It is proved that EchoSpeech could recognize 31 commands and connected data with error rates of less than 10 percent. The speakers and microphones are placed on different lenses on different sides of the face. When the speakers give off sound waves around 20 kilohertz, it travels in a path from one lens to the lips and then to the opposite lens. As the sound waves from the speakers reflect and diffract after hitting the lips, their distinct patterns are caught by microphones and used to make "echo profiles" for each phrase or command. It effectively works like a simple, mini sonar system.

"Because the data is processed locally on your smartphone instead of being uploaded to the cloud, privacy-sensitive information never leaves your control," a professor noted. Plus, audio data takes less bandwidth to transmit than videos or images, and takes less power to run as well.

The sanctuary is home to 84 bears, with 20 more due to be rescued.

I spent 15 years trying to make it in the music industry. When I was a teenager, I did any odd job to afford time in a recording studio. I knocked at managers' doors and sent out demo (录音样带) after demo, but I got nowhere. In 2010, aged 27, I was doing a job in a restaurant when I wrote a song called Dream Goes On. It was a song about never giving up. I just let out all of my frustrations at the keyboard.

Later that year, I received an email out of the blue from Music World from South Korea, requesting a license for the song. They had chosen my song from the millions on the music-sharing website for a theme tune for one of their shows. I was amazed and negotiated a contract for $5,000 for the use of the song and signed up straight away. I was pretty excited, but didn't think anything more would come of it, so I focused on my job in the restaurant.

This February, Music World organized a musical festival in Seoul and my song Dream Goes On was also chosen as the theme tune for the festival. I watched on YouTube as my song was being played to a huge crowd of people. It was amazing.

After three days of the festival, I was contacted by Music World and they asked if I'd like to go to Seoul to sing Dream Goes On in a concert. They flew me out there the next day. I was welcomed like a celebrity—everyone I met thought I was a big name in England. I had to break the news to them that I wasn't a pop star.

The "Cross-Time and Space Dialogue" exhibition between Ningbo and Xi' an is the first domestic exhibition to showcase the combined cultural relics of the Silk Road, the Maritime Silk Road, and the   Grand Canal, all of are world heritage sites.

Zhang Liang, the director of Ningbo Museum, said, "the Ningbo Museum (seek) partnerships with cultural institutions for years to enable audiences of the Yangtze River Delta region to appreciate treasures at their doorstep. Xi' an is the starting point of the overland Silk Road Ningbo serves as a critical hub of the Maritime Silk Road. The two cities are (close) connected through canals."

"We wanted to create something rich and comprehensive, but that also meant setting ourselves enormous task," said Zhang.

Researchers conducted two experiments in the United States and a field study in South Korea to investigate the meanings employees associate with their dress. In the first experiment, participants viewed photos of different outfits (套装) and indicated what they thought each would convey in a "business-casual" office. In the second, participants first changed into business-casual clothing and then into new business-casual outfits they selected to correspond with one of three randomly assigned characteristics: aesthetics (美学), conformity (一致性).uniqueness. A control group was asked to select an outfit similar to their first one. All participants were told to imagine that they worked at a company where people could generally wear what they wanted to and where most choose business-casual dress. After each clothing change they reported on how they would feel going to work in what they had on, what they thought their clothing would convey, and their level of self-esteem (自尊).

The experiments showed that people associate clothing high in aesthetics with personal attractiveness conforming clothing with a sense belong, and unique clothing with distinctiveness. and revealed that each of the three qualities raised self-esteem.

The field study involved 84 white-col1ar employees who worked on-site and were free to choose their clothes They filled out three questionnaires daily for 10days, reporting on what they were wearing, their self-esteem, their interactions with colleagues and their productivity. Aesthetic and unique clothing boosted self-esteem, which in turn boosted progress toward job goals and decreased social avoidance. Dress conformity had similar effects, but only when employees frequently interacted with colleagues.

"Investing a little extra time in the morning to prepare an outfit that is aesthetically pleasing and unique-and, if interactions with others are expected, highly conforming to organizational standards—can have a meaningful impact on how an employee feels about themselves throughout the workday," the researchers write.

Ethan had always lived by checklists — precise and detailed. At school, he double-checked his answers, rewrote notes in perfect handwriting, and organized his pens by size and color.
