We know that the job is not easy to imagine now, but we still insist, finally it paid off, we finally got a suitable job interview, and I was excited. We didn't have any work experience. This was our first interview.
When waiting for the interview, we found that many students like us were there, too. When the manager came out, I was so nervous that I could feel my heart beating fast, and I was relieved when he read my name. I was picked up with my little friends, but in fact, we found that most of the students were selected. When we are hesitant to work in the daytime or night, there are a lot of students chose the night shift, because they feel it's cooler at night than during the day. So we decided to take the night shift, too. When I told my mother that I was going to work on the night shift, and my mother was in a bad mood. She said it was hard work on the night shift and asked if I could hold on. I was full of confidence and said there was no problem.
Although it was a little cooler than the daytime, the workshop was quiet and terrible at night. When I thought it was about daybreak, I took a look at the time before I found out it was less than 12 in the middle of the night. Oh, my God, how long is it? What time does it break? After midnight we can go to the dining hall, but in front of the dish we have no appetite, we hurriedly picked a few mouthfuls of rice, or we'll be hungry all night. Although this work looks very easy, which is to give the milk packing, but only a few days later, my fingers began to blister, and it is very difficult to sleep during the day.

Power of Self Talk
Life is like a big swing. dangling between the depths of happiness and sadness. To overcome tough times you have to cheer yourself up. When you are feeling low and confused, this can be done effectively by self-talk.
It can be effectively used for soul searching. When talking to ourselves, we hardly lie as our conscience controls our speech. Self talk is useful because when we speak out our thoughts, it makes a larger effect on our brain. This repetition talks and thoughts pass message to our brain.
Self-talk is a software, which when properly loaded onto our mind directs ourselves for better results and a healthy mind. Actually many times in our life, we find others advising us to do better in studies, sports, life etc. We usually blank our cars out of their suggestions. And when something comes from within you, you always try your best to do it.
If you are a shy person and you want to be the outgoing person like your friend next door, all you need to do is talk to yourself." I am a natural born speaker." "I do like people and speaking comes naturally to me." "I just have to be ready to listen and speak". If you are highly confident to do better, there is no better motivator(动机) than self-talk..

Adults usually do not remember most of the things that are taught by their teachers at school. But this story is one such lesson that I will never forget. Every time I drift off course, I think of this story.
It was a normal Monday morning, and my teacher was teaching us on important things in life and about devoting ourselves to what is important to us. This is how the story went
An old man lived in a certain part of London, and he would wake up every morning and go to the subway. He would get onto the train right to Central London, and then sit at the street corner and beg. He would do this every single day of his life. He sat at the same street corner and begged for almost 20 years.
His house was dirty, and a stench(恶臭) came out of the house and it smelled terrible. The neighbors could not stand the smell any more, so they called for the police officers to clear the place. The officers knocked down the door and cleaned the house. There were small bags of money all over the house that he had collected over the years.
The police counted the money, and they soon realized that the old man was a millionaire (百万富翁). They waited outside his house expecting to share the good news with him. When the old man arrived home that evening, one of the officers told him that there was no need for him to beg any more as he was a rich man now, a millionaire.
But the old man said nothing at all; he went into his house and locked the door. The next morning he woke up as usual, went to the subway, sat at the street corner and continued to beg.
Clearly, this old man had no great plans, dreams or anything significant for his life. We learn nothing from this story other than staying focused on the things we enjoy doing.

18、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。
Many people influenced various aspects of my life, based on their personal characteristics, accomplishments, and values. I have been fortunate to have had numerous teachers and professors who I respect for their patience and intelligence. There are artists that have inspired me by their natural talents and original creativity. I value many political leaders, who have inspired me by their contributions to society, and their ability to change our futures. But of all the people I have known in my life, the person I admire most is my father.
As the youngest girl in my family, I always considered myself to be "Daddy's little girl". While I grew up, it always made me sad to see so many of my friends and neighbors without a father or father-like figure around. This helped me appreciate how my father always takes an interest in his children's lives. In every aspect of my life my father continuously pushes me to excel, so I could accomplish my work outstandingly among my people. Whenever I feel like giving up, or have a question or a concern, I know I can always call on him for advice. From him I have also learned that sometimes you have to put others' needs ahead of your own, but you should make sure you are not taken advantage of by others. His strength seems to be unbreakable during hard times, and he is extremely determined to accomplish anything he sets his mind on, no matter how tiny it is. I highly respect him for how he stands up for what he believes in, and will never back down. He is a very reserved man, but to everybody's surprise, he has a great sense of humor, and always knows how to put a smile on the faces of his wife, his children and his friends.
Living in his love and instruction, I am very proud of my father. He also professes how proud he is of his children, and is still there to support us in whatever we are involved in.
(1)、 What is the best title for the passage?A、How my father loved me B、I am the apple on my father's palm C、My father—the person I admire most D、My father—the one who I respect most(2)、 Which of the following could be used to describe the author's father?A、Energetic and helpful B、Considerate and humorous C、Knowledgeable and sociable D、Determined and open-minded(3)、Which of the following can best explain the underlined word "excel"?A、Do better than others. B、Keep healthy. C、Be cleverer than others. D、Show off around.(4)、 What can we infer about the author?A、She had sympathy for the fatherless. B、She was outstanding in work because her father pushed her hard. C、She appreciated her father because he solved all the problems for her. D、She considered her father humorous and was often made to laugh by him. -
