3、 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Everyone wants to feel more attractive. You can start feeling more attractive by working on your thoughts or changing your looks. Changing the way you think about yourself can help you feel attractive and confident.
Do you find yourself being overly critical of every move you make? Replace critical thoughts with ones that strengthen a positive self-image. When you find yourself in the middle of a negative thought, stop the thought in its tracks.
Focus on your best features. Everyone has good features. If you have pretty eyes, for example, play them up with some tasteful eye makeup. When you're feeling unattractive, remind yourself of how muscular your calves (小腿肚) are or how sparkling your skin looks.
Avoid comparing yourself with others. That's because you focus on the best things about someone else and the worst things about yourself, making you come out at the bottom every time. You'll end up setting unrealistic standards for yourself. However, these comparisons are not reality, so don't let them seep into your mind. Instead, focus on what makes you unique and amazing.
Schedule time for yourself. It's easy to get caught up in everyone else's schedules and take little time to do the things that make you feel attractive. For example try getting a massage, taking a long bath, or going out on a hike. No matter how you choose to spend your me-time, make sure you're doing something that is important to you.
Make yourself smile or laugh. Smiling or laughing, even when it's forced, has been proven to improve your mood. Leave yourself friendly notes reminding you to take a smile or laugh break.
A. Remove negative self-talk.
B. Write down negative self-talk in a journal.
C. Comparisons always leave you feeling down.
D. Over time, you'll start to feel better about yourself by doing this.
E. Getting away from sources of negativity can help boost your self-respect.
F. Focusing on yours can help build confidence and make you feel more attractive.
G. Prioritize me-time and invest some energy in your appearance and mental health.

In recent years the production of blades (叶片) for wind turbines (风力涡轮机) has undergone a revolution, as it were. As turbine output is related to the square of blade length, this has also increased how much power can be produced.
But there's a hitch. Today's longest blades have become too big to be delivered to inland wind farms. They can be taken only by ship to offshore sites, where building costs are far higher.
Logistics specialists have consequently been raising their game. Trucks with "blade-lifter" hydraulics (液压装置) can rotate their load to reduce displacement on turns, a useful trick in hilly places without overhead obstacles. The past decade has also seen the development of highly accurate "swept path analysis" software. Fed with a digital model of a transport corridor, tree branches included, the software reveals — to within a few centimetres — if a blade could get through.
For all that, problems still arise. During the many months it can take to secure transport permits, trees grow and new obstacles are often created. Producing the blades on site has so far proved impractical. In addition to introducing potential failure points, the joints are expensive and heavy. They also reduce wind-harnessing surface area by about 15%. One idea is to 3D-print blades at wind farms. A Silicon Valley firm has $1.3m in funding. If all goes well, the company hopes to produce a 50-metre blade in late 2025. 3D-printed blades of 100 metres could follow by 2028. The boss of the firm estimates on-site printing would cut developers' total cost for blades by a quarter.
The wind power industry spends an astonishing 7% or so of its capital expenditures on moving blades. Even expensive long - shot attempts to find a better way, then, could prove worth the effort.
(1)、What does the underlined word "hitch" in paragraph 2 mean?A、Advantage. B、challenge. C、Improvement. D、Disorder.(2)、How were the wind turbines transported in the past?A、By making digital models of the large blades. B、By applying software to the big trees detection. C、By reducing the load of the trucks to make turns. D、By using trucks with special devices to decrease the movement of turbines.(3)、What is the suggestion about addressing the transportation of turbine blades?A、Printing the blades on-site at wind farms. B、Reducing the length of the turbine blades. C、Increasing the number of transport permits. D、Using lighter materials to produce the blades.(4)、What is the author's attitude towards the efforts to improve the transportation of blades?A、Cautious. B、Ambiguous. C、Supportive. D、Doubtful. -

Your phone has a screen that displays images and videos. The screen uses tiny dots known as pixels (像素) that consist of three primary colors: red, green and blue. By mixing these colors in different ways, your phone can show you everything from beautiful beach scenes to cute puppies.
Now imagine something similar for smells. Scientists are developing digital scent technology that uses a small number of different cartridges (暗盒), each containing a specific scent. Just like how pixels mix the three basic colors to create images, these scent cartridges could mix to create different smells. Just as images on your phone are made of digital codes that represent combinations of pixels, smells produced by a future phone could be created through digital codes. Each smell could have a specific recipe made up of different amounts of the ingredients in the cartridges.
When you receive a digital scent code, your phone could mix tiny amounts of the different scents from the cartridges to create the desired smell. This mix would then be released through a small vent on the phone, allowing you to smell it. With just a few cartridges, your phone could potentially create a huge variety of smells, much like how red, green and blue pixels can create countless colors.
Creating a phone that can produce smells involves several challenges. One is designing a system that can produce thousands of different smells using only a few cartridges. Another is how to control how strong a scent should be and how long a phone should send it out. And phones will also need to sense odors near them and convert those to digital codes so your friends' phones can send smells to you. The cartridges should also be easy to refill, and the chemicals in them should be safe to breathe. These hurdles make it a tricky but exciting area of research.
(1)、What enables a phone screen to present diverse visual contents from paragraph 1?A、Special sensors detecting colors. B、A unique way for color reflection. C、Advanced software for image generation. D、Pixels of three primary colors in combination.(2)、What can we learn about digital scent from paragraph 2?A、It is created by using cartridges. B、It's a fully-developed technology. C、It comes from the same cartridges. D、It is related to images on mobile phones.(3)、What is one of the troubles scientists face when developing digital scent technology?A、Creating new scents that don't exist in nature. B、Combining all primary colors to produce one smell. C、Regulating the strength and duration of scents. D、Finding a way to emit scents that last for a long time.(4)、What is the main idea of the text?A、A comparison between image combination and smell production. B、The development and challenges of digital scent technology. C、The advantages of updating a phone that can display images. D、The history and future of complex phone technology. -

In the last two years, tennis has taken over our closets, our screens and now — our living rooms, furniture from thrown tennis balls.
At least that is the hope of Belgian eco-designer Mathilde Wittock, who fashions furniture from thrown tennis balls. Wittock's chase longues (躺椅) are entirely cushionless — save for the filling of 500 precisely arranged tennis balls. Her one-meter-long benches are similarly few and far between, with some 270 balls being both stylish and structurally substantial.
Around 300 million tennis balls are produced each year — and almost all of them end up in landfills, taking over 400 years to decompose (分解). Wittock estimates the lifecycle of a ball stands at just nine games, depending on the level of tennis being played.
It takes Wittock around three to four weeks to build a chair. Every ball is cut and dyed by hand, with colors picked out especially to fit the client's space. It was through much trial and error that she was able to use the shape of the ball while masking some of its all-too-easily- recognized features. "I needed to find an assembly that changed the iconic appearance of the tennis balls," she said. "It's yellow and has these white lines. How do I deal with them?"
Wittock started to see the design's possibilities of the sporting equipment when she was studying at Central Saint Martins, an art school in London. Today, she receives all her materials via donations from tennis clubs. Collections began small — sometimes with just 10 tossed balls at a time — but quickly grew. Now, Wittock works with the Federation of Wallonia in Brussels, who have offered her their entire stock — around 100,000. How long will it last? "It's enough for a few months," she said. "If things get wild, maybe it will last nine months. Because I have a rhythm of cutting tennis balls. I can get through 1,800 per week."
(1)、Why are the numbers listed in paragraph 2?A、To highlight a waste. B、To promote a product. C、To state the material of furniture. D、To show tennis' popularity.(2)、What function does paragraph 3 act as?A、A background. B、An example. C、A definition. D、A proof.(3)、What does Wittock have to do to handle the thrown tennis balls?A、She cleans them cleverly. B、She asks her friends for help. C、She uses their characteristics. D、She adjusts their colors accordingly.(4)、What is the last paragraph mainly about?A、Wittock's work plans. B、Wittock's stuff sources. C、Wittock's pride in profits. D、Wittock's education experience. -

I first met Thomas on a warm Saturday afternoon at my cousin's wedding. He was a friend of the groom (新郎), having flown a long way for the occasion. As I walked around, helping with the last-minute arrangements, I noticed him standing alone, looking a little lost among the lively crowd. Being part of the host family, I felt it was my duty to introduce myselfand offer him some company. I approached him with a warm smile, hoping to break the ice.
At first, our conversation consisted of polite small talk, but as the evening went on, I sensed a slight tension. Thomas seemed distant, responding to my questions with short answers. Confused and frustrated, I couldn't understand why he was being unfriendly when I was simply trying to be friendly. After a while, I excused myself, feeling disappointed—what I had hoped was just a pleasant interaction.
As the night continued, I couldn't get rid of the feeling that Thomas had taken a dislike to me for reasons I couldn't understand. I shared with my cousin about my feeling, but she just said, "He's probably just tired." Still, the unease (不安) stayed in my mind. As hosts, wewanted every guest to feel welcomed and appreciated, so I decided to try again. Later, I approached him by the dessert table, offering him a piece of cake with a smile, hoping to lighten the mood.
This time, Thomas paused, his expression changing. "Listen," he said, sighing heavily, "I appreciate your efforts, but I'm really not in the best mood to socialize." He hesitated, and then added, "I'm here for my friend, but I recently lost someone close. It's just hard to be here celebrating." Suddenly, it all made sense, and I realized that my earlier guesses were completely wrong.

Healthy ways to handle life's stressors (压力源)
Stressful experiences are normal, with the stress response serving as a survival mechanism. Some stress is positive, like giving a speech in front of a crowd. Fortunately, here are some approaches to helping you reduce the negative effects of stress.
Change your response to stress. Your thoughts about what's causing the stress can change how you respond. You might not always avoid stress, but you can try to reduce your stress. Think about whether you can change things by letting go of some tasks, lowering your expectations, or asking for help.
When life feels too busy, people often stop doing fun activities first. However, skipping out on pleasure can make things worse. Even when you're short on time, find moments for yourself, like reading a book, singing your favorite songs, or watching a funny show. Laughter and humor can help improve both mental and physical health.
Build social support. Having strong social support helps you handle stress better. Connect with friends or family who can listen or offer practical help, like cooking a meal or babysitting. Just ensure your relationships are balanced; if you always need help but never give it, it can add to your stress as well.
Protect your sleep. Daytime stress can disrupt sleep at night, which can harm your mood and thinking. To sleep better, avoid caffeine and alcohol in the evening. Limit screen time, as blue light can keep you awake. Stick to a regular routine and relax before bed.
A. Enjoy yourself first.
B. Keep your pleasurable activities.
C. Giving support can boost your mood too.
D. He or she can help you identify situations.
E. Exercise during the day to improve sleep quality.
F. Your stress level depends on the situation and your reaction.
G. But a negative stressor can harm our physical and mental health.

Eating a plant-based diet is good for your health, but not if those plant foods are heavily- processed, a new study has found.
The study reveals that while a plant-based diet is generally healthy, the type of plant foods consumed is significant. The research involved 118,000 adults who were tracked for nearly ten years as part of the UK Biobank and it has shown that heavily-processed plant foods - like sugary snacks and fruit juices - can increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. In contrast, minimally processed plant foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, provide protective benefits against cardiovascular (心血管的) diseases.
The study published in Lancet Regional Health-Europe highlights that not all plants foods are equally good. When heavily processed, they lose important nutrients and are often added with unhealthy ingredients like sugar and salt. This processing can cause the body to absorb these foods quickly, which may lead to increased hunger. This process also changes the food's natural structure, making it less satisfying and potentially raising blood sugar levels.
Lead researcher Fernanda Rauber highlights that the artificial flavors in heavily-processed foods may lead people to prefer these over natural flavors found in whole foods, making healthier choices more challenging. She advises focusing on minimally processed foods and checking ingredient lists for recognizable items. Foods with long lists of additives (添加剂) are often heavily-processed and should be avoided.
The study matches previous findings associating heavily-processed foods with various health issues, including obesity and heart disease. While the research indicates a connection between heavily-processed plant foods and health risks, it does not establish a direct cause-and-effect relationship. Overall, prioritizing whole, minimally processed plant foods are essential for maintaining good health.
(1)、According to the study, what type of foods can increase the risk of heart attacks?A、Whole grains. B、Sugary snacks. C、Seasonal vegetables. D、Newly-picked oranges.(2)、 What does the study show about heavily-processed plant foods?A、They help improve your digestion system. B、They can lead to some health problems. C、They have fewer additives to add to taste. D、They might reduce blood sugar levels.(3)、 What's the author's purpose in writing the text?A、To promote minimally processed plant foods. B、To argue that processed foods are unhealthy. C、To discourage people from eating plant foods. D、To reveal that plants-based foods are crucial.(4)、Where can the text be found?A、In a history book. B、In a novel. C、In a science magazine. D、In a recipe. -

Think back to the last time you wrote a quick note or made a grocery list. Chances are that it wasn't with pen and paper. Over the past decade, keyboards and screens have quietly taken the place of handwriting in our daily routines, from classrooms to office meetings. Some schools around the world have even stopped teaching handwriting altogether. Yet, research shows that putting pen to paper offers cognitive benefits that digital tools can't replicate (复制).
"Statistically most studies on the relationship between handwriting and memory show that people are better at remembering things that they have written down, manually than on a computer," says Naomi Susan Baron, former professor of linguistics at American University.
The perks of writing by hand can partly be attributed to the engagement of multiple senses in the writing process. "Holding a pen with our fingers, pressing it on a surface, and moving our hands to create letters and words is a complex cognitive-motor skill that requires a lot of our attention," says Mellissa Prunty at Brunel University London who has researched the relationship between handwriting and learning.
Adults also benefit from the labor-intensive nature of handwriting. A study involving 42 adults learning Arabic found that participants who learned letters by writing them down by hand were quicker to recognize them, had an easier time naming them, and were better at sounding the newly learned letters out compared with people who were asked to learn the new characters by typing or by just looking at them.
Through surveys with 205 young adults, Baron found that many students report more focus, steadier concentration, and better memory when producing a text by holding a writing instrument rather than pressing keys on a keyboard, suggesting that our sense of touch plays a vital role in the way we absorb information.
(1)、What is Baron's opinion about handwriting?A、It helps to memorize things. B、It is easier and more efficient. C、It helps improve artistic skills. D、It should give way to typing.(2)、 What does the underlined word "perks" in paragraph 3 mean?A、Challenges. B、Changes. C、Shortcomings. D、Advantages.(3)、 What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?A、Handwriting is as important as digital tools in learning. B、Typing enhances learning more than handwriting. C、Handwriting contributes more to cognitive ability. D、Adults struggle more with handwriting when learning.(4)、What does the text mainly talk about?A、How typing affects our studying skills. B、Why handwriting still matters in the digital age. C、The decline of handwriting in modern education. D、The comparison of multiple learning strategies. -

His basketball league was celebrating. Today's championship game marked its 50th anniversary (周年) since the league's first championship.
George looked over the brochure for the anniversary. It listed the winners of each championship game and the top scorers. He stopped suddenly when he read the name of the top scorer from a game 30 years before. He quickly went through the rest of the list. "Look!" he said to his teammate David, showing him the brochure. "You see who has the all-time record? My dad! He never told me that."
"24 points," David said. "That's awesome!"
George's best record was 19 points. He was the Badgers' top scorer. "It seems that my dad never showed off something like that," George said.
When his parents arrived, George brought the brochure over to them. His dad laughed. "I didn't miss a shot in that game. But look at the score. I would have traded every shot for a win," he said with regret. George hadn't noticed that his dad's team had lost the game just by one point. "That was a great group of teammates," his dad added. "You have great teammates in the Badgers, too."
As George warmed up, he was still digesting his father's words. "This will be a struggle every second," the coach emphasized before they got on court to play. "I want to see tough defense, sharp passing, and, above all, smart play as a team."
George was confident he could lead the Badgers to victory, just as he did in their previous games against the Lions. And he played really hard. As the game neared its end, George had already scored 23 points. Another basket would break his father's scoring record.
However, his team was now one point behind the Lions. As the final seconds ticked away, George's heart pounded with the rhythm of the game. Gripping (紧握) the ball, he scanned the court for an opening. Then, seeing David unguarded, a realization hit him. Echoing through his mind were his father's teachings about teamwork. "It's not just about scoring," George whispered to himself. With determination, he made the crucial decision to pass the ball to David.

Tips for Positive Thinking When Depressed
If you're wondering how to become more positive when depressed, you may need some actionable tips to get started.
Keep a positive journal. Positive thoughts can be few and far between when you have depression. Even if it's something as small as seeing a beautiful flower or receiving a supportive text from a friend, keep a record of your better moments.
Next time you feel hopeless in the face of difficulties, imagine the most positive outcome. For example, you might dislike having depression, but imagine that one day you could use your story to help others — to start a support group or write a book.
Ask yourself if your negative beliefs are really true. Next time you observe a negative thought entering your mind, ask yourself: "Is there basis for this thought?" For example, has anyone ever told you that you were a terrible friend apart from yourself? What about all the times you've been supportive or helpful to the people in your life? Hold your negative thoughts up for inspection and you'll soon see which are worth your attention.
During depression, however, it often feels easier to hide under your covers and let the negative thoughts takeover than try to change your patterns. Try to challenge yourself during your stronger moments to try to find something to feel positive about.
