I was eating bhindi roti, my favorite Indian snack, which my mom had packed for me. But feeling embarrassed for having a "smelly" lunch and wanting to fit in, I quietly shut my lunchbox. That day, I went hungry.

Most days after that, lunchtime at school felt like a battle. For this article, I talked with kids who could relate. But they also surprised me: They dealt with "the lunchbox moment" differently than I did. For example, Satya Singh, 6, who takes her mom's Indian cooking to lunch most days, told me that one day a classmate said that her aloo, or potatoes, looked like poop. Another time, someone said that the dal, or lentils, looked like "throw up". The next day, Satya brought enough dal to share with her entire class — and they loved it. From then on, she says, "My teacher at school made a rule: Don't yuck someone's yum."

Looking back, I wish I'd had the wisdom of Satya and offered my friend a bite of my lunch, or just told her it was delicious — especially because now, as an adult, I see that Indian food is universally loved by my friends. Some even try to cook Indian lentils or chickpeas at home! And when I'm hungry, guess what? I miss my mom's bhindi roti and her care in making it for me. Food is an expression of culture, tradition, family and love. And that's something to celebrate, not hide.

"Can you at least buy me some candy? You promised earlier," the boy complained. "I don't have time right now. Please hurry inside," the mother answered.

Then the mother took the son's hand and rushed into the gym. Nancy witnessed this all and was reminded of her own similar busy life in the past. She was once also a young busy woman. Her personal and work-related matters always came first in her life. She failed to spare enough time for her son and attach enough importance to his wishes. When she realized her problems, it was too late. Her son lost his life in an accident, leaving her with deep sadness and regret. To make matters worse, her company went bankrupt (破产) soon after.

Reflecting on her past life, Nancy had a thought. Though she was not wealthy, she wanted to do something nice for the boy: buy him a bar of chocolate.

In the past few years, I have found that mental illness has been a term largely avoided in conversation, and this has a bad impact on those depression, anxiety and other mental diseases. What's worse, the topic of mental illness when the news draws our attention to it, but then the conversation quiets until the next tragedy (悲剧) happens.

It's time for the conversation to continue. Instead of waiting for the next tragedy, we need to be open about mental health and about the struggles that come with mental illness and treatment. We need to develop an environment where people feel comfortable to seek the help they need instead of concealing (掩盖) it.

It took a long time, but I am now open about my anxiety and depression. I am open about my taking medicine to treat my mental illness. I am open about the struggle of finding the that works. I encourage everyone to do the same. Be and open with your conversations about mental health. The more comfortable people are with these conversations, the easier it will be for the conversation to continue. A continued conversation will more ideas on treatment and more ideas on how to those who need it.

We have the ability to help those we love and break the shame around mental illness. We should change the idea that it's something that needs to be cured people of. Mental illness can actually affect anyone, impacting one every four people.

So,, let's keep the conversation about mental health and mental illness open. Be sure to check up on your friends, and be open about the importance of mental health. If you're uncomfortable, share your story, which may let others know they are not. Just as Albus Dumbledo re said, "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers the light."

I was a boy of nine in 1960. At school, I  (intent) did my lessons. At the expense of my studying time, I used to mow the lawn for Mrs. Long,  occupation was an architect. She was one of the (specialist) in the field of architecture. Her family was comprised  four people. The motivation of the mission was to make the lawn tidy and elegant. Sometimes, the work took  about two hours a day. She paid me little for the job, but that she promised to give me a Christmas present filled me with hope.

I spent much time wondering what it would be. Many boys had baseball gloves or ice skates bought for them and I was eager to have any of these. "As I can imagine, it will hardly be baseball gloves," I reasoned with myself.   "She doesn't know much about baseball." So according to my rough  (analyze), I was convinced that she might give me ice skates.

As Christmas approached, it was with difficulty that I stopped myself from reporting to Mrs. Long and demanding my present. On December 20, I told my parents, "At 9 o'clock on December 22, I will be appearing at the door of Mrs. Long's house." Seize the present moment, and do all you can today to become a more responsible person. Your responsible acts today will lead to a responsible future.

Being responsible involves humility (谦逊). Responsibility means accepting the consequences of your actions, even if it is the expense of your ego (自我). We all make mistakes.  By accepting responsibility, we can improve our integrity. Nothing says more of our integrity than the way we handle responsibility.

Accept responsibility, learn from your mistakes, and move on with your life.  Don't ever feel it is too late to accept responsibility for wrong actions in the past. Do what is right, and give your soul the peace it deserves.
