If you have the chance to go back to ancient China and ask  educated man what his biggest dream was, he would tell you that he wants to become a zhuang yuan, a title  (give) to the scholar  came first in the highest imperial examination.

In ancient China, it was not that  (ease) to be an official. You have to take exams first. The exams are very difficult and have many  (procedure). The outcome has to be confirmed by the Emperor  (he). The number one scholar with the best score in the imperial exam is called zhuang yuan. Once you  (select) as zhuang yuan you will be appreciated by the Emperor and appear in a parade downtown  a red robe and a tall, strong horse. Zhuang yuan is referred to the elite scholars. Now the imperial competitive examination  (cancel) for many years.

However, people still like to call  (good) person in their field a zhuang yuan. An old saying goes that there are 360 trades and every trade has his master, or zhuang yuan.

Last year while I was in Madrid, Spain, my back hurt. So I went to the local hospital for an examination.

This is the season for holiday travel! As one of the busiest times of the year approaches, many of us are preparing for a vacation with our families and friends.  Not to mention, there's often lots of indulging (放纵) between now and New Year's and the last thing any of us wants is to pack on extra weight. 

⒈Walk everywhere.

Instead of taking buses, try to walk whenever possible. This is one of my favorite things to do when traveling, even if I'm going somewhere familiar.  And you're fitting in extra exercise as a bonus. To give yourself an extra boost (促进), always take the stairs instead of the elevator. And don't get on those moving sidewalks in the airport!

⒉Find a local hike.

For bonus points:  Do a bit of research to find a scenic spot for the whole family to enjoy. Not only will you boost your bum, but a change of scenery is also a great way to bond with your loved ones and experience something new.

Scientists have done a lot of research on sleep. They've shown that sleeplessness can lead to both weight gain and poor performance in school. Might it also affect your moods (情绪) or your behavior? A team of scientists based in Shanghai, China decided to investigate.

To do that, they took advantage of data (数据) from what's known as the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. Begun in 2015, this study followed over 10,000 U.S. kids into adulthood. All were 9 to 10 years old when they started taking part. ABCD researchers have been collecting records from parents on how much their kids sleep on a regular basis. The scientists also have been surveying whether a kid might have a habit of getting into fights or breaking rules. They even note whether students have difficulty focusing their attention.

Wei Cheng, a mathematician from China, teamed up with other researchers, making a detailed study of the ABCD data. Cheng's group found out that kids who on average slept less than 7 hours a night were more likely to have behavior problems than kids who slept more. Kids who missed out on sleep also had more mood problems, including depression. Feeling sad or blue for longer than a week or two can be a sign of depression. Poor sleepers were also more likely to have stomach problems and headaches.

According to Kyla Wahlstrom, a professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, at night, your brain sorts information to link related facts but it takes the brain longer to organize negative (消极的) moods than positive ones. If you don't get enough sleep, your brain might not have time to finish tidying up. If the brain runs out of time, you're left with negative moods. That may explain why Cheng's group found out not getting enough sleep was connected with mood problems, says Wahlstrom.

Bill Gates was born in 1955. He grew up in Seattle, Washington. When he was young, he was good at science and maths. And he wanted to be a scientist.

In 1999, Bill wrote a book. In the book, he told people how computer technology could solve business problems in new ways. It was one of the best-sellers on The New York Times' list. Bill Gates has many hobbies. He enjoyed reading very much. He also enjoys playing golf and bridge.

Whenever I tell people that I teach English at the Berlin Zoo, I almost always get a questioning look. Behind it, the person is trying to figure out who exactly I teach...the animals?

Since June 2017, right before the ( arrive) of the two new pandas, Meng Meng and Jiao Qing, I have been helping the panda keepers at the zoo to feel more comfortable and (confidence) speaking English. And who do they speak English ?

Not the pandas, even though language used for the medical training instructions is actually English. They talk to the flood of international tourists ,.( visit) Chinese zookeepers who often come to check on the pandas, which are on loan from China. They also need to be ready to give(interview) in English with international journalists. This is they need an English trainer.

So, what are they learning?(basic), how to describe a panda's life. It's been an honor to watch the panda programme develop to see the pandas settle into their new home. As a little girl, I (wish) to be a zookeeper when I grew up. Now, I'm living out that dream indirectly by helping the panda keepers do their job in English.

I used to think my life was perfect. My mom had her dream job and a beautiful office, and I had my own room with a computer and a garden to 1 . But one Sunday, everything changed. A hurricane 2 our neighborhood while we were visiting my grandparents in Raleigh. Our kitchen was damaged, and our clean and comfortable home was in ruins.
