Awake? Here Is How to Return to Sleep

It is usual for people to wake up a few times during the night. Older people often get up to go to the bathroom. Waking at night usually is not a problem. 

But what about some other people? If it happens a few times a week, there may be a troublesome reason.. Such sleep difficulties are called insomnia(失眠). You may wake up, look at the clock and worry about your work. There may be stressful things on your mind. These feelings may activate a stress hormone in your body. If you worry about not sleeping, it may make it harder to fall asleep. 

What to do. 

lf you are awake 25 minutes or more，. Gentle stretches or breathing exercises might help. Meditation (冥想 ) also may work. You may sit on a couch and read a book or magazine in dim light. Do not read on a smartphone or a table t in rayless place. 

Try to go back to sleep.

 Coffee can stay in your digestive system well into the evening. 

Napping lowers your drive to fall asleep in the evening. Avoid napping late in the day. Nap no later than early afternoon.. 

Try to keep to a routine schedule for sleep. There is a problem when you go to bed and wake up at different times. Studies have shown that irregular bedtimes may lead to insomnia. —, called circadian rhythms(昼夜节律). They work on 24-hour cycles. 

If you get up during the night to go to the bathroom, limit how much water or liquids you drink a few hours before bedtime. 

For night owls like Chen Danhong, 28 , who works for a technology company in Beijing, the day really just begins after about 8 pm, a psychological hint that she can relax. "When I get home, I'm feeling worn out and tired, but that suddenly turns to excitement and I go on the Internet, read novels or watch movies. I'll be playing video games and continually saying to myself, "OK, this is the last one' before l eventually realize that it's 2 o'clock, " says Chen. 

Common symptoms(症状 ) include falling asleep later than 2 am，with the average time taken to fall asleep being more than one hour. Young people in cities are most vulnerable to such symptoms, according to the 2020 Chinese National Healthy Sleep White Paper. Common causes are loneliness, overtime sequelae (后遗症), excessive stress and emotional disorders. On March 21, World Sleep Day, a newspaper, Nanguo Morning News, conducted a survey that attracted 2, 000 interviewees. 

According to the survey, the reasons for going to bed late vary widely, with overtime work or taking care of a baby accounting for just five percent of the interviewees' answers on this question. Sixty-four percent said they sleep late because they watch dramas, various shows, read books or play with their mobile phones. Fourteen percent said they do not want to go to bed too early even if they have nothing to do. 

Many interviewees said they have had experience of the dangers of going to be late. Twenty-three percent said they have no serious physiological problems, but they can feel weak, are easily fatigued and have a poor complexion. Twenty-one percent said they are forgetful and find it hard to concentrate on work. More worrying is that an unwillingness to sleep can lead to a vicious circle(恶性循环), and15 percent of the respondents said they cannot fall asleep even if they want to. 

We will soon enter the Year of the Dragon. Or should that be the Year of the Loong? That is a question that has aroused heated debate. 

Influenced by Greek mythology(神话) , the dragon is often the keeper of treasure, so the dragon is often a symbol of greed and destruction. In addition to the image of "Saint George slaying the dragon" in the medieval manuscripts of Europe, there is also the Great Red Dragon in the Christian Bible's Book of Revelation, which refers to Satan and the end times. For Europeans, dragon is usually a monster keeping distances away from people, a symbol of darkness. With four legs and two huge black wings, they can spit fire or even poison gas out of their mouth, with great destructive power. Such symbolic resonance(共鸣)can be seen in the enduring appeal of dragons in Western popular culture today where they are important parts of fantasy literature, films, video games, and TV shows, often representing a mix of awe-inspiring and fearsome qualities that put them at the heart of struggles between good and evil. 

Contrary to the evil image of European dragons, Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize different meanings. The loong has been a central symbol in Chinese culture for thousands of years, and its origins can be traced back to early Chinese civilization through mythology, folklore and religious beliefs. They even had jobs, as in Chinese legends dragons were appointed head of the four seas where they must keep order, as well as the job of bringing rain to the earth. Since loong were believed to have control over natural phenomena such as rain, storms and water, and were associated with the life-giving properties of water and the fertility of the land, loong became symbols of strength and good fortune, and they became associated with balance, harmony and the natural order of the universe. 

The differences in perception of the mythical creatures in China and the West are rooted in their different cultural values. Thus the answer to the question at the beginning is clear: Whether or not to use loong instead of dragon is not important. What is important is that as we enter a new lunar year people globally appreciate the cultural values embodied in such Chinese symbols as loong. 

A group of planners, scientists and engineers in charge of China's Chang'e 5 robotic lunarmission have received the highest team award from the International Academy of Astronautics. Atthe academy's annual conference on Sunday in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the Chinese team wasawarded the 2023 Laurels for Team Achievement Award. 

Hu Hao, chief designer of the Chang'e 5 mission and a senior planner at the China National SpaceAdministration, said at the ceremony that he hopes more scientists and engineers from the internationalspace community could take part in China's lunar exploration projects. He also added that the samplesretrieved(回收) by the Chang'e 5 probe will soon be open to foreign researchers. 

One of the world's most notable space activities in 2020, the Chang'e 5 robotic mission waslaunched in November 2020. It was China's first lunar sample-returning mission and one of its mostsophisticated and challenging space attempts. The landmark mission returned 1, 731 grams of rocks andsoil back to Earth on Dec 17, 2020, presenting the first lunar substances to humans since the Apolloera. 

On the certificate awarded to the Chinese team, the academy wrote that during the 23-day mission, the Chang'e-5 team successfully completed the complicated mission which included a rocket launch, lunar-Earth transfer, lunar sampling, lunar surface takeoff, rendezvous and docking, sample transfer, skip re-entry and many other processes, and obtained two types of lunar samples. It noted the Chineseteam has made outstanding contributions to mankind's lunar and deep-space exploration.
