with several young people and finally reaches Mexico. After the exhausting and exciting trip, the characters in the book begin to realize the meaning of life.

⒉Life Is Elsewhere, 1975, by Milan Kundera

Jean-Jacques Rousseau once said, "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains." The book describes a young artist's romantic but miserable life, about how he reads, dreams and has a relationship during his trip to Central Europe. The book invites you to deeply reflects on your current life and to honor the Czech-born writer Kundera.

The novel tells a story of a 60-year-old man who lived a boring and unhappy life, until one day, he received his old friend's letter who got cancer. In deep shock and sorrow, he went out to send his reply letter. 627 miles in 87 days, he walked depending on one belief that "his friend can survive as long as he walks".

A GIFT FOR GRANDPA

Jack and his brother Harry were filled with excitement, as they planned to visit their grandparents again this summer vacation

The big day came at last. After the happy family got ready, they set out for the grandparents' cagerly On the way, the brothers were excitedly talking about the fun they had with grandparents. 

A little blue house with a tall white chimney finally appeared. Behind the house was the forest carrying their good memories with Grandpa. They arrived at the driveway, at the end of which Grandma was waiting for them joyfully. 

Jack and Harry each gave Grandma a big hug and then swept to the living room, shouting excitedly "Grandpa, we are back!" Seeing his grandsons, Grandpa was wild with joy and tried to get up with all his strength from the chair but in vain. A helpless expression flashed on his face. Grandma explained that his health was declining rapidly and maybe couldn't stand up on his own forever. But Grandpa declared stubbornly (倔强地), "I can!" Certainly, he was stuck in his boyish way. Mum and grandparents were happy to meet again after a long time. They sat together and chatted about what happened recently.

It is common that children spend a great deal of time on the screen. As a new tool, an Australian app appears to help parents in the battle over screen time. It asks kids to solve one math or English problem before they can unlock their phones. 

Sydney entrepreneurs(企业家) Issac and Ann EInckave turned their smart idea into an app called 1Qucstion and tried it on their 16-year-old daughter Alyssa. 

Alyssa said, "At first I wasn't sure about it. I didn't want my friends to blame me if their parents used it to control their screen time. But once I started using it, I realized it doesn't take so long to answer a question and it's actually fabulous "

Research shows almost 50% of children aged 6 to 16 either have a mobile phone or have access to one. The majority play games or use apps like YouTube for about five hours a day on average. "The 1Question app creates micro learning moments, "Mrs. Elnekave said. "We created a solution that combines screen time with study. "

With $2.99 a month, parents can download the app onto their child's phone, select their grade and curriculum subjects, then control each time their child correctly answers a question to open a game or app such as YouTube. 

"We designed the user experience to be really simple, but under it is our extremely intelligent AI engine, "Mr. Elnekave said. "As your child learns, so does the AI, which works out each child's areas of strength and weakness and creates a suitable path for their learning. "

The app has a base of 12, 000 questions developed by teachers using the Australian, British and American curriculums designed for primary school children. 

As for the choice of jobs, girls and boys as young as seven have preference with gender ( 性 别 ) differences in a new study. Girls choose jobs based on care and love, while boys choose jobs based on money and power. 

Professor Laura Scholes and Dr Sarah McDonald surveyed 332 Year 3 students from 14 Australian schools. They found that the top professions for boys included sports and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related jobs, while girls, on the other hand, wanted to be teachers or nurses. 

Professor Scholes said the influence of gender stereotypes (刻板印象) on such choices begins in early childhood. "Bright pink toys for girls and blue toys for boys are sold on store shelves around the world. " she said, "In the boys' section, you'll find science, construction and warfare toys—perhaps a robot or a telescope. In the girls' section, you'll see toys related to cleaning, dolls, kitchens, makeup, jewellery and crafts. "

In Australia, some brands (品牌)are no longer targeting boys or girls with their toys. Danish toy giant Lego last week announced that they would remove gender stereotypes from their toys, after a global study found that 71 percent of boys feared being made fun of for playing with toys marketed at girls. Lego said its products were mainly used by boys, but it promised to work to remove gender preference from its toys and instead market them for both genders. 

Good things will occur if parents always support their children and their natural talents. When 9-year-old Joe Whale's parents encouraged their son to keep drawing, that's what exactly they thought, even though he got into trouble for doodling(涂鸦)during class. 

Joe's artistic abilities were quickly noticed by those around him after he was sent to an after-school art class. In fact, Joe was invited to decorate the dining room of the "Number 4" restaurant in Shrewsbury, England. Now, Joe is known as The Doodle Boy and has his own website, as well as social media pages showing off his awesome art.

What's more, Greg had some advice for parents who want to encourage their kids to develop their talents:"I would advise parents to encourage their children to always follow their passion and dreams and they should be there and offer help whenever their children need them. "

Joe's teacher recognized his talent and posted his work on Instagram. Then his drawings caught the eye of the "Number 4" restaurant which asked him to come over and decorate their walls with his doodles. Now, his dad drives him there so he can draw his heart out. Who knew that drawing in an after-class program would lead Joe to get his first job at barely 9 years old?
