I went to compete in the Olympic Games in 1992. My practice sessions felt great leading up to the competition. Finally, the day arrived.

Eight students from No.2 Secondary School Attached to East China Normal University started a virtual company selling different seeds and seed products. When I was 38 years old, tired of hiding and so lonely, I met someone who convinced me to stop hiding my limb difference. For the first time in my life, I allowed someone to really hold my limb, look at it, take pictures of it, touch it, love it — love me. From that point on, I saw my limb difference as something unique and beautiful about me, something that should be shown, not hidden.

Unhiding my hand made everything in my life better. It was a transformational experience, and through that process, I learned to love myself. This ability to love myself changed how I lived my entire life, and it made me happier.
