That's what art therapist(治疗专家), Lisa Murray, believed as she worked to help children with cancer to release their feelings through their drawings, which have turned into a book, Angels & Monsters.

Murray found that in their struggle, kids would tell her constantly, "I'm just a regular kid; I just want to play, to go to school, to go outside. . . I just happen to have cancer. "

She was moved and inspired by their simple will to survive. The children were facing the disease head on. She saw some powerful images in their artwork. "What courage it takes to do that, " said Murray.

Murray selected 25 children aged 13 months to 18 years. She asked the four- year-olds and up, "If you could tell the world what it is like to have cancer, what would you say, what would you draw?" For two- to three-year-olds, she asked, "What do you want to tell people about yourself?" And for the youngest, she just took their handprints. "It's such a human expression, ‘Here's my mark, ‘" said Murray.

She then asked them about their pictures, and wrote down exactly what they said. This gave the artwork a powerful voice. Coupled with Murray's photographs of the children in the book, the three forms of expression leave both a permanent record and lasting impression with the viewer.

As a therapist, Murray doesn't give the kids the impression that the drawing process is right or wrong. Whatever they draw is unconditionally acceptable. "Children play, they draw, and that's the natural language of children. That's why art therapy is so wonderful, "she said.

Henry was a kind, good boy. His father died of a terrible disease, which cost much and left them badly off. His mother was very poor. Although she worked hard, she could only manage both ends meet. He had a little sister about two years old.

"It was such a surprise!" the man said, " I held no hope for it at all. Well, boy, that's what you deserve for your good deed."

The man gave him a dollar as thanks and a praise for his honesty. How to deal with the money? The candy? A new pair of pants?   Or other things he was longing for so much? Wait, next month was mother's birthday…Yes, Henry got the idea and knew what he should do and he would do it secretly.

Identify the core issue.

Whether they are anxious about work, school, or their body image, having them talk, listening to them and understanding their feelings is important. Something that might seem light to you might be a big deal for them.

Show them that you are listening.

Insecure people often struggle to express their emo their emotions, so avoid cutting them off in conversation or talking over them. Instead, listen actively and make eye contact to let them feel comfortable.If you seem distracted, they are likely to shut down.

Praise their work and effort.

The game is inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. In it, players take the role of the Destined One, setting off for adventures to collect six Relics that once belonged to Sun Wukong and challenge the Celestial Court.

Drawing on a rich heritage of nearly 1,000 years of Chinese culture, the game's storyline and characters have proven difficult to understand for foreign players. For instance, a player shared on social media that their lack of familiarity with Journey to the West led to them consistently missing hidden treasures, finally resulting in repeated failures during a boss fight in Chapter 2. Meanwhile, some players feel overwhelmed by names like Erlang Shen and Lingxuzi, which can be difficult to pronounce for those unfamiliar with pinyin.

To bridge these cultural divides, one enthusiast wrote a 200-page outline detailing Sun Wukong's abilities across all 100 chapters of Journey to the West. Many others immersed themselves in the story by checking out TV shows, anime and online forums.

Through this process, western players have not only improved their gaming skills but also developed a deeper appreciation for Sun Wukong and Journey to the West. "Although many people might compare Sun Wukong to Western superheroes, I believe they are different," said Patrick from the US. "Sun Wukong has a carefree and independent nature, unlimited by the need to set a good example for others like Spider-Man, who by contrast follows principles like 'with great power comes great responsibility'."

Journey to the West offers a comprehensive narrative that covers a very dangerous journey, numerous encounters and the exploration of various cultures, making it a rich source for diverse storytelling types and cultural backgrounds. Perhaps these are some of the key reasons why Journey to the West has been translated into over a dozen languages, with more than 60 versions available worldwide.

A team of the Cornish Jackdaw Project set out to determine why jackdaws are so noisy before they depart from their sleeping spot. The team's theory was that the morning calls might be a jackdaw version of   "voting". The researchers suspected that each individual's call might count as an "I'm in!". When a certain amount of "I'm in!"s are called —and so a certain volume of noise is reached -the group might then depart as a unit.

To test this idea, the researchers artificially increased the level of calls during the jackdaws' natural morning calls. Their expectation was that, if jackdaws really are "voting with their voice" to decide when to depart the sleeping site, artificially adding calls would make them leave earlier than they naturally would have done. Subsequent experiments confirmed their expectation. The team therefore showed that jackdaws use their calls as a sort of voting system.

You might wonder why this happens. The researchers suggest that individual jackdaws benefit from the voting system because they are less at risk of being killed and they can get more access to social information — such as where to find food.

So the loud calls of jackdaws in the morning are therefore not the pure chaos it sounds like. If you are ever being driven mad by the sound in the morning, you can find comfort in the fact that the louder they get, the sooner they will leave you in peace.

Dreaming of the new dictionary he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he took courage to keep in step with the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Every autumn, millions of these beautiful insects with fine black and orange wings begin a long and difficult journey. Somehow they manage to travel around 4, 000 kilometres south and find their way to California or Mexico.

A team of scientists led by Professor Eli Shlizerman at the University of Washington has now found the answer. It uses its eyes to measure the position of the sun. These two pieces of information — the time of day and the point where the sun is in the sky-allow the butterfly to determine the way to go. Eventually, it manages to reach the places where it will spend the winter.

Its population has crashed by as much as 90 per cent in the last few years. Sadly, human activity is the main reason why the number of monarch butterflies is falling. In many of the places where the butterfly can be found, people are destroying the natural environment. They cut down trees and use chemicals. that kill the plants that monarch caterpillars (毛虫) eat.

People have been working together to record its migration and make sure that there are enough plants for it to feed on. If this works, there may come a time when the number of monarch butterflies increases once again. The more we know about this lovely creature, the greater the chance it will survive and keep its place in the natural world for a long time to come.

At the University of Chicago's Human Nature and Potentials Lab, research has shown that children over the age of four can perceive and respond to awe-inspiring experiences. This early sense of awe influences their motivation for learning and self-perception. When exposed to awe-inspiring visuals, such as vast natural scenes or natural disasters, children feel a "small self" compared to their feelings after viewing everyday nature imagery, which makes them more motivated to explore things that interest them and to understand things in the world that they hadn't learned much about yet.

While awe is a highly personal experience, evidence suggests that it has significant social effects. In one experiment, participants who were asked to stand staring at tall trees for a minute were more likely to help others than those who looked at a building, suggesting that being in an awe-inspiring environment increases morality and reduces feelings of self-centeredness.

"This is especially critical in the age of social media," said Dr. Keltner. "We are at this cultural moment of self-center, criticism, and entitlement (优越感); awe gets us out of that. It does this by helping us get out of our own heads and realize our place in the larger context, our communities," he explained. "Might awe cause people to become more invested in the greater good, giving more to charity, volunteering to help others, or doing more to reduce their impact on the environment? Our research would suggest that the answer is yes."

Using metaphors is far more than a poetic device of factual statements. A study conducted at Purchase College found that metaphors can frame people's perspectives, thus shaping their reasoning and subsequent actions. For example, describing the effort to stop climate change as a "war" rather than a "race" caused people to feel more urgency about reducing emissions.

Another example is the lightbulb (灯泡) metaphor commonly used to describe new ideas, suggesting that new thoughts appear suddenly like a light switch being turned on. However, this metaphor proves that new ideas come effortlessly and are accessible only to a select few geniuses, such as Isaac Newton, who supposedly developed his theory of gravity from a sudden insight about a falling apple. It may lead people to question their capability to have new ideas, and as a behavioral result, people mayoverlookthe role of hard work and constant learning in bringing about change.

An alternative way to describe ideas is by comparing new thoughts to seeds that fall on fertile ground and — if cared for-will grow and develop over time. Different from the lightbulb metaphor, the seed metaphor shows an understanding that creating new ideas is a laborious process, which requires time and effort. It also suggests that anybody can be the cultivator of ideas as long as they put their mind to it.

The effects of metaphors show how powerful language can be, even though we often don't realize it. Who'd have thought a simple use of a lightbulb metaphor could affect how we understand the concept of innovation? Given the nature of our metaphorical minds, it is worth asking: are our metaphors suitable? We owe it to ourselves and others to use metaphors appropriately. These choices — conscious or not — can be constructive or destructive.
