Pappula, 13, said she discovered that a classmate had experienced cyberbullying（网络霸凌）, which was painful for her to learn about. "Even though I didn't experience it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy," Pappula said.

Then she developed a program that recognizes when digital and text-based messages include bullying language. The program takes a message, and then recognizes signs of bullying and gives a rating to the cyberbullying, the teen said. If the rating is high, she said, "the program can be used to carry out things like removing that message or reporting it."

Pappula first designed and tested the program for Discord, a popular community-based messaging platform (平台), and said she plans to develop it for even bigger platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

In addition to this program, the NBPC awarded Pappula for a three-minute animated video about Unity Day, which she created and shared on YouTube last October. Unity Day, according to the video, was started by the NBPC in 2011 to raise bullying awareness among school-age children. Schools encourage their students to wear orange on Unity Day, as it is "a color that is connected with safety," the website reads.

Pappula visited different websites to develop her animation skills several years ago. She spent more than a month creating her 2-D animated video using an animation software called Krita. The effort paid off, as nearly 6,000 people have already viewed the "Unity Day" video on YouTube. Along with being posted to the NBPC webpage, her animation was also shared by Cartoon Network. Moving forward, Pappula hopes to continue to work with the NBPC and to use her skills to lift those around her.

Max and Lily were brother and sister. They got along very well. But lately, their relationship was more like a battlefield. On Christmas Eve, there would be a talent show at their school. They signed up for the performance as a team. However, Lily wanted to sing her favorite pop song while Max preferred a rock band performance, in which he would show his guitar skills. Arguments flew like arrows, and their previously strong relationship was almost broken.

One evening, during separate practice, disaster struck. Lily accidentally knocked over Max's cherished guitar gifted by their late grandfather. The guitar dropped onto the floor and one of its strings (弦) broke. Max's face was red with anger. "You ruined it!" he shouted before storming out, leaving Lily trembling with guilt. The accident deepened their rift (裂痕), and for days, they avoided each other. With the show just a week away, their act remained disorganized and their performance was still a mess.

Their parents noticed the cold war between the brother and sister, and decided to step in. One night, their mother sat them down and shared stories about their grandfather — a musician who had always valued harmony and unity. She reminded them of the importance of working together and supporting each other. Her words struck a chord (和弦), and for the first time in days, Lily and Max exchanged uneasy looks.

Based on the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West, the opera production, The Monkey King, will have its world premiere (首映) at the San Francisco Opera House November 14, 2025.

The opera, (last) about two and a half hours, will be performed in both Chinese and English. It combines (difference) elements, such as dance, Peking Opera, and other Chinese art forms, telling the story of how a monkey born from stone becomes the king of the monkey tribe (群) and challenges the Dragon Palace.

The Monkey King is a heroic-themed opera created by composer Huang Ruo, was born in China and now lives in New York. When (ask) why he decided to create this opera, Huang explained that during a Halloween celebration, he saw his child dressed as a Western superhero. What he saw (make) him think about the richness of Western supermen in the United States, while Asia lacked similar (hero) for children. This (deep) inspired him to create The Monkey King.

The (create) of the opera not only marks an impressive appearance of Chinese culture on the international stage but also builds a new bridge for cultural exchange between China and the world.

Just a week earlier, he had1 through snow and ice to climb Mount Vinson, Antarctica's highest peak. This2 marked the completion of his latest big goal: the Explorers Grand Slam (探险者大满贯). In the heat of the moment, it's easy to type something rude or negative and hit "post".. And you'll often end up regretting it later. To prevent such regret, stop and think carefully before posting or sending something. Rewrite what you've written and make sure it's truthful, respectful and fair.

To keep yourself safe, don't post personal information (such as your full name, where you live, where you go to school, where you work, etc.).Respect others and don't post their personal information without permission (允许), as well.

Don't send unsuitable content to others

. If you wouldn't feel comfortable showing something to someone in person, don't send it online. Unsuitable content can harm relationships, damage reputations (名誉) and even lead to legal issues. Once shared, such content can spread quickly and be difficult to control.

Studying bat migration is particularly challenging due to their habits of being active at night and small size. Edward Hurme, a biologist in Germany, explains that bats are fast and move at night, making it difficult to track their movements once they leave a particular area. Traditional GPS, which has been useful for tracking bird migrations, is too large for bats. As Hurme mentions, finding equipment that can send information from a distance and is small enough for a bat is extremely difficult.

To overcome these challenges, Hurme and his team developed a novel approach. They designed lightweight tracking equipment that could be fixed to the backs of bats, similar to tiny backpacks. The equipment connected to a wireless network to send information, much like a cellphone. This creative method allowed the researchers to track the bats' movements in detail.

By tracking over 70 bats, they uncovered a fascinating strategy (策略): many bats arrange their migration time to match the arrival of approaching storms. As Hurme explains, storms produce strong winds that blow in the right direction for migration, and bats take advantage of these winds to save energy on their long journeys.

More fully understanding the bats' journeys could help their conservation. Wind turbines (发电机) operated by energy companies, for example, can kill a lot of bats. By informing the detailed migration information in advance, researchers hope energy companies will take measures to minimize harm to these animals.

This small-scale study invited 63 young adults, each of whom selected two favorite songs: one they had loved for a long time and another they would take with them to a desert island. Participants (参与者) were also asked to choose one song from a set of songs that researchers believed could relax people but were unfamiliar to them. During the experiment, Participants were required to listen to music for 7 minutes while looking at a monitoring screen, while another group had a quiet rest. The results showed that compared to those who listened to unfamiliar comforting songs or did not listen to any songs, people who listened to their favorite songs reported less pain.

In addition to its effects on pain relief, sad music also has positive influences on the mind. Studies have shown that sad songs can bring emotional resonance (共鸣), providing a sense of psychological (心理的) comfort. Sad music often touches upon deep emotions within people, causing strong resonance during listening. This resonance not only helps reduce emotional pressure but also provides psychological support and comfort. This psychological effect may be related to the need for people to seek emotional support through music when facing difficulties and challenges in life. Through music, people can escape the difficulties of real life to a certain degree and find inner peace.

Despite the many positive effects of sad music, depending too much on it may bring some risks. For example, some people may feel empty or uncomfortable after listening to music. This feeling may be caused by their over-dependence on music. To avoid this situation, it is recommended that people keep a balance when using music for emotional management and seek other healthy ways to deal with stress and challenges in life.

At just 19 years old, Jessica and her classmates in a college came up with a unique idea: a soccer ball that could produce electricity. The idea came to Jessica during a family trip to Nigeria, where she saw people struggling without dependable electricity. The Soccer Ball looks like any other soccer ball, but it has a special feature. As you play with it, the ball captures (获取) the energy from being kicked and rolled. After a game, this energy can power small equipment like LED lights. For many families without regular electricity, this invention can make a big difference.

Though it gained wide support, the product faced challenges. Many balls broke shortly after being used, failing to meet the promised three-year lifespan. Doubt and negative comments followed. The company that Jessica founded, Uncharted Play, admitted mistakes but promised improvements.

Despite these problems, Jessica has continued to work on energy solutions. A recent invention is a jump rope that produces electricity. Every time the rope turns, it produces and stores energy. This jump rope is not only useful for producing electricity but also encourages physical activity. In schools in developing countries, students can now exercise while also helping to charge equipment.

Jessica's goal is to provide clean, renewable energy to people around the world, especially in places where electricity is in short supply. Jessica is proof that even fun activities like playing soccer or jumping rope have the possibility to solve serious problems.
