When I first landed at Ferihegy Airport in Budapest, I had no idea what was awaiting me. I was tired when our driver picked us up, but the view of graffiti(涂鸦)written in German, Russian, and Hungarian just blew me away. As we got closer to the city, I felt like I was in a place that was magically changed through time and none in the city had noticed.

I felt as if it was a forgotten place, but it really shouldn't be. I found that the air of Budapest was welcoming and nearly everyone was friendly. Most younger people there spoke English, but the non-English speakers were helpful in trying to explain to me that I had given them the wrong amount of forints in paying for an item. If you're interested in shopping, there is the Mammut which is a nice sized mall on the Buda side of the Danube. The locals explained to us that we should not shop at the mall because it is expensive.

When I checked out at a great store called Jazz, I found the opposite. I got a formal gown for $ 14!!! Looking back, I'd like to go to the places where the locals shopped. I stayed at the Mohdcsi Panzi6.It was $ 50 a night and the breakfast was wonderful. Our room overlooked a garden and was on the second story of the house, where you could see the hills in the distance.

When I was there we played "futbol" with a plastic piece of tubing we found near the waste bin. Margit Island is a huge park just inside the city. A lot of activities can be found on that island, from playing football to riding around on really strange-looking bikes. If you ever decide to take a trip to Budapest, you may never want to come back.

The Colorado National Monument, a national park, is an area of great extremes. The ground rises very sharply from the surrounding flat desert area. At first, it seems to be nothing more than huge and very colorful rocks shaped by nature. But if you spend a few hours walking slowly on its many paths, you soon learn that it is very much alive. 

Scientists have found seashells high in these mountains and the fossils(化石)of ancient ocean creatures. Near the Colorado National Park researchers have found the huge fossils of ancient reptiles(爬行动物)called dinosaurs(恐龙). One fossil found early last century was the largest fossil dinosaur ever found at that time.

It was huge and it surprised scientists around the world. Scientists are still busy looking for remains of these creatures that died millions of years ago. However, not all of the animals found in or near the park are fossils. Because the area is desert, it is easy to believe that nothing is living here. But if you are very quiet and stay very still, you can see much life in the park. Mountain lions live here. It is very difficult to see them. However, visitors sometimes see the foot marks these big cats left in the soft sand.

If you look closely, you can see small rabbits searching for food or water early in the morning. On hot days you might see deer resting in the shade of trees. The deer are protected from hunters. Often they show little fear of people. Visitors must be careful not to surprise a small reptile called the rattlesnake. The bite of this snake can be very painful and make the injured sick.

Years ago, I could not stick to exercising until I bought a CD called I Enjoy Exercise. I listened to it every day. I bought the CD because I wanted to run in a race and hopefully win!

I had promised my 10-year-old son Todd that I would run in a race with him. Unfortunately, however, when that race came about, his left leg was hurt in a car accident. Without him running with me, although I took part in that race, yet I didn't do quite well in it.

While Todd couldn't run together with me because of his injury, he never forgot the promise I made for him. He was always asking me whether I would keep my promise when he recovered in the future. So I decided I was going to train and go all out to win the next race. What I needed was motivation(动力).It happened that one of my friends mentioned the CD which he liked very much, saying that he got a lot from the music in it when feeling down. So I bought it and listened to it while exercising every day.

It was amazing what happened to my thinking as I listened to it daily. I started to think about the repeated words on the CD-"I enjoy exercise". Instead of dreading exercise, I was thinking, "I enjoy exercise."

I found out how important words are that we play in our minds every day. I went from a person who seldom exercised to someone who started to exercise daily. Just think how our lives will improve if we reflect on the motivating words of the famous works. I have found the positive messages have greatly improved my thinking and then changed my life.

How did I do in that race, you might be thinking? I actually won the gold medal in my age group.

According to a recent study in the Journal of Consumer Research, both the size and consumption habits of our eating companions can influence our food intake. And contrary to existing research that says you should avoid eating with heavier people who order large portions（份）, it's the beanpoles with big appetites you really need to avoid.

To test the effect of social influence on eating habits, the researchers conducted two experiments. In the first, 95 undergraduate women were individually invited into a lab to ostensibly（表面上）participate in a study about movie viewership. Before the film began, each woman was asked to help herself to a snack. An actor hired by the researchers grabbed her food first. In her natural state, the actor weighed 105 pounds. But in half the cases she wore a specially designed fat suit which increased her weight to 180 pounds. 

Both the fat and thin versions of the actor took a large amount of food. The participants followed suit, taking more food than they normally would have. However, they took significantly more when the actor was thin. 

For the second test, in one case the thin actor took two pieces of candy from the snack bowls. In the other case, she took 30 pieces. The results were similar to the first test: the participants followed suit but took significantly more candy when the thin actor took 30 pieces. 

The tests show that the social environment is extremely influential when we're making decisions. If this fellow participant is going to eat more, so will I. Call it the "I'll have what she's having" effect. However, we'll adjust the influence. If an overweight person is having a large portion, I'll hold back a bit because I see the results of his eating habits. But if a thin person eats a lot, I'll follow suit. If he can eat much and keep slim, why can't I?

In the mid-1990s, Tom Bissell taught English as a volunteer in Uzbekistan. He left after seven months, physically broken and having lost his mind. A few years later, still attracted to the country, he returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea. 

His visit, however, ended up involving a lot more than that. Hence this book, Chasing the Sea: Lost Among the Ghosts of Empire in Central Asia, which talks about a road trip from Tashkent to Karakalpakstan, where millions of lives have been destroyed by the slow drying up of the sea. It is the story of an American travelling to a strange land, and of the people he meets on his way: Rustam, his translator, a lovely 24-year-old who picked up his colorful English in California, Oleg and Natasha, his hosts in Tashkent, and a string of foreign aid workers. 

This is a quick look at life in Uzbekistan, made of friendliness and warmth, but also its darker side of society. In Samarkand, Mr Bissell admires the architectural wonders, while on his way to Bukhara he gets a taste of police methods when suspected of drug dealing. In Ferghana, he attends a mountain funeral（葬礼）followed by a strange drinking party. And in Karakalpakstan, he is saddened by the dust storms, diseases and fishing boats stuck miles from the sea. 

Mr Bissell skillfully organizes historical insights and cultural references, making his tale a well-rounded picture of Uzbekistan, seen from Western eyes. His judgment and references are decidedly American, as well as his delicate stomach. As the author explains, this is neither a travel nor a history book, or even a piece of reportage. Whatever it is, the result is a fine and vivid description of the purest of Central Asian traditions.
