The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024, will take place on the Seine River. The government (announce) the news last Monday, breaking the long held Summer Games tradition of stadium procession of athletes and officials. 

More than 160 boats (load) with athletes, and officials, from more than 200 countries and regions will sail almost 6 kilometers between the Pont d' Austerlitz and Pont d' Iena bridges in central Paris. The closing ceremony is scheduled (hold) at, the Les Jardins du Trocadero, an expanse of gardens and fountains which overlook the Eiffel Tower.

"Today is  standout moment," said Tony Estanguet, a three-time Olympic canoe C1 gold winner  heads up the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee. 

Paris 2024 organizers are expecting crowds of 600,000 people for  they call the largest-ever Olympic ceremony—ten (time) more than in the Stade de France. 

Part of the public will be scattered（分散）along the banks of Seine in ticketed stands while the rest are able to take part  free. 

French President supported the idea of （arrange）the ceremony on the Seine in July, although some voiced concerns over how to ensure （secure）for such a big event. 

I've always been very sporty, even when pregnant with my four children. But when my third child George was born, everything 1 . As a very 2  baby, he was always on the go and never slept. I still kept 3 , but when he turned two, he started to have some 4  problems. One night we took him to hospital, and within 12 hours we were told he had 5  cancer of the white blood cells. It was his third birthday.

I also 17  in obstacle course races (OCR) and won the Spartan world champion. The thing that 18  me is the memory of George at rock bottom; I want all my kids to see that you can never 19 . You just need motivation and passion. Just like my' story-when George had cancer, exercise helped me cope with the difficulty and gave me a new 20 .

E-waste is a serious problem that isn't going to get better on its own. 

Maybe the biggest cause of our e-waste problem is the fact that we buy things that we just don't need. Next time you feel like you need a device or electronic item, stop yourself and ask if it is truly necessary. This is maybe also the easiest way we can manage e-waste.  If you don't keep your connectors, DVDs, wires and gadgets（小器具）organized, you won't be aware of what you have. When we buy duplicate electronics because we think we need them, we are contributing to our growing e-waste problem. "How to manage e-waste" becomes less of an issue when we keep our own houses in order. 

If you do not need a piece of equipment and it is in good enough condition to be reused, donate it as soon as you can so that somebody else can use it. Donations are good for us because they are a useful way to get tax deductions（减税）, and a lot of times that tax deduction will be close to the value of the item had you tried to sell it.  Some stores offer trade-in programs, where you can drop off your old equipment in return for gift cards. 

There are also places to sell electronics that might be valuable to somebody else. Just be sure to sell them right away, because they lose value very rapidly in our changing market. 

If you are frequently receiving memory sticks and little gadgets, collect them into a good-e-bag.  You might be surprised at how quickly it fills up. So be sure you are utilizing your materials and products thoughtfully. With these tips you can use DIY solutions to learn how to manage e-waste.

Remember boiling tap water for drinking? Who has the time now? Instead, bottled water is everywhere, in offices, airplanes, stores, homes and restaurants. But what's in that bottle? Beautiful names and labels depicting romantic scenes have convinced us that the liquid is the purest drink around. But given the lack of labeling requirements for bottled water, how much do consumers really know about what's in the bottle? "The public should not assume that water purchased in a bottle, is better regulated purer, or safer than most tap water. Water utilities are required to tell the public more about the tap water than bottled water companies are," says Mae Wu, a bottled water (expert at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a nonprofit organization in the US devoted to protecting health and the environment. Sure, some bottled water comes from sparkling springs and other, sources. But in the US, alone, more than 25 percent of it comes from a municipal（市政的）supply. The water is treated, purified and sold to us, often at a thousand fold increase in price. Most people are surprised to learn that they are drinking glorified tap water, but bottlers aren't required to list the source on the label.

According to the Asian Bottled Water Association, water from municipal supply does not have to state on its label that it is from a community water system. However, there are some brands like Nestle Pure Life that indicate whether the water comes from public, private or deep well sources. Advertising can be misleading at best and deceptive at worst. In a recent case, a food and drink manufacturer boasted in a TV commercial that its mineral water came from a "high-quality water source" but it turned out that, that was no more than plain tap water. 

The potential health risks are important to understand, but bottled water also affects the health of the planet. While we struggle to, cut down on our consumption of fossil fuels, bottled water increases it. Virgin petroleum（石油）is used to make PET, and the more bottles we use, the more virgin petroleum will be needed to create new bottles. Fossil fuels are burned to fill the bottles and distribute them. Some brands of water come from islands and countries thousands of kilometers away, and shipping bottles can cause carbon pollution to spill into the water and spew into the air. 

Rice now has its own big data platform, claimed a conference in early April. Led by the China National Rice Research Institute, the platform records data throughout every, stage of rice production, including collection, storage, and analysis. It will also regularly publish reports to improve the service of rice production, providing convenience to farmers. Apart from big data, other technology is aiding agriculture in China in recent years. 

Flying above

Drones（无人机）play an important role in farming this spring. "Using drones to spread the nutrient solution（营养液）is a lot safer than doing it manually（手动地）, "Shi Zhenhai, a farmer in Henan who is responsible for about 119 hectares of wheat fields said. Shi added that the flying machines greatly improved efficiency. The more advanced drones that the farmer bought recently can be filled with 50 liters of liquid, which can be used to cover about 3.4 hectare farmland. With four drones working at the same time, it only takes three hours to finish spreading the solution over all of Shi's land. 

Monitoring on their own

A smart glass greenhouse used to grow tomatoes features more than 120 patented technologies. Located in Shandong, the demonstration base covers' about 80, 000 square meters but requires very few workers. 

Sensors collect information about the plants, such as the humidity（湿度）of the environment, the condition of sunlight and heat, and whether the room is ventilated（通风）enough. It is then uploaded to a platform to be analyzed. The correct levels of water and fertilizer are supplied to crops by the automatic irrigation system, Robots and other devices are used to pick and transport tomatoes. 

With facilities to store heat, the structure does not use huge amounts of energy in winter, unlike traditional greenhouses. "Growing crops in a controlled environment enables farmers to produce high-quality plants, maintain high food safety standards, and avoid the use of pesticides," Wang Haiguang at the operations office of the greenhouse said. 

Ecuadorian writer Veronica Bonilla has received the Special Book Award for 2021, the highest recognition by China for a foreign writer.

At an emotional ceremony held Monday at the Chinese embassy in Ecuador, Bonilla received a golden statuette for her outstanding contribution to promoting Chinese culture.

"I feel-happy, honored and pleased to be the first Ecuadorian to receive this award and also to be the first Latin American to receive it. It is a very important thing. It fills me with pride and happiness," said Bonilla, visibly moved.

"I am writing about China, a country that I fell in love with when I had the opportunity to get to know it because I want the children of the world to get to know China," Bonilla said, adding that all the work and effort she has put into her work pays off.

The China Special Book Award has been awarded since 2005 to foreign translators, writers and publishers who have made significant contribution to promoting Chinese culture in the world.

Monday's ceremony in Quito was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador Chen Guoyou, and Acting Ecuadorian Vice Foreign Minister Augusto Saa.

Saa said that Bonilla's work is an example of the value of culture as' a means of union between peoples. "Our countries have managed to develop an active cultural diplomacy and a powerful soft power tool that has contributed to mutual understanding."

In congratulation, Chinese Ambassador Chen Guoyou said that Bonilla received the well-deserved award thanks to her long-term dedication to promoting Chinese culture to Ecuadorian children.

"Recent years have witnessed the growing dynamism in the cultural exchange between the two nations through contacts in culture, science, technology, sports, education, among others," Chen said, noting that relations between China and Ecuador are at the best moment in history.

The Ecuadorian writer has so far translated three of her 83 books into Chinese.

REQUIREMENTS 

Students must have their study abroad office complete the Statement from University form in order to be considered for the scholarship.

Must meet GPA (Grade Point Average) requirement for the individual program that they want to attend.

Must be a university student in the United States.

Students can only apply for the scholarship once per application cycle; applicants should select their top program choice when applying for the scholarship.

Scholarship applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Will be based on the overall application materials including a personal essay addressing the following question: "Why have you selected this program? How is it tied to your major?"

Applications will be judged by a panel of TEAN staff members.

Assessment will be based, on the following: excellence in academics, active participation in extra-curricular activities, achievement in leadership skills, awareness of the value of international education and the personal essay.

No interview required.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

When I was a child, my family went to the beach often. However, we 1  played in the sand or swam in the ocean. Nature was to be 2  far away, with the car windscreen in between. We would wave to the sea from our 3 , watch the sunset and drive home. My parents were 4  in crowded and polluted cities. Their upbringing made them think maybe it was 5  for kids to stay inside. Without knowing it, I was 6  by their attitudes.

It was my own children who led me to another 7 . They liked observing earthworms and jumping in mud; their such 8  about the natural world allowed me to see it in a 9  way. On beach trips, I found myself 10  to dig into the sand with them and 11  its cool graininess (颗粒感) as they buried me in it.

Last summer, my love for 12 led to us buying a house in a farming town near a mountain. It's something I wouldn't have 13 as a city girl. I've found a deeper connection to nature and I'm grateful for it. There are miles of tracks around us that I 14 every day. I walk through snow, mud and rain, 15 my boots — which I bring straight into the house.

Patience is something that many of us struggle with. I know that I am certainly one who has a hard time dealing with delays. After all, we live in a world of instant satisfaction and overnight shipping. We can have anything that we want delivered to our doorstep right away. We can pick from a variety of entertainment options at any given moment. 

The truth of the matter is, however, that anything good rarely happens quickly.  You have to develop your patience over time by taking real action. This applies to a number of things: launching a business, waiting to go to an event, or striving to achieve your personal goals.

Here are a few tips to help you become more patient:

Make yourself wait on things. This can include eating, purchasing items, or taking any sort of action.  It will help you increase your current patience levels and become less anxious moving forward. Try it.

Sometimes pause actually means there is hope. Perhaps you'll meet a lot of wonderful people while waiting in line, or you will find that something put off is actually better in the future.

Understand that life is full of delays.  If there were delays, we would all have to accept. Ups and downs are what build character, and often, the longer we wait, the more we enjoy it. So wait it out with the best of them.

Actor Anthony Anderson has realized a dream 30 years in the making. The 51-year-old1 a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University last week. "It was all a dream! Words fail to 2 the feeling I'm having right now," Anderson wrote on a social media platform. "My proudest moment is a sense of 3 — finishing what I started many years ago."

Anderson finished his junior year at Howard 30 years ago. 4  some financial difficulties, he had to ask for a 5  from school. He worked hard to make a 6 . Later he started a family and his career 7 . He played the starring roles in many films and became a

8 . The following years he was occupied in his work and didn't return to school. It was something he always felt 9 about — until his son, Nathan, gained 10 to Howard four years ago. That inspired his longing for university study, so he was 11 to go back and finish his degree.

"This spring I was 12 able to finish the work to graduate from Howard University," Anderson said. He marked it as a 13 by calling it "a full-circle moment" and 14 his fans, "It's never too late.
