As Alexandria Country Day School's sixth-graders created small 3D-printed villages to deal with homelessness, they learned lessons beyond technology(科技).
The project which was inspired by life-size 3D-printed homes built by a Texas-based technology company, aimed to make housing accessible for everyone. Using inexpensive materials the students built strong homes in just a few days.
11-year-old Salwa Seman and Zoe Mandel, found creating settings challenging but worthwhile. "If the temperature of the printer is too hot or cold, or if the printed walls are tooth in, the constructions might fail," said Salwa Seman. "You learn from your mistakes and make adaptations," said Zoe Mandel.
The tech-focused project quickly developed into "an exercise in understanding, creation, and partnership to bring about lasting change," said science teacher Alison McDonald. "When most people think of helping the homeless, they think of food and clothing," said Juliet Galicia, 11. While necessary, those are solutions only for the moment. Even housing alone is not a full answer.
"We wanted to include other things that would make it feel more like a real community," said Luke Wazorko, 11. A community garden, a place to raise chickens, a stadium for shared events, bus stops for access to jobs, and service for Wi-Fi and cellphones to help with job searches were important features offered to formerly unhoused residents.
"They get it!" said Amber Fogarty, president of a nonprofit organization helping homelessness in Austin. "The biggest reason for long-term homelessness is a serious lack in family relationships," she said. "Housing alone will never solve homelessness, but community will People need a place where they are known, cared and loved."

And much physical communication takes place with the ends of elephants' noses—they use these to comfort and reassure each other, to greet friends, and to recognize the efforts of a hard-working mother or the birth of new calves.
When a member of the herd is close to death, the whole herd will stop moving and stay resting in one small area for a time. I was jealous(妒忌的) of her as I was the most popular girl in the school and I didn't want her to be liked by everyone, so I spread rumors(谣言) about her but she never looked at me with anger.
I bullied Anna mentally most of the time and I never realized that I was that rude. She would cry bitterly every time I spoke ill of her parents. Anna was being liked by more and more people because of her good attitude. I was really angry with her.
One day, I saw that there was a poster for our Prom(正式舞会). I wanted to become the Prom Queen this time. When the Prom Princesses were announced, Anna was one of them. My heart was burning with jealousy as I had the fear that she might be chosen for Prom Queen.
I saw Anna buying a dress for her Prom from the same mall I was buying mine. We chose the same dress but she was looking more brilliant than I was with her beautiful long brown hair. When she was going back home, I followed her and went into her house. Her house was very small and I didn't see any of her family members there. I tore her dress in front of her. Her beautiful eyes were filled with tears but I didn't feel sorry for her.
